Breakfast room service tip

My husband usually gives them a couple of dollars for one tray. If you are getting 2-3 trays then maybe a little more. It is entirely up to you. He keeps a small stack of one's handy since mornings seem to come early on some days.

where did this 'tip for room service' myth begin?

I give one tip at the end of the cruise don't I ......

tips added to drinks are another thing I don't understand

BUT

I do understand that most of this comes from the 'legacy' of cruising . . .

bar tenders were not included in the 'tip night ritual' ..... but my room stew' sure was!

some believe that room service is not included in their basic fare .... I disagree

if you do not agree with me, then why not tip the server who fills your water glass at the buffet ..... or the guy dishing up your burger at the 'private island'

A pot of coffee and a couple of pastries is $2-3 worth. Hot items are more like $5

But why the difference, they still only make one trip with one tray.

It's not based on price because it's free.

Room service personnel are NOT included in the tipping pool like others (including the people who refill your water in the WJ). You would tip them just as you would tip room service personnel in a hotel.

While many do tip for room service Royal makes no mention of tipping for room service.

Gratuities

Q: Are there other gratuities to be expected during my cruise?

A: 18% gratuity is automatically added to bar service beverages, mini bar items, and spa & salon services. These gratuities may be itemized on your receipt.

Last week I just read that room service for anything will be $7.95.:mad:

I do NOT know where I read it, what cruise line it was on or anything else.

Sorry, but the mandatory tipping fee is somewhere.

Any one else see this? Not even sure it was Cruise Critic.

Seems kinda high, but did catch my attention.

I know that Celebrity charges $4.95 for room service orders between 11 PM and 6 AM (not Suites). I'm sure that most of the lines will pursue this money grab in due course.

I believe even Royal charges $3.95 for after hours room service. Not sure if this is considered a tip or a service fee?

Maybe this is what you saw. A sliding scale up to $7.95 and some free breakfasts:

Is Norwegian Cruise Line now charging for room service?

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced an enhanced room service menu. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast, in addition to a wider variety of options available 24 hours. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 USD will be added to each order placed (Morning coffee, continental breakfast and orders placed by guests sailing in The Haven will not attract a charge)*. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day.

*Prices subject to change.

More items, heavier plate and they have to get it there before it cools down. Worth an extra buck or two.
