Sea lice Cococay

Anyone have issues there lately. Heard it's really high season right now.

 

Advice?/suggestions? Safe sea? Wet suit? Rash guard nylon suit?

 

After the fact lotions? Go to the medical facility for some cream?

I had no bug issues when I was there a couple weeks ago.

There is no total protection from sea lice. Sea Safe, dive skin, wet suit etc will help. Antihistamines like Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream help if stung.

Maybe only use the pools

Was at Cococay on the Oasis July 21-28 cruise.  I heard people saying there were jellyfish at Chill Beach.  We stayed at Harbor Beach and the pools and were fine.

Can you see them.  On our October Oasis sail, my son was bitten on one of his nipples and started bleeding.  He could not see what bit him and assumed it was a small crab.  This occurred at Chill's Breezy Bay Beach area.   Been there many times and this was the only occurrence.

I was at the Coco Cay Beach Club 2 weeks ago and people said there were jellyfish in the ocean.

If you wear a shirt they can get inside the shirt and your body. Males  better to not wear a shirt and not wear long trunks. Females should wear two piece bathing suits.

Your guess is more likely - sea lice are kind of like mosquito bites so not likely to bleed unless scratched.  I have pulled broken bottles out of the water in that area.  Not common, though.

My daughter got bitten multiple times in Roatan by what the locals called sand fleas.  Said to use coconut oil on them, but you couldn't find any coconut oil anywhere near the beach.  Benadryl alone didnt realy seem to help much.  There was a pharmacy near our hotel and got some prednisone that helped.

Been going there for many years and never have had any issues with sea lice or any other kind of bugs.  We go 10-12 times a year, and no issues at all.
