Coco Cay Expansion

It's been far more than a month.  I had the Beach Club reserved on our August 2021 oasis cruise for a reasonable 65 pp.  RCI cancelled our cruise and started the Oasis back the following week in September.  In the meantime, the cheapest I have seen the Club for our sailing next month is 150.00.

Ah, I meant the  most recent doubling, cabanas from 1699 to 3499, and beach club from 120 to 235 .

Free?  doubtful.  Why should they  offer it for free.  Have you seen the prices of the beach club and over the water cabanas?   In some instances, the cabana for the day is more than the price of a cruise.  For my  upcoming 8 night Mariner cruise the Beach Club is $233.99 per person and a floating cabana is $3,499.

RCCL has already announced that it will be an adult area.  So obviously it will not be a designated suite beach.

So if you stay on the island for 7 hours in your floating cabana, that runs you $500 per hour.

That sounds pretty fair…🙄🤯

Minor children of Pinnacles are now classified as Pinnacle.  There was a recent rent post on another social media page regarding  a 6 month old who is Pinnacle, because his (young)  father is Pinnacle.   Prior to this change there was another post about  a teenager who actually sailed the required 700 nights and was awarded Pinnacle status.  I think  she was about 16.  So when the 16 year old the 6 month old each marry  and have  children, their spouse and children  will be Pinnacle as well.  A new generation of YOUNG pinnacle cruisers.

Yes - in the old days when  baby boomers were still working it took years of cruising to reach Pinnacle  But as many retire early and maybe enjoy life in Florida, jumping on a ship is easy.  Now,  6 points per night for a single in a JS and the numbers  add up fast.   Fairly reliable internet  makes working from a ship  a reality.  Throw in a few complementary casino cruises and there can be relatively  little cash outlay to RCCL.    Take a look at new Pinnacles.  Younger and younger.

It's all a friggin joke.  I have 3 upcoming cruises that stop at Coco Cay.

June 22 on Oasis.  The Beach Club is sold out at 249 based on a price of 249.  UBP is 78 based on a 20% discount off of 98.

Nov 22 on Freedom.  Beach Club is 161 based on a price of 179 with 10% discount.  UBP is 84 based on a price of 105 with 20% discount.

Apr 23 on Anthem.  Beach Club is 249 based on a price of 249 with no discount.  UBP is 72 based on a price of 90 with a 20% discount.

There is no constant except for the discount percentages.  The UBP on the 3 day sailing is of course higher, but the price is cheaper on the 7 day next April versus the 7 day next month.  It is all a joke and with these prices, they can put it where the sun don't shine.  I had the Club at 65 and the UBP at 57, reasonable prices.  These overpriced options will not see an extra dime from me.

Newer ships always seem to cost more for the beverage package and Cocoa Cay, not sure why.  I will say Princess beverage packages are a lot cheaper, but they have a 15 drink limit per day so it probably comes out even.  If the beach club is sold out that price will probably never drop.

One thing I find particularly annoying is that you can't check the prices after booking a reservation until you pay the deposit.  I booked on Anthem just to see the prices in the Cruise Planner, having a week to pay the deposit,  and found out without tying up money I can't even check it out.  And if I went for the NRD which they always set as default, I'd lose $100pp.  I don't know any other cruise that does this secret squirrel crap.

Ginny.  The Princess Plus package is 40 bucks a day, after factoring out the tips, it's 25.50 a day for wifi and drink package.  RCI can't touch it.  Even with the 15 drink maximum, would you rather pay 25.50 or 3 times as much on RCI just to be able to drink over 15 per day.  If you need that much every day, I feel sorry for your liver.

I wasn't speaking for myself, I was thinking about the math, and all those who talk about how they get their money's worth out of the package no matter what the cost.  I can't drink more than 2-3 drinks per day, both as a cancer survivor and because the last time I tried to get my money's worth on Oasis I ended up with the worst heartburn I ever had in my life.  Probably the Miami Vices lol, between the alcohol and the fruit they tore me up.

Since RC makes both of us get a package of some kind, we now have little use for RC's drink packages...even for hubby getting the deluxe and me getting the refreshment it's too much.  I suppose I could get the soda package and so he could get the deluxe but even that isn't worth it.  For our 12 day Anthem transatlantic in October I ordered him a few of those Bombay Sapphire and tonic packages for $45 and five bottles of the $30 sauvignon blanc with the cheese plate.  I'll preload some OBC so there isn't much of a balance at the end of the cruise and that will have to be enough.

Me too -- its gotten to be a ridiculous in-your-face example of just how the cruise lines (this one in particular)  get off on ripping people off now.   Nearly everything extra fee ..I won't be surprised if one day they charge you even to just get off the ship there.    Pretty sad, i think .. no matter now "exclusive" they think theyre making it.   "Perfect Day" ... how about "Extortion Day" instead?

Been to PDCC a dozen times since it was finished. Yet to spend a dime.

We do however plan on getting a beach club cabana for a wedding party next year. Don't care what it costs.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make.  I'm not complaining about the costs, as I don't pay for Cocoa Cay.   Sometimes I express my shock at the LOL prices even though they don't personally affect me.  I don't know why RC apologists need to justify the high costs every time someone comments on the price increases.  Doubling prices is noteworthy....yes we know RC does it because they think people will pay.  My comment about the bean counters was obviously a joke... probably should have added an emoji to clarify that 😉

FWIW, charging for, or raising prices is a method of capacity control.

me thinks RCI went to the Disney school of finance. Raise prices as high as you can until it back fires.

Folks are eager to go after almost 2 years of no sailing and will pay the prices.

Does it ever backfire on Disney though? (ETA besides EuroDisney) It’s been years since I’ve paid homage to the mouse lol

well folks over on disboards are complaining a lot.  But ya know greed is greed and folks tolerate somewhat I suppose.

But me thinks if a ship pulls into Coco Cay that already has slides on it, why pay for the thrill park.

You can't be serious.  Allure in Sept last year we paid $58.99 pp for beach club day!  And we will never pay over that either!  We'll just sit our butts in the big pool and eat with the pe'ons!

But they lose that status when they start their own cruise point account at 21.  At least that's what happened with our daughter.  She was diamond plus with us, but when she turned 21 they started her her own points...no longer was she diamond plus!  Read the bylaws in C&A

We just got back from Disney.  My last visit was in 1995.  Nothing has changed.  Outrageous prices and dreadful food.  The resort (Poly) was nice though.

This is not correct. There are many threads on this. Your children retain the status you had when they turn 18, but their actual cruise points are only whatever they earned on their own. The only way to gain the next level is for them to earn it themselves.

So if you are Diamond when your child turns 18, they will stay Diamond until such time that they have accrued 175 points on their own. This includes any/all points they actually earned while a minor.

  1. She should have retained your Diamond Plus regardless of how many points she actually had
  2. She should not have started her own point count when she turned 21, she should have started with however many points she earned sailing with you.
  3. This should have happened at 18, not 21.
  4. Further, if she were to get married, her spouse would be Diamond Plus if they take a cruise
  5. And apparently your future grandkids as well
  6. Further yet, if she were to get divorced, her ex would still be Diamond Plus.

You need to call.

But as you note. The exception is Pinnacle. You can not inherit Pinnacle. However, it still seems to be granted willy-nilly to spouses on a permanent basis. Evidence suggests that It is kept regardless of death or divorce from the original Pinnacle. Even given to their new spouses! Go figure.

Freedom November 22. 161.00

Anthem April 23. 249.00

Had it for 65.00 for August 21. Cruise was cancelled.  The above three are cruises I have booked that will stop at CocoCay.

Our June Mariner is $225 PER PRRSON  for beach club. And “sold out” over the water cabana is listed at $3,499!

Late May Mariner is just a few dollars less for each.

We'll be there on Odyssey in December, it's listed at $160.99pp right this minute.  Nice try RCCL but no enchilada.

I loved it, the food the service and no crowding, but that's all you get for that extra $.  Just a lobster sandwich instead of a chicken sandwich and no crowds.  When we were there without any extra dough, I didn't like 9 million people at the swim up in lagoon pool, but hey no sweat if they're gouging just to be gouging.  I will not comply!

Glad to hear that but that was not what the Ambassador onboard told us several years ago on Liberty, I am sure of what he said because I complained bitterly about it as he explained in great detail....guess it's just a case of another misinformation with different employees.  Glad to know she retains her Diamond status though.
