tigger54 Posted December 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2022 My husband booked a cruise through Celebrity casino about a month ago. It was a free cruise through a BBC offer. He just realized that he never got insurance. Is it too late for us to get cruise insurance? If not, can anyone recommend a company that will give us cruise insurance? We are booked on the Equinox leaving March 2023. Thank you for any advise you can give me.

Rare Tyler414 Posted December 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2022 Country of residence is important, but I believe if you want cancel for any reason, that must be purchased at time of booking or very shortly after. As far as medical, reparation, loss of life/limb can be purchased at almost any time. There was a thread on here about a Celebrity customer with Celebrity insurance and had an absolute nightmare with Celebrity insurance when they had a heart attack. The thread scared me away from Celebrity's insurance... Med Jet and Travel Insurance Store are what I was turned on to...
39august Posted December 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2022 You can buy basic travel insurance anytime up to a couple of days before the trip,. But at this point, you will not have pre-existing condition coverage without paying extra. For that coverage, you usually have to pay within 14 days of booking. I suggest you go the the insurance board on this forum. Lots of good info there.
pl281 Posted December 13, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2022 @tigger54 You mentioned this is a free cruise - so it sounds like you are looking for insurance in the event that you have medical issues during the trip vs needing to cancel - I would just call Celebrity and they should be able to add it

LB_NJ Posted December 13, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2022 There are places that sell 1 year medical travel insurance. If the cruise is free, then that is probably the best bet.

Rare WrittenOnYourHeart Posted December 13, 2022 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2022 On a free cruise, I doubt there would be reimbursement for cruise cancellation. That would be insurance for airfare. You'll probably only be able to look for medical/evacuation insurance. I know whenever I have looked at insurance for a trip, it specifically asks the cost of the cruise. If you're paying $0 that is only going to be $0. mattie123 Posted December 13, 2022 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2022 Booking thru BCC and you have to cancel you will receive full credit back to your card for taxes and port charges. If you are looking for simple medical/evacuation insurance I've been using GeoBlue for about five years. Purchase the one year plan. Knock on wood, have not had to use it! miched Posted December 17, 2022 #18 Share Posted December 17, 2022 Email from Cruise Critic , Things to avoid for a cruise, Insurance from a cruise line. It is from this site There are many private insurances that will cover you. We get a annual traveling policy that covers us for the year for any travel. I don’t care about the cost of the cruise as that is money already spent. I am concerned about the catastrophic medical part . I am on Medicare and I am not covered after so so many hours away from a USA port. I have also found that many health care insurance companies don’t cover medical conditions outside of the USA. You need to look at your policy. We take too many things for granted and it can cost us if not prepared. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

If you look at all of the coverages in the cruise line policy (especially med evacs and/or serious med condition) really do an apples to apples comparison, to us it's a no brainer as the cost diff with private insurance, while just slightly more and coverage is WAY more, really well worth the peace of mind. Get a quote do a comparison, it costs nothing to do that.
