There may be different rules for winnings from DorND as they are generated from within the ship. I was referring to the "traditional" OBC.

I don't think there are different "promo" chips.X isn't that sophisticated.  I think it is just applied differently from ship to ship.

If you purchase chips ahead of time - where they give you a 10% bonus there are rules and of couse you have to convert them all to regular chips before cashing in.  "

No contra betting permitted on Roulette or Baccarat. Promotional Chips cannot be used at the Texas Hold’em table. Promotional chips Chip denominations are subject to availability. Guest must present SeaPass at table play for Casino recording. Cancellations can only be made pre-cruise via Cruise Planner; refunds will be made to the original form of payment. After Cruise Planner closes for the sailing, all sales are final. Pre-Cruise purchases made that exceed the maximum purchase amount will be refunded to the credit card originally used for purchase within seven business days after the original charge was made. Offer is subject to availability and change without notice and may be withdrawn at any time. This promotion will not count towards Blue Chip Club loyalty points accumulation. You seem to be talking about chips that you buy which I have no experience of.

I was referring solely to using traditional non refundable OBC (for example what we get as Shareholders) and for that the system has always been that you can't use those on red/black, odd/even or any other 50/50 bet.

Looking at your Post again you say you went straight to the table and put your bet on.

You can't do that on Silhouette - to use OBC you first have to go to the cashier who issues you with  "promotional" chips in cash denominations. You then exchange those for the coloured chips to play the game. You can't put the "promotional" chips directly onto the table.

Either Equinox has a different system or you were just lucky.

Are you serious, its economy of words....

It's the same on Equinox, to be explicit, we went to the Cashier desk and with our cruise card got $250 in chips. Yes they were different to the cash chips, they had a red circle just inboard of the edge, they probably call them Promotion chips, who cares....

We then converted them into cash chips by betting on red and black. As I said you need two people otherwise the teller wouldn't allow you to bet simultaneously on red and black.

We have done the same on Silhouette, Eclipse and Reflection in the past without any problem.  Just don't be obvious and do it progressively over a few nights.

Totally agree - don't be obvious.  This probably varies from ship to ship, cruise to cruise.  Also, I highly doubt there is more than one "promotional" chip (or whatever they are called). That is why I posted the rules on no contra betting.

There have been posts that say you can't use OBC in the casino, which even accorinding to X website you can as of 2015.

Thanks for posting your experience.

Thanks. It's exactly that bet - the use of promotional chips in any combination on red/black, odds/evens- that was refused on Silhouette on our last 4 cruises all taken since the restart the last 2 in May/June 2022.

We continue to convert all our OBC to cash as we have done for many cruises by playing Roulette using "corners" which gives us a lot of fun, very little risk and to date a 100% success rate.

I haven't heard this I know as an individual you can't bet red & black but would like to see where it says you can't bet outside.  We had promo chips from DorND and we bet them outside no problem

It may depend on the dealer.   We also tried it and told we couldn't bet on the outside with promo chips.

I can't find anything specific about my question.

Our cruises have a spot where you can pre buy casino chips. I guess you pay $50 and get $55 in promotional chips.

It says something that you have to "play through" those chips. What does that mean? Could it be that once put in play, let's say craps, on the Pass Line, you have to use that chip until you lose it? When they pay off on a bet that has a promo chip on it, do they pay off in real chips?

When you "color up" to leave the table, do they give you real chips?

I have left alot of chips on these ships but I haven't used these promos before. With all the OBC given out, it might be a good way to funnel it through the system.

Winnings are real money.

We find the simplest way is to have 2 piles of chips:

On our left we have the promotional ones and we only pay with those.

On our right our winnings.

Once the left hand pile is zero we cash in and walk away.

Repeat daily, never chase loses.

We play Roulette not Craps betting 5 x 1$ chips each time, each chip covers 4 numbers which gives us almost an even bet. Each win pays $8 with the winning chip left on the table meaning our next bet uses just $4 from our promo pile.

This system gives us a lot of fun for very little risk and over the course of a cruise we convert all our OBC to cash and have never lost.

Will we ever make a fortune playing this way - no.

Not in my experience. I generally put in $300-$400, play no more than $5, and repeat the next day. I believe it's ship-dependent, as I've heard there may be issues on the newer and revolutionized ships.

On Beyond in February, it allowed the “old” way. In April, it was the “new” way where you had to wager 50% of the amount downloaded to the machine or you were locked out from downloading more for the remainder of cruise.

The workaround is go big late in the cruise 😜. It would not surprise me to see that 50% go up …………

I have a ton of OBC and I like to play Blackjack.  Usually budget $200-$300 to lose at most.  Will I be able to withdraw ~$300 of the OBC at the casino and use it to play Blackjack?  I will most likely play around 10 hours in total.  If by some crazy chance I win, will I be able to cash all of my winnings in for actual currency?

Why is this so confusing?

I cannot speak to the casino actions, however I can say I have received refundable OBC on the second or third day of my cruise 3 months ago from guest services. I did not need to wait until the last day or two. Even after my withdrawal we still had a large amount (about $1,500) of non-refundable OBC remaining so maybe that was a factor in getting it early.

This must be ship to ship - on our May cruise we did not get this message.... but LOL I picked an Auto spin machine that took half in the blink of an eye the first time 🙂  I won't make that mistake again.

Play through is you have to play each of the chips once.

All winnings are paid out in regular chips that can be cashed in.    As an example if you had $50 in promotional chips and bet $1 and win $50 you will still have Promotional Chips and $50 in regular chips (which can be cashed in).   They are color coded.

That's good to hear.   Unfortunately every time I've tried they told me they couldn't do it until the last day before the end of the cruise.   It really makes no sense to me.

I withdrawal my RF OBC so I don't loose 3X miles on Chase Sapphire

Yes, have done this many times.  Go to the cage & ask for onboard credit out & they give you "special" chips then as you play you recycle the chips with regular chips.  Hopefully you walk away with all the $$

Too many people to quote…

-if you’re locked out you can talk to the casino manager who can remove the lock if you convince them you’ll be playing more

-The same person isn’t allowed to do contra (even money) bets, occasionally a dealer will look the other way for a few if it’s a relatively low dollar amount.  As stated, if you’re a couple each of you can bet making it an effectively a contra bet

-Unlike roulette where you can lose on 0/00s, if baccarat is open (ask them if they’ll be opening it if it’s closed), you can’t really lose because a tie is a push, however, if the banker wins, you will have to pay 5% commission.  Still a much better bet than roulette where you could lose it all
