Rare korky1 Posted February 17, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2023 We were on Majestic in December but couldn't board till 3pm because of some covid issue. Back on her next week hopefully at noon and have heard that one of the MDRs will be open for lunch as well as Alfredo's. Have read on here that lunch menu in the MDR on embarkation day is pretty special. My husband and I don't really eat pizza but have read on CC that Alfredo's pizzas are very nice so thinking of maybe going there for our first lunch. Which would you recommend? Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted February 17, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Well...this is from someone who has NEVER gotten on a ship in time for the MDR.... It's hard to beat Alfredo's! It's not *all* pizza...but it is a somewhat limited menu. https://www.beyondships2.com/grand-princess-alfredos-pizzeria-menu.html Edited February 17, 2023 by Rick&Jeannie

Starshine95123 Posted February 17, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2023 We usually do the main dining room. Hubby loves the salmon and I love the beef medallions. We have plenty of time to go to Alfredo’s for lunch or dinner during the cruise. You really can’t go wrong with either place for lunch.
EDDY0827 Posted February 17, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2023 Ditto what Starshine said. MDR is my first choice, if not, Alfredo's.
MustangGT Posted February 17, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2023 Another MDR fan here! I’m not officially on a cruise until I have ordered: Avocado and Bay Shrimp Salmon Orange Soufflé On our last few cruises, I didn’t even open the menu. Decision made! As Starshine says, we can eat at Alfredo’s all cruise long but the embarkation lunch menu only happens once per cruise. My husband also recommends the beef medallions!
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted February 17, 2023 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2023 I’m with the MDR embarkation lunch bunch. If you can board early enough. You have the whole cruise….even port days…or an in between meal time to experience Alfredo’s. Embarkation lunch is never repeated.
Rare donswife Posted February 17, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2023 The experience in the MDR is usually so quiet and serene, just perfect after a busy day of travel. Alfredo's tends to be noisier because of the location along the piazza. Another vote for MDR. And be careful with that delicious orange souffle, it is very hot!
Rare korky1 Posted February 17, 2023 Author #9 Share Posted February 17, 2023 MDR it is then! Alfredo's next day. Thanks for the advice everyone.
nini Posted February 17, 2023 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2023 The dining room has never been on our radar for embarkation day. It is really that good? I appreciate any comments.
MsSoCalCruiser Posted February 17, 2023 #11 Share Posted February 17, 2023 My vote is for MDR. I have a dairy allergy so your plate may be a bit different than mine. We always look forward to the embarkation lunch in the MDR.

I appreciate any comments. It is a typical Princess lunch menu. What is special is that it is nice and calm compared to the zoo that is the buffet on embarkation day. A nice relaxed lunch is a nice relaxing way to really start the onboard vacation.

atobols Posted February 17, 2023 #16 Share Posted February 17, 2023 We always go for MDR. I don't love the embarkation menu but I do love that it's calm and relaxing. That's always the first moment I feel like I'm on vacation.
Rare Lady Arwen Posted February 17, 2023 #17 Share Posted February 17, 2023 MDR for sure. Salmon, soufflé, done! So special.
avonlady6390 Posted February 17, 2023 #18 Share Posted February 17, 2023 I always get the same as well the avocado shrimp salmon and orange soufle. The reason it's more calmer in the dining room on embark day is because it's not advertised to the masses.😊

It’s hard to be patient but after years of practice, I let it sit for a minute or two before digging in and devouring it!
Wishing on a star Posted February 17, 2023 #20 Share Posted February 17, 2023 On our last cruise, we didn't make it on time to go to the MDR before the limited lunch hours ended. But, if there is Soufflee, then go for it! And, yes, do also go to Alfredos, more than once, for the fresh made italian pizza.

Below is not from the Enchanted, but is typical for an embarkation lunch menu in the dining room. (To enlarge, click on a photo. Then click again on the new image. That will open up the photo in a new tab. Click on that photo and it will be enlarged for viewing.)

Traveling soon with my friend who has same allergy and I so want to start off on the right foot! I know to consult about dinners the night before, wondering how first day lunch works. She would be so happy with everything in your photos if she could be sure they were dairy free!
