Cutbacks on full suite experience?

Dear cruisers,

We just got of the fabulous Sky princess we did a 14 day baltic cruise, in one of the aft facing penthouses.

but once in the room we noticed a few things that should be there like:

-wine set up  (like reserve class mini suite) just mini bar set up.

-upgraded bathroom amenities, eye mask etc.

-room service menu in the room ( its all on TV now that resulted that we couldn't order what was on the menu that night).

-real flowers (now been replaced by fake ones).

-no proper wine glasses (just long drink glasses we could ask for it but I didn't bother us).

-upgraded turndown service? (just put the patter on the bed? or renew bedding everyday?).

don't understand me wrong, but this was we notice still had a fabulous time onboard.
still booked a suite for next year, but were thinking of mini suite reserve class for 2025 since 3000 pounds difference is makes suites on princess not a good value in our opinion.

but my main question was this just on this cruise or fleet wide?

  • Thanks 1

Aloha. We were scheduled to sail with you but had to cancel for medical reasons.  We had a reserve mini suite and am grateful for your post.  If possible can you please provide a trip report if you have the time. Thank you so much and welcome home!

Those extras make it special, so I understand.  I had not heard this on other ships, so hope this is not the norm.

Did you bring it to the attention of your concierge?  If so, did they update any of those items?  Just wondering.

We did at the end, since we notice more and more (like toe nails on embarkation day dust all over the room etc but we tried to safe the crew since they all work hard, but it was building up and decide to complain with the suite manager and he did solve it really well. at the end they clean the whole room plus furniture (they wanted too) plus the balcony which we never ask for but according to him it was because these rooms are always full and as goodwill we got 1000 pounds FCC for the next cruise

Good to hear they addressed it.

To get the MDR menu, all you have to do is call room service.

well we used the concierge to do it but the results was that they showed the next day menu already on the TV but after we mentioned with them it was sorted:)

The menus have been on the TV and app our last 5 cruises. The perks we mostly enjoy like Sabatini’s breakfast and laundry service are still in operation. We did have to ask for a makeup mirror on our last one which was unusual

Princess suites have never ben a good value as compared to other cruise lines like RCL or Celebrity. By Attrition they get worst. Full suites should have reserved seating at shows (they do on RCL) but Princess gives that perk to those that drink alcohol in their package. Mini suites are a much better value.

Make no sense to pay all that money for a Suite on a mainstream cruise line, if I was paying the extra, I would go over to Silversea or Regent, the moment you leave you cabin the food and service is near the same, bar the breakfast. Ymmv

That is the way it’s been for us since the restart except for the “upgraded toiletries “. Our last cruise in a suite they weren’t there so we asked. The items were in short supply so they were only giving those out on request.

Regarding the wine set up, the only time we have gotten wine since the restart was when the ship didn’t have the small bottles of alcohol. Once those were back in stock they gave out the normal mini bar.  The two splits of wine are given to club class / reserve collection mini suites only

In my opinion a mini suite is of no real value. Just a little more room than a balcony. No perks at all like laundry, free specialty dining on embarkation night, no specialty breakfast and no reserve class dining unless you pay extra for a reserve class mini suite. I will continue to book casino free cabins and upgrade to full suites

We have also been paying to upgrade a comped casino offer and on most of those we have opted for full suite. Is it like the luxury lines?  I doubt it. But for what we are paying it’s pretty darned nice.

So you haven't paid similar money as Silversea etc

Can you get a full suite on Silversea for $250 per per add on per day ?  And get extra OBC and gambling money ?  That is about what we end up paying for full suites on casino deals

We'll be on our first Princess cruise in  September and have opted for a Penthouse suite. Our last two cruises have been in a Sky Suite on Celebrity.

There are many differences that we can see from the offerings, so we're not expecting the same experience as X, but we'll see what it actually means in a few weeks. We'll be on Discovery in Alaska and have previously been there on Celebrity Eclipse in 2019 and NCL Pearl in 2009 (in a balcony room).

We have also sailed on Oceania, but being a much older ship, it wasn't what I would consider a 'suite experience'.

No, but you can't get a suite ON Princess for that without a casino promotion, that's what I am saying

Suite on the Caribbean Princess.

Dirty carpet and counter tops.  Barely working, if that, refrigerator.  No champagne or wine. Had a coupon for first night in specialty restaurant.

Suite Minibar delivered after sail away.  Had trouble ordering change out to undelivered Elite bar.  Fruit basket in room and canapés delivered at sail away (new selections).  Floral bouquet delivered a couple of days into cruise.

Suite and/or elite amenities?  Eye shades, shower cap, chap stick.  No bar of soap or small tubes of anything.

Previous cruise, I was told suite bed linens changed every day. Haven’t observed otherwise…he’s pretty stealthy.

2 bottles of water after the first night.

Before we started getting casino deals we would book minisuites and then get upgrade offers to full suites. Can’t go back anymore.  I have not seen much cut backs over the last 15 years.  Can’t afford the luxury lines so can’t compare their suites

I don't sail in a suite so maybe the menu is different? But when I go to my app I can see the MDR dinner menu for the entire cruise once onboard. Just not the 'supplemental' vegan menu. The TV only shows the current days menu which isn't that helpful if trying to figure out which day to go to Sabatinis

We sailed in a Penthouse on Sky in May and received a full bottle of sparkling wine and a large floral arrangement on embarkation day.  I was surprised since we usually receive 2 demi bottles.  I suspected we received these items since we weren't notified in advance that our suite was modified during the May drydock to a semi-handicap cabin with a bolted down foldable seat/bench and heavy metal grab rails in the standup shower.
