Am I the only person onboard who has no interest in "Quest"?

Recommended Posts

I think it might depend on who you are with, if a fun loving crowd, I'm sure we could have a great time.

We're also in the get up early crowd and love the deck early in the am, love watching the ship pulling into port. We cruise for the ocean and that's why we're out there at night too :)

We're also weary of the comedians and the CD's same old jokes, every cruise, every cruise line.

We do enjoy the jugglers if there are some onboard. The last "show" we went to was a guy who "had a thousand voices". Well, it was a good thing he identified who he was imitating before each song, it would have been hard to guess :p

I went to the Quest on the Brilliance. Just had to see what the hype was all about. It was OK but nothing to write home about. But i heard that they toned it way down due to the demographics onboard.

The love and marriage game gets real old. The CD had to whisper the answers because they forgot their lines. Scripted? You think?

I've been to Quest twice out of my 3 RC cruises. The first time I almost passed out I was laughing so hard. That was on the Rhapsody in 2002, and everybody who wanted to got to be an active participant. Most teams were about 10 people.

I had mixed feelings when we went to Quest on the Mariner last month. It was still very funny, but holding it in Studio B made it more like watching a show than playing a game. I saw a lot more people hauling in bags of "props" than I did in 2002 also. I think that takes a lot of the fun out of it. The funniest thing is still the participants who have never seen it before and they're improvising to get the items they need.

So...I guess I'm a "take it or leave it" Quest person. It all depends on what else I want to do!

Being a late nite person, I still go if nothing else gets in the way. We travel with a fun group and do have a great time when we go. So until we are at the point we need to sleep more than have fun, then maybe we will stop. Not saying it will never happen, but not yet.;)

Bonnie. . I am with you. I watched Quest on a few cruises. I am now finished with Quest. . I think it is great that many people LOVE the game.

But the great thing about cruising is that there are many activities for many different people. . .

Imagine if everyone on a ship went to see Quest, or an Art Auction, or went to the pool, or spa, or the Schooner Bar all at the same time. . . WoW ; it would be mayhem !

Ok. . . I'm done ! I love all the activities that cruise ships' offer. . . I just don't want to participate in all of them  Did that make any sense ?

Radio

We are definitely on the same wavelength here! All the time I hear people make the statement that they don't need to sail on Voyager or Freedom-type ships because they will never use the flow rider or climb the rock wall, etc., etc.,....Well, my theory is, that is all the more reason I WANT to be on those ships! I don't ride the flow rider or climb the rock walls either, BUT while 1/2 the passengers are up on the top deck doing just that, I am down in the empty shops enjoying myself or sitting in a quiet spot inside the ship watching the sea. When I sailed on the Disney Cruise I sorely missed the casino....why? Not because I like to gamble. Quite the contrary, I NEVER gamble or even enter the casinos, but on the Disney Cruise all those folks who would have been spending hours in the casino were displaced and had to occupy the space I would have preferred to have to myself! ;) So, do I go and watch Quest? NO! But do I want them to stop doing it altogether? No Way! Keep those folks amused and out of the Viking Crown Lounge where I'm enjoying my quiet cocktail!

Before quest became a cult 4 of us particiapted in it & had a blast came in second. Since all the hype we usually skip it now. Did it done it when it was new. Sometimes you just can't go back & redo something & quest is one of these things.

Bonnie - I'm with you. Saw Quest the first time I saw it way back in 1999 - thought it was hilarious and laughed till my side ached. Second time enjoyed it as well but not quite as fun as I knew what was coming. Third time was just a few years ago and it was held in Studio B. I totally agree that the Studio B atmosphere made it feel more like a "show" - especially as so many people are in on the gig and come prepared. But - I also totally agree that while everyone else is out on their "quest" it simply opens up more space in the viking crown lounge for me to sit back and enjoy my cocktail.......

We have sailed RCI four times now and have never attended Quest. We too are in the Viking, Vintages, or having a goodnight cookie at Cafe Promenade! ;)

Bonnie, I'm with you and the others who would rather enjoy the sunrise -- then it's 3 miles for me on the jogging track while everyone else is asleep. The mornings are so special, my favorite time at sea.

Sleep is for the weak.

Yes, you are all a bunch of wet blankets.

But that's ok - as so many have posted, that's why there are so many different activities on board. Different strokes for different folks.

I, too, DETEST people who "come prepared". On the Monarch in May, the CD threatened to oust anyone with bags of stuff. And he had some NEW "quests" - it was VERY VERY FUNNY.

Could I live without out it? Sure. Do I still go (almost) every time? You betcha.

I *do* agree that the Love and Marriage game is WAY old now. No new questions AT ALL. I agree with whoever said that they should require that only new cruisers play. If you have a decent CD, there is no NEED for scripting.

So, please, stay away from Quest if you don't like it. More fun and running space for me and my friends. :D

Now don't bite my head off! I know Quest has a cult-like following and I think it is great that so many people have so much fun with it, but I personally didn't feel the need to see it happen again and again. Don't get me wrong, I laughed out loud when I saw it, but now that I've seen it I have no interest in seeing it again. I realize the "players" change on each cruise which changes the outcome of the "script", but the game itself doesn't change and the shock value is gone for me. It's sort of a "been there, done that" sort of thing for me. Am I the only person who feels this way? Is there something wrong with me? (don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question!:p ) Anyway, with the sudden surge of Quest threads on the boards I began to wonder if there was anyone else out there who prefers to be sitting in the Viking Crown Lounge at 10:30p.m. listening to music, sipping a lovely drink, and watching the moon glow over the ocean? I think I just figured out why its always empty up there at 10:30p.m.! ;) You're all at Quest! :D

I too would prefer to walk or sit with a nice coctail or hot chocolate and watch the beautiful sunset and horizon at night. It is wonderful to not be in a crowd, or waiting in a long line. The same is true about the morning, what a sight seeing the sun rise and realizing that at least 80% of the ship is still sleeping. I also love to stay onboard while others go ashore. Again it seems as though it is really personal service then.

The first time I experienced Quest I was part of a team. No one on our team of 6 had ever participated before, so no cheating there. Our team won, it was a blast. Now that I have experienced it, if I am up at that time I will go. If I hit the sack early, no big deal.

The thing that I think is a total waste of time while on a ship is the casino. After almost 30 cruises I can honestly say that I have spent less than 2 dollars in the casino.

Just glad they have a variety of things to keep everyone entertained while on board. Since I am retired (going on 13 years now) I do not even go on cruises to get away from work. I love the adventure of seeing places we have never been to before. ;) :D

I have been a few times and always walk out in a very short time. I find it obnoxious and just plain stupid. I am not into watching people run around screaming and yelling and pushing and shoving. I have tried and never enjoyed a minute of it. I know people love it and I tell everyone to go form your own opinion.

Hopefully RCCl can get wind of this thread and think of some new ideas to intertain people.

Let's see so far most everyone would like to do away with Quest and for the Love and Marriage Game have only new cruisers do it which is a great idea or do away with it and find something new.

Any other things you don't like that need changed?

Sorry if I left anything else out but zipping through this thread (which has gotten to page 3 in no time) that's all I noticed so far that needed changed.

See, that's why I've never been. I find that stuff pretty obnoxious and stupid, too. Just not my idea of entertainment. Never been to L&M either. Even having never gone, I can pretty much guess the questions and just the kind of people who will be participants and what kinds of things they'll say.

I guess I'm just one of the boring who don't find "those people" or "those" kinds of things amusing or entertaining.

Nice, though, that DURING those times it's easy to find a nice, quite spot to relax and reflect. Now, THAT'S entertainment!

I don't want them to "do away with Quest". I like that it draws so many passengers away from the rest of the ship! :D I just don't want to go see it myself! ;) And fortunately, no one has ever MADE me go! :)

In all my cruises have never done QUEST, although I know what it is since we traveled with friends who have done it..Even though we are usually up at that hour, I'd rather be on deck, or my balcony or the Champagne Bar, Schooner Bar or Viking Crown or even in the casino..(seems the payoffs are better when everyone is at Quest!!!)

Belly Flops...probably have seen them all. They are usually on sea days and we are at the pool if it is good weather so no getting away from those.

We usually watch the Love and Marriage when it's televised in the cabin the next day. DH and I laugh but after all these years of cruising, the questions are still the same!!
