I so agree, if people aren't going to spend the time and money for a proper SD, at least get the CGC and Public Access certifications.  I think this should be a requirement.

 

An 8 month old wouldn't even be fully trained.  Another case of not wanting to leave the pet behind.  Find a good dog sitter or drive.

Canine Companions for Independence offers their fully trained Service Dogs at NO COST to the public.  There is an interview process and a waiting list but it's worth it.  There are lots of people on this forum who have CCI dogs and can attest to their training and worthiness.  

 

You are so right that a puppy should NOT be considered a fully trained dog and be trusted not to nip at someone.  That little girl did the right thing in asking, and then she got punished for doing so!  So sad!

I didn't even know CCI provided free.  A lot of service dog trainers are non-profit.  And some of those that "require" fundraising can be a scam.

Have a nice weekend everyone.  It was a very interesting weather week for us here in Southern California......we had everything but snow.....the thunder and lightening sent Horton to the bedroom.....he hates noises from the heavens!

Our next cruise is not until November and I got an "alert" from Princess letting us know that there's a change on arrival and departure times into San Francisco and Monterey.......amazing how planned they are, so early!

I have to laugh when you think that "50" degrees is actually warm........50 makes me get shivers.  We're going to have 70 degrees [our normal] by the end of this week......please!

That’s about 10c if my brain machine is working right, and here that’s actually COLD. Be a rare day time Winters night that drops below that.

Thank you all so very much for all of your help and encouragement! We really enjoyed our recent Carnival cruise to Mexico! 

 

Boaz was indeed very very well received by crew and guest alike. He was treated like the cruise celebrity everywhere we went. 

 

Once we reboarded in our last port and we’re relaxing at the hot tub on the serenity deck is when I really began to feel relaxed but overall we enjoyed it all very much. 

 

We were seated with wonderful people and they all loved him too! 

 

Boaz even made the wall of fame and won a free 8x10 photo. 

 

He wasn’t too crazy about the tiny box and less than happy about me taking a photo of him in it.  😂 

 

Every crew member we encountered was absolutely wonderful and extremely accommodating.

I'm so glad that your cruise was a good one.  It's a lot more work to travel with our wonderful dogs but once you're onboard and you've grabbed your first "foo-foo" drink and laid back on a lounge chair, it's all so worth it!   I will NEVER travel without my Service Dog and, of course, that includes cruising.

 

Although the potty box is really sufficient for our "big" dogs, they do look a bit put-out when they have to use them.

 

When is your next cruise?  And, when you plan a cruise that is at least 14 days long, you will be even more relaxed and comfortable.

So we (my mom & I, and Bentley of course) have 2 upcoming cruises, a 3 night to the Bahamas in the beginning of April and a 7 night to Alaska towards the end of May. We also just found out last week that my dad has cancer. Obviously my dad comes first, but we were still a bit worried about the fate of our cruises, not only because we enjoy them, but we also have a lot of (non-refundable) money into them. We found out today that my dad's surgery should be scheduled perfectly in between both of them. It'll be great to have one cruise to prepare us for all to come, and then another cruise to de-stress after going through a tough surgery with my dad. Just the excitement of our upcoming cruises has been helping my mom & I get through all of this already!
