We were booked b2b (2/18 & 2/28) on the Sun. As soon as I got the email, I called customer service to see if I could keep my outbound flight (booked thru ez-air) and then board the 2/28 cruise. The agent had to discuss this with her supervisor to see if that was possible. When she finally returned, she told me they were cancelling the 2/28 cruise as well and that I should watch my e-mail for written confirmation.

I asked when the next sailing would be and she said September. I asked her to verify that all sailings of the Sun would be cancelled until September and she said yes. I asked her to verify that with her supervisor, which she did. “No sailings until sometime in September,” was her response.

Did this agent know what she was talking about or was she giving me bad information? I can only go by what this agent confirmed no less than 8-10 times. I will be trying to find out for sure about my 2/28 cruise so that I can make other plans. It would be inexcusable for Princess to wait to the last minute again before they cancelled my cruise.

There is NO excuse for the lack of transparency and communication with this issue. I e-mailed several days in a row asking if this cruise would be cancelled and never received a reply. That is not good business and certainly not how I would expect a company to treat a long time loyal customer.

I am curious to see if others speak with Princess reps and are told something similar.

And maybe at some point, we'll get an official press release. Not only regarding the February 18th sailing, but explaining what 'technical issues' the ship is experiencing and the timeline for the ship to be ready for paying passengers. It would be unfortunate for them to cancel additional sailings last-minute.

I wonder why some people on the February 18th cruise received an email offering them a $1000 on board credit with a future cruise and some people received 50% off a future cruise?  (see email notices received on page 75) $1000 on board credit is not very much compensation for having a years worth of dreams, planning and saving up your vacation time only to have it yanked out from under you with 4 days notice (not that 50% off a future cruise compensates you fully - but better than $1000 for sure)

It's likely the $1,000 was for guests on special fares, like Casino bookings, who wouldn't have received much if it was based on their cruise fare.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Well we just woke up in Europe to this news. Absolutely appalled for those who were cancelled with 5 days to go.  At least we got a chance to book a plan B cruise after the Feb 8th cruise was cancelled (currently on our first of 11 sea days on Norwegian Joy heading to Miami on a TA). I had passed the baton (i.e .list of burning questions) to some vlogger friends of ours and now they are literally in the same boat. Madness.

If it is 50% of a future cruise that would be independent of anything paid for the cancelled on

The other anomaly is if you have flown full refund of airfare.

Not flown only $200.

UK bookings they need to cover all losses including but not limited to air and hotels

Just looked in the travel agents system and inventory has been zeroed out on all sailings up to and including March 29th. The first sailing showing availability is now the April 8th 9nt departure. I am unsure if any of these sailings previously had any open inventory as I have not been tracking it.

So does that mean April 8 will be the first cruise?

Not necessarily... It´s just that you can´t book any of the cruises anymore scheduled before April 8th.

So they can either move people from the two cancelled cruise to those which are now blocked. Or it gives them the chance to cancel one or more of those cruises when needed.

No, as it looks like April 8 is the first open cruise with cabins still available. Everything up to that point is sold out and was the same before the announcement.

According to Cruise Industry News, February 28 will be the new maiden voyage … for this week anyway.  If I were booked on that sailing, I wouldn’t be holding my breath.  Especially not 4-5 days prior to sailing.  Even if it does sail, I wonder how ready the ship will be?

Princess UK press release

Princess Cruises Takes Delivery of New Sun Princess from Fincantieri;

Additional Work in Shipyard Required to Support New February 28 Maiden Voyage

February 18 Voyage Regrettably Cancelled;

Princess to Give Guests Full Refund Plus 50% Future Cruise Credit and Cover Travel Costs

MONFALCONE, Italy, (February 14, 2024) – Princess Cruises today has taken delivery of Sun Princess, an entirely new ship platform designed by Fincantieri exclusively for the Princess brand.

The 175,500-tonne, 4,300-guest Sun Princess is the most impressive luxurious and stunning Love Boat ever created, offering an array of exciting new entertainment and activities, as well as sensational staterooms and suites across a broad spectrum of categories. With the most balconies on any Princess ship, guests can take in the sunshine and crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean and Caribbean from the comfort of their stateroom. The Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, is the perfect place to relax and the Arena! is an evolution and the most technologically advanced Princess Theatre design.

The ship does need to remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to ensure an outstanding vacation is delivered. Accordingly, the cruise line regrettably is cancelling the February 18 voyage. Sun Princess now will make its maiden voyage on February 28 from Rome.

Guests who were booked on the February 18 voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise fare along with any additional onboard services that were pre-purchased, as well as a 50% future cruise credit (FCC) that can be used on a future Princess voyage*.

The cruise brand is also offering financial reimbursement for select travel costs for guests who have already arrived ahead of their sailing and for guests who have not yet started their travel certain changes fees related to flights.

Princess is also protecting travel agent commissions

The strong commitment to Feb 28 is surprising given what has transpired over the last 3 weeks.

We don’t sail until July so I think we are safe!?   Princess needs to be fully transparent and tell the whole story.  Guests can handle the truth but this seems as if Princess is trying to hide information.   Uncertainty is never a good thing when you have invested so much time and money.    This is my first cruise on Princess.   Not having second thoughts but I really feel badly for all the effected passengers.

Still waiting for an official press release to come out today from Princess.

only thing we have really seen is the notification sent to the guests on the Feb 18 cancellation.

hopefully the official press release provides some additional transparency.
