I will never, for the life of me,  forgive Rose for not letting Jack squeeze onto that floating door with her.

If that happened, we would be stuck with Titanic 2 and Titanic 3 sequels........

Whatever the reason and whatever the cause very tragic for all.  Puts a real downer on the rest of the cruise for all concerned and for the family at home. Very sorry and saddened to hear this.

Very sad. I’m sure it was distressing to hear the news as a passenger on the ship.

I have always wondered if people intentionally book a cruise to end up jumping off.  I mean its a lot of work to plan. i would think alcohol is usually involved and a big enough disagreement comes up that makes one actually think that jumping is the best alternative.

i did know of one guy when i was young who got high and thought  it would be fun to get up on a balcony rail on the 5th floor of a bldg to do a dance or something. he was buried 5 days later..so sad.

I guess “fell” is the politically correct way to say it. I just hate for new cruisers to think it is possible. I also think it’s become a option for people who want to commit suicide. Also people who want to commit a crime are in international waters and possibly hard to prove.

Yes, like having to fly in the day before your ship leaves as is often suggested by many CCers on this board.

It's like when they report that a train ran someone over. My husband always comments that they need to find a way to keep the trains on the tracks so this doesn't happen.

Not a great option for suicide if you ask me. Drowning in the cold ocean?

It is widely known that this group are nothing more than "ambulance chasers" who aims to sensationalize any and all cruise incidents to make as much money as they can.

Take all of their publications with a grain of salt and a great deal of skepticism.

I think there have been instances where somebody who was extremely drunk or doped fell overboard, but that is rare.

Not so rare at all. In fact, other than suicide, that's likely been the case in most cases.  Foul play is the least likely.

Pax said they last saw her on the lido but nothing about anyone seeing her jump/fall nor did they state the time they last saw her.

From that height unless you know exactly how to enter the water you risk injuring yourself when hitting the water, even experienced cliff jumpers have been known to crack a vertebrae or two.  When you hit cold water you have a sudden urge to inhale so if you're not doomed at that point, you'll most likely go deep and then you have to find your way to the surface which can be challenging in the pitch blackness.

I wonder how many of those who "fell" overboard played in the casino until they blew their entire credit limit and could borrow no more?

I don't think many, because the house always wins, almost all gamblers are use to losing.  Perhaps losing at the casino was the straw that broke the camels back in the mind of someone who already wanted to end it all for another reason.

Or perhaps provides an insight into realities of the cruise industry that many would prefer to ignore. Either way it's another perspective to consider.

The amount of what you can borrow per day through the shipboard account is rather limited.

I suspect hypothermia is the least of their problems... depending upon what deck and how they hit the water..it can be like hitting concrete. But it is very tragic that this had to happen to someone... deliberate or not.

I believe no cruise company besides Disney has put that system on their ships. I read it cost half a million per ship to make it happen.

I will most likely get blasted for this but here goes....whether this woman fell or chose to jump is a TRAGEDY for her Family/Friends and all this speculation and sometimes insensitive comments on how or why can be very inappropriate!

The heights of the ship sides are designed at a height strategically to prevent people from falling overboard. No one is that top-heavy, and the body’s center of balance and gravity would prevent it. Like those mentioned before, there are three options: self-intended, someone else-intended, or “accidentally” while misbehaving.

Have you met my mother-in-law!!!!?
