Vaping doesn’t leave residual smoke, it’s not smoke, some has zero scent at all.

But, it ain't pure water vapor, either.  Unless you are vaping pure water, which doesn't make any sense, does  it.

I don't vape or smoke cigarettes of any kind.

All these 'vapers' claiming that it is harmless, and just water vapor remind me of the mindset back in the 1950's about how 'cool' smoking was and what a great thing it was to do. Yeah, that attitude sure killed a lot of people. Just because vaping 'might' be a better alternative to smoking cigarettes doesn't make a safe choice.  Safer does not make it safe. Sort of like saying that drinking bleach is better than drinking arsenic. Both will harm you!

1 post and this is it. sad. on our Symphony Cruise last August the room on the floor below us smoked on their balcony all the time...real cigs. I couldn't figure out which room it was exactly or I would have complained. I saw vaping in the restaurants and around the ship.

disgusting. sorry. there are places to smoke. I can't believe people don't understand the fire risks on a ship.

the old timers here like me...remember the Princess fire...I think one of our members was in a room that burnt. 🙄

Shouldn’t he be able to gamble without bathing in nicotine?

I would like to be able to walk through the casino without all the smoke.  I usually try to find another way than through the casino because of the smoke.

Just playing "Devil's Advocate", again.

For decades, going back to the first days of luxury cruising, up until about the early 2000's smoking on a ship was permissible, virtually anywhere.  I don't remember any major fires on a cruise ship being reported as cigarettes being the verifiable caused of a fire.  Even the fire on the Princess report says that it was "LIKELY" caused by a cigarette being thrown off of the balcony.  Even if it was conclusive, a single incident shouldn't dictate a whole industry's policies/rules.

Keep in mind, I said, "I DON'T REMEMBER".  That doesn't mean that I'm saying there were none, I'm not a student of smoking on cruise ships!  So, what has happened that made smoking and smokers the modern day pariah?  The squeaky wheel theory.

My personal feelings:  I don't smoke and I really don't care if people smoke or vape anywhere (common sense prevailing of course) on a ship.  So, I really don't care if there is a non-Smoking/vaping policy.   On the other hand, I can understand those that have an actual medical reason for not wanting smoking where they are.  But, I know that if I am allergic to something and a place that has that substance that I'm allergic to, I don't go.  But, once again, on the other hand, people with allergies have a right to enjoy the same things we do.  So, the bottom line, there is no easy answer.  It's a conundrum.

Apples/Oranges!  Speeding is USUALLY a physical activity that creeps up on most people as most people are rule followers.  So, the vast majority of speeders aren't anti-rule, just not 100% cognizant of their actions, me included, but it still isn't an excuse.

Disagree.  While yes, I have at times found myself with a "lead foot" and going faster than I desire, I set my cruise control at 8-9mph over the limit.  That's an "intentional act".  So, since you say you use cruise control, do you set it at the speed limit or the 7-8mph over?

I shared this information because I thought it was interesting to see what I think is the start of a turn around the acceptance of vaping which I wholeheartedly support if it means people do not smoke.  Given how horrible the smoke can be on certain ships from the wafting out of the smokers section I actually think this would please people who are sensitive to the smell and do not wish to breathe harmful second hand smoke.  Also people who have transitioned to vaping to help them with smoking cessation struggle to be around others who are smoking because they are concerned about relapsing.  Since vapers are forced to be around smokers it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me if we care about people who are actually trying to quit smoking for good.

Additionally I will note that  I was on Seabourn last year and vaping was allowed in cabins.  I wasn’t bragging about breaking rules but sometimes we have rules in life that dont make sense and I wouldn’t be surprised if more cruises start allowing it in cabins since it’s unlikely they’ll dedicate precious deck space to seperate smoking and vaping sections.

Lastly, in Australia vapes are prescribed on prescription (like my friend) and dispensed by a chemist for those seeking an aid for smoking cessation.  So my friend is under the care of her doctor and is actively trying to never smoke again which so far she has done and I for one support it.  If more cruise lines could see this and support Vapers like seabourn it can only be positive for everyone.

I personally think that smoking should be banned completely on board ships and that vaping should be encouraged/sold/promoted as a safer and much less offensive/obtrusive/obnoxious alternative to smoking cigarettes.

I don't and never have smoked or vaped but I'm pretty sure (having looked into the science) vaping isn't nearly as dangerous as smoking.

But then again, my opinion (like everyone else's)  is worth exactly what you paid for it.😉

Can you still smoke cigarettes on Royal Caribbean in the casino?  I don’t gamble but my husband would stop in occasionally later at night and come back smelling like he bathed in an ashtray.  That was in April

Everyone’s ok with that?

Unfortunately yes.  It was the one thing I loved at the restart when the smoking WAS banned in the casinos.  We actually played the slots with some leftover OBC and won on one of the smokeless casino cruises.

My older 30 yr old daughter vapes as does my 32 yr old oldest son.  I have a keen sense of smell and don't even know they are doing it.  I don't like it but I hate the cigarettes more because of the smell.  I watch people on every cruise vaping on the balconies and smelled nothing.  I could smell a cigarette on my last cruise about 7 or 8 cabins down.

My feeling is that the cruise lines should if they haven't already do research on any possible fire hazard of vaping on the ships.  And get an actual scientific study of how vaping can cause any second hand smoke lung damage.  This way all bases would be covered.

You can sugar coat it any way you want.

Bottom line is that is against the rules.  Don't like the rules?  Don't book a cruise on RCI.

Meanwhile in Mexico...May be an image of text that says '出 Dear Guest, We hope you've been enjoying your time onboard with us! Effective January 15, 2023, Mexico has banned all forms of smoking (including e-cigarettes in public spaces, including hotels, parks, restaurants, and beaches. As you go ashore in Mexico, please keep this in mind, as failure to comply may result in steep fines and/or being detained up to 36 hours. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to enjoying this destination and the rest of our time together! Sincerely, Adventure of the Seas'

I always appreciate your measured and logical posts. I have never vaped in my life, nor have I ever smoked cigarettes.  Our kids vape. They’ve never smoked cigarettes.  It’s a non-issue as far I’m concerned.  I detest the smell of cigars and cigs. And the vaping on our balcony or in the cabin with them didn’t bother me in the least. Now, that being said,  the edibles they brought and shared with Mom and Dad were absolutely lovely 😊

Simple: there's a rule. You break it and get caught, you risk consequences.

The human population does many things that aren't healthy, but no one appointed me to decide what is best for them. I'm sure the e-cig makers like the mentality, oh, it would be so much better for the poor tobacco addicts to use vape pens so they can stop. Give me a break. Just follow the rules. I don't want anyone concerning themselves with my habits. And I don't consider it my business to call security on anyone who is vaping, as to me it is far less objectionable than smoking, which I tolerate because I know that smoking is allowed in designated areas.

My grandson and his wife are planning a cruise for next fall.  They both vape - what exactly are the rules on Royal concerning this?  Are there designated areas for e-cigs?

Pretty much same rules for smoking apply to vaping. Same designated areas as smokers.

I'd much rather stand behind a vaper than a smoker though.

There is some evidence to suggest virus like cold and covid carry further in vape and smoke than they so in normal breath, its why during the Hight of covid a lot of bars in Europe banned smoking on the outside tables, you had to walk away from the bar to do it.

I wish to not be behind a vapor or a smoker.

I have to admit the ones that produce those massive plumes of vape are annoying and unnecessary, as the lower vape plume ones do the same thing.

Nothing worse than walking into a massive fog like that
