We decided to go ahead today and take the short tender ride to Boca Da Valeria. This village has 100 or so native residents but apparently folks from other nearby rural areas show up when a ship comes to call. CD Ryan says the first time a ship dropped anchor there to make a repair they sent the restless passengers ashore for a little look around while the repair was in progress. The locals ran for the hills not knowing what to expect. Now they come running FROM the hills to greet passengers with dollar bills in hand. Here is an early morning photo of our destination. 
 

Captain Arno Jutten wanted to stop in and pay a visit so here he is driving our tender to shore. One of the other drivers was quick with advice on moving a little closer to the dock (which appears to be a recent addition to the village).  
 

The children were lined up to adopt you for a while and I quickly had a boy hanging on my left arm and a girl holding my right hand. I allowed it because I had those dollar bills ready for their reward. We walked along the dirt path towards the church and school.

and inside where the wooden pews are a new feature. My adopted daughter sat on one to pose. 
 

we continued on and saw the school, the local watering hole, a display of artwork and many pet sloths, parrots, and even a large turtle. There is a small tributary running along the village to the Amazon and some people took boat rides for a small fee. 
 

 

 

 

 

I rewarded this young lady for taking a picture with me. 

 

I said goodbye to my new family and they took off clutching their reward and got back into line to adopt another new Mom or Dad. 

 

 

It was fun and more like what I imagined the Amazon River cruise would be like. Another bonus today was seeing a few pink dolphins cavorting beside the ship from my room.  You can see just a speck of pink in this photo. 

 

Sandi, thanks for your pictures.  When we were there in 2006, we were told to donate our dollars to either the school or the church, but to not give them to the children.  The parents would take the dollars and spend them at the local bar. 

 

The dock is new since 2006.  This is a picture of the pier when we were there.  The carpets on the pier were old hall carpets from various cruise ships.

@JazzyV Power was still off when we had church this morning, and our oil furnace broke down, so it was not able to heat the building even with a generator. The inside temperature for the service did make it up to 38 degrees F. with the small portable heater we were using.

Power at the house came on a little before 1PM. We hope it lasts at least 24 hours this time. The old-timers in town are saying this winter feels like it used to back in the '50's when power kept going off for extended periods. I got to know one of the old linemen that used to take his horses up on the power lines with equipment to make repairs. Now Puget Sound Energy flies helicopters up and down the lines to find the damage and then they send crews out. Times have changed, but it still requires some hard work and physical labor to keep the electricity flowing.

 

The linemen are certainly the backbone and unsung heroes of the electric utility industry.  They go out in all types of weather and conditions to keep the power on or to restore it.  They are quick to help in times of disaster.  BTW, this is from someone who's father worked for an electric utility and who's DH worked for a sister company.

I am not sure that “addict” really applies. I know I really enjoy this amazing group of people. And I enjoy reading about what is happening in their lives. I get emotional when I read good or bad news. I look forward to reading it everyday. 
 

If that is an addiction, so be it.

On my first post I got to reflecting how much time do I spend on CC not just the Daily?  I spend a lot of time but it’s enjoyable to me. So my original was in jest. Maybe a better word for addiction is being glued!😁

Just back from medical appointment after some lung therapy and some prescriptions .I’m cleared to fly back tomorrow. Negative on the Covid. Just a good old fashioned head cold that was a little stronger then norm. 
 

 

I am on cc every day using my Android mobile phone.

I lived for several years in a beach house on Long Island Sound. A crew from Connecticut Light & Power replaced the line to my house during a gale. I thought they would wait until the wind died down, but they said that the condition was potentially dangerous--that is, to me; doing the work was dangerous for them.

@aliaschiefAddiction is the perfect word. Yes I am addicted to the Daily, the rest of CC is sort of like a diversion from the actual addiction.   i learned quickly, if you have a question about cruising, you will find that where ever you try to find the answer, it will send you to CC.  I'm good with that.  It's just that I am happier here than anywhere else on CC.

 

Our Chinese Food lunch was good, our waitress had sort of an attitude with my DH, but not Debbie or me.  Because as I have mentioned before,  he has a hard time making up his mind.  The restaurant was less than half full, but she sure seemed to be in a hurry.  I had shrimp egg foo young.  one and a half egg rolls.  brought home the left over egg foo young (half of a huge portion)  guess i will have it for lunch on Tuesday.  

 

I am too full for a real dinner, so I will have a blueberry muffin, maybe some left over coffee,  and catch up with my Death in Paradise binge.  On Sunday DH calls his mom, and I usually talk with my BFF.  I doubt if I stay up past 10.

@aliaschief Yes, I am addicted as well.  I may not comment much after posting the Meal of the Day, but I do read later in the day to see what is going on with everyone. I'm pleased to hear that you can fly tomorrow.

 

@JazzyV How disappointing that your flowers were never delivered.  Rest assured, your BFF knows what is in your heart and those are the flowers that matter most.  

 

I spackled up all the holes.  The painting won't come until after the holidays.  Too much to do until then.  January is a good month to paint.  In some of the rooms I didn't remove the nails.  I just hung pictures.  Works for me!
