If I change to a cruise only rate, is there any free wi-fi?  May want to make ship reservations for dinner, etc.  We are not elite.

There is no free Wi-Fi however, you can use the app without paying for any Wi-Fi. You can connect the app and make dinner reservations and check schedules and so forth for free.

I have the app.  Does it then use my carrier's data plan?

No, it uses the ship system. You can also text others on it.

If you have the app you should be able to put your device in airplane mode and connect to the app. You can make reservations using the app without wifi.

They do have access to internet for free for the app and intranet to Celebrity Website.    I believe it also works for the app messaging but that's about all

Leave your phone in airplane mode when on board. You do not want your phone using your carrier’s data plan. Roaming rates on cruise ships are very expensive. As others have noted, you can use the Celebrity app on WiFi for free. It wouldn’t even connect if using your cellular plan.

The WiFi in the Always Included package is really Basic.

the Premium WiFi is better but remember you are on a Moving Ship trying to stay Linked to a Moving Satellite so don’t expect the kind of service you have at home.

also when a Lot of other guests are logged on the service speed May degrade.

You can create a separate account for your Elite mins, then just remember to log out when done and then go back to the basic account.

Not sure about the other ships however Summit wifi with AI  is pretty bad.

WiFi on Summit is dependent on both the position of the ship - above 45S or N latitude or many areas in the ocean - and how many people are using it.  With lots on it gets very slow on all ships

I wonder if the AI has a lot more people using wifi and that is clogging the system.  Never went above around 40 N.  Was a cruise to Bermuda.

All In package that includes unlimited WiFi was terrible.  It is a scam. You cannot depend on using it.  Most of the time, it didn’t work. If it did, it was very slow and often froze. Strangely, we are elite plus and get some free WiFi minutes as a loyalty perk. When the All In WiFi failed, we switched to elite plus minutes and more often could connect.
