Has Celebrity heard us? Isolation is not so bad after all……

We have heard several reports of miserable treatment by Celebrity of passengers in Covid + isolation.  However, I read a recent report from F-book of a passenger currently on The Edge who developed a head cold on Day 1 of their Greek Islands cruise. No fever, No cough, No loss of taste/ smell - just a cold.  She reported to the doctor and tested positive for Covid.  She was moved from her suite to an IV on Deck 6 so she has access to fresh air.  Her meals are the highlight of her day (so she says) and they are served on real plates with champagne in Reidel champagne flutes.

Is this a fluke or has Celebrity listened to the desperate  pleas of their Covid + passengers to be treated humanely and as comfortably as possible?

why are you assuming that they are able to do the very same thing across all ships, on all itineraries, regardless of passenger load or how many passengers have tested positive?

I am not assuming anything.  I am wondering if policies have changed or if this passenger just got lucky?

The OP asked if it is a fluke, or a new policy after all the complaints. Why do you assume the OP assumed anything about all that? 🙃

With the number of IV staterooms on the Edge class ships moving a Covid positive passenger into one should not be much of an issue.  My husband tested positive on April 30 on the Eclipse.  He was moved into an Oceanview stateroom on deck 3 while I remained in our Sky Suite.  His food was plated on real ceramic plates, he had metal cutlery and glass wine glasses.  He also didn’t have to deal with delays in ordering meals and items which were to be served hot were indeed reasonably hot.

Thank you.  I always appreciate first hand reporting.

As has been reported on some of the "live from" threads, it seems that the only "policy" that Celebrity has regarding where guests testing positive are isolated is that it is up to each ship and Captain.   (And iirc, at least one poster reported being told that by Celebrity's executive office.)  While I would hope that across the fleet, ships would isolate pax in balcony cabins so they can get fresh air, I don't think one person's experience on an E-class ship, with numerous IV cabins, can be extrapolated into anything fleetwide.   And I hope I'm wrong.

I wonder why E-Class don’t use Deck 3 (Ocean View) cabins like the other ships.

Just based on the reports I have been reading, it seems like the bigger issues arise when there are a large number of COVID cases on board and a lot of crew out sick too making them especially short staffed.  It seems that the reports are a lot more positive when it appears to be less cases on board which makes sense as the crew is not as overwhelmed then.

To oversimplify the point of the thread, its just wrong to isolate anyone in a room without a veranda for days or possibly over a week, so they should not keep any Inside staterooms or OVs for isolation staterooms.  Some may be on team "you isolate in the same stateroom category you booked" so if one books an Inside stateroom then they need to isolate in an inside.  However, the majority of those who book inside cabins do so because they're never in their room therefore isolation is hard of them.  Also imagine being stuck in an isolation Inside stateroom on an Alaskan cruise.

What is it that you think has changed for the better based on this report? Besides real plates instead of styrofoam.

This has been discussed thoroughly on several threads and clearly posters are in two camps regarding the issues.  I absolutely do not agree and do not think it is at all workable in all cases.

I am on the Eclipse now and on day 8 both my husband and I tested positive.  There are other cases on board and we heard about another couple yesterday. Our cabin Stewart was pulled off work and put in isolation after greeting us on day 1, so the staff in some areas are doubling up and are stretched and since this is their second voyage in this contract, they are also not yet in the swing of how things work.  We’ve been in lock down for a full day so far and they offered to move me from our suite to a regular cabin in the event that my husband tested negative (unfortunately he wasn’t). They have offered free phone calls, free movies and premium wi-fi upgrades to anyone in isolation.  However, I asked for some masks to wear around the cabin in case anyone came in and they said we didn’t need them!  Their staff have KN95’s, but don’t all wear them covering their noses when they think people don’t notice. The biggest disappointment for us is the food.  All 3 meals so far are all tepid not hot and when you aren’t feeling well you want a hot bowl of soup not slightly warm stuff. Food is taking up to 1.5 hours to be delivered, things like salt, sugar for (warm) tea missing, no spoons to stir etc.  We were both unpleasantly surprised at how out of touch the ship design is.  There are a whole 2 electric outlets in the room.  Each day (before we got locked in) the steward was told by his boss to unplug our phone chargers, in this day and age that is crazy.  Also a disappointment is my hot tea loving husband has no way to make it himself, it’s a struggle to get them to replenish the ice (before as well as during isolation).  The food in the specialty restaurants is ok, service is hit or miss and I really didn’t appreciate being told that cilantro dislike wasn’t an allergy and them immediately serving us the first dish with it on it.   Their prices are up for sure.  We never got to the casino as it didn’t open while in Hawaiian waters.  We booked this trip in 2019 and it was the one bright star over the last couple of years.  What a mess.

I doubt it's a policy change. She might just be lucky in the sense that the ship had space and maybe some crew members took pity on her. It might also depend on ship management if they have gotten wind that their vessel earned itself a bad rep for shoddy treatment and it circulates online.

I have developed a pretty bad cold after foolishly standing on the windy deck in Ketchikan for a while and been high on Tylenol Severe Cold for two days now (which I thankfully had with me). Obviously I'm not reporting this to the medical team, knowing the origin of it, even though I've casually mentioned it to a few people including officers and they didn't care either.

We have to learn how to live with Covid. Locking people up because of it can't be the answer for the years to come.

I'm so sorry to hear that, this sounds like an awful experience and the Eclipse crew as well as Celebrity should be ashamed of themselves having such garbage protocols in place. But what to expect, I've been served cold dishes even in BLU all week long as well as overdone meat. F&B quality on the Solstice is the worst I've ever experienced so far - SAD! I have eaten at local restaurants at every port so far because I didn't want to eat on board. The $100 spent at Tracy's Crab Shack (RIP) was actually the best investment of the week.

Thank you for sharing. Did you both stay in your suite or did they move you to designated isolation cabins?

Definitely nothing like my experience 2 weeks ago on Constellation.

small room on deck 2, food in cardboard boxes, pretty much always turning up cold.

Was told I would get a pro rata refund and shore services would be in contact to give me details and medical clearance letter. Nothing...crickets

So sorry to read this, hope at least your symptoms are not too bad. Coriander can most certainly be an allergy, gives me breathing problems.  Do I gather you have been allowed to stay in your suite?

Our cruise on the 21st from Rome seems quite quiet. Looking at the available cabins though, it would seem that half the port side (from 6101 to 6303) is unavailable. I assume that's the isolation cabins?

Reading Bananavan's very detailed experiences on Edge she indicated the current voyage she is in isolation in is only at around 50%.

As a matter of interest how do I see the capacity on my 18 June Rome sailing? Thanks
