TiiiSailor Posted August 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2022 Sent in my passport renewal application, using routine service, to the Philadelphia office, on 26 July 2022. New one arrived today. I was surprised getting the new one in 20 days.
kfnesq Posted August 15, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2022 Wow, that's impressive! I sent mine in at the end of June, and received it about 2 weeks ago - about a 5 week turnaround. Way better than the 8-11 weeks they promised!
Turk1 Posted August 15, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2022 Wow! That is fast. We have a last minute cruise at end of month and our passports expire in Jan 1923. Figured no way we could get renewed within the 8-11 week they state so using Birth Certificates and DL ID since this is a Closed-Loop cruise. Will renew passports when we get back. Taking marriage license also since birth certificate and DL have have wife's maiden and married names.
miyanc Posted August 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2022 we rolled the dice and are cutting it close. we are getting new passports, never had 1 before and paid for the expedited. because of scheduling 3 of us did it 1 day and 1 another. It gives us 8 weeks and 5 days for the 3 and 8 weeks and a day for the 4th. I didnt get really nervous until at the appointment they kept the birth certificates go with the paperwork. Now if something goes wrong we dont even have those. Feels like gamlbling and we arent even in international waters. i keep checking the process and all seems good, but it could come down to the last few days. Panic mode is ready if needed. Rare Broons77 Posted August 15, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2022 Renewals for myself and DW were received on 7/16 and just this morning my status update changed to shipped. Great turnaround, plenty of time for our October cruise! Yay!
HicksRA Posted August 15, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2022 I saw a blurb on the news a few days ago saying they’re starting a pilot program to renew your passport online. Should make it much easier if they adopt it. I just renewed mine so it’ll be another 10 years before I need to worry about it.
bigque Posted August 15, 2022 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2022 That can vary in Philadelphia. I sent mine there for renewal and they received it on June 22 and I got it back on August 4th which was 6 weeks. This was non expedited.

If you paid for expedited, I doubt panic mode will be required. 😉 The post-COVID travel backlog seems to have eased up. I bet you'll have yours in plenty of time. 🙂

I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think it would get here. The closer we get the more options we have. Meaning I can contact them and further expedite if needed.

Rare rrraydon Posted August 15, 2022 #13 Share Posted August 15, 2022 I just returned from the post office dropping my renewal off. Doubtful I’ll get it back in time for my cruise at the end of next month. I’ll just use my BC.
Another_Critic Posted August 15, 2022 #14 Share Posted August 15, 2022 Note that sending to the Philadelphia office does not indicate where the application is actually processed. Applications are farmed out to different offices. My Mom's was actually processed in New Hampshire.
Tatka Posted August 15, 2022 #15 Share Posted August 15, 2022 It used to be like this in 2000x-2010x... We never expedited and were getting passports in 2-3 weeks.

Wineaux007 Posted August 15, 2022 #19 Share Posted August 15, 2022 We're cruising in October, so I sent my wife's in last month paying for expedite. It took 3 weeks to the day I mailed it to receive her new passport. I was actually shocked when they said expedite was 5-7 weeks.
DaniDanielle Posted August 15, 2022 #20 Share Posted August 15, 2022 It was quick, we got ours in under five weeks.
Rare rudeney Posted August 16, 2022 #21 Share Posted August 16, 2022 I think we won the passport renewal lottery. I sent our off via Priority Mail on Monday, March 28th (headed to Philadelphia, not expedited). I received them on Friday, April 15th. April 9th. That was 18 days total. CRUISEFOUR Posted August 16, 2022 #22 Share Posted August 16, 2022 Our passports were sent out and received July 13 (non expedited) and we received them today (Aug. 15).
Cherful59 Posted August 16, 2022 #23 Share Posted August 16, 2022 I sent my renewal next day air on July 2nd and expedited the return. On August 1st, I sent an email to them as it was still not showing up as being received when I checked online for status. On August 3rd status online was finally showing as received so maybe my email helped. I put in my email for updates. 8/4 it was being reviewed, 3 hours later I received another update it was approved and being shipped and I received it on 8/8. Sounds like I should have saved my money.
