What happened to late night eats and Mexican Midnight Buffett

Recommended Posts

That would be news to me as well, but I could see it happening. The midnight gala buffet was discontinued because of all the effort and not enough people eating it (though they still have it on Journey cruises). I think most cruises there are not enough consuming to justify these late night buffets.

Some one will be along to correct me if I am wrong but I think Midnight Gala Buffets were discontinued in 2012.

Late night eats are still around

Very limited offerings and in one of the small buffet areas of the Lido. On the Breeze it was at the Pizza place. I really didn't care for that arrangement as the line got very long. On the Pride there was a small area of one of the buffets. And on the Splendor it was where the tandoori was served on the aft deck. My point in listing these locations is they are easy to miss. The times and location were listed in the FunTimes. I can't remember if it began at 11 or 11:30. In all honesty I went for the brownies.

Now that you made me think about it none of the 4 cruises I had last year with Carnival had the Late Night Mexican Buffet. In fact I don't remember them holding the Fiesta Deck party which usually proceeds it, though I do remember other deck parties like Glo Night, Beach Blanket, and the 80's night. These seemed to be held earlier in the evening then on previous cruises and the theme would move off the Lido deck and head down to the dance club after an hour or so.

The late nights eats was alive and well as of Nov. 2016. The difference I remember here though is on our earlier cruises it was at the Lido pool area grill. For the last 6 or so cruises it has been at a buffet station closer to the Pizza counter which tends to be further aft.

What I really miss and have not seen since about 2012 is the wandering finger food servers that would come down to the casino around 11 pm/mid-night on Elegant Nights. They used to come around with little 2 bite slices of pizza or deli sandwiches, the big hot dogs or chicken tenders cut to cocktail size on toothpicks, cookies and sometimes crudites. Which honestly is not much different than what I've seen at the late night eats, but was convenient instead of leaving the casino to satisfy a case of the midnight munchies.

We noticed the Mexican late night buffet disappeared with the opening of the Blue Iguana Cantina. It didn't matter that the Cantina wasn't open at that time. Ships without the Cantina still had the Mexican buffet. There must have been some agreement not to serve the Mexican buffet on any ship with the Blue Iguana Cantina. Most of the ships now have the Cantina.

They have changed deck party's now! The Mexican buffet went with the blue iguana fiesta deck party! But they have done away with it. Still have late night eats on vista when I got off 2 weeks ago usually just cookies and sandwiches!

we just returned from the Glory and had an excellent time!

Two things that I noticed missing was the late night eats Buffett and the midnight Mexican Buffett night. Are these two things that Carnival has done away with?

Carnival is saving us from ourselves. Good move on their part IMO.

Did Carnival announce the Mexican Buffet night was discontinued? It was a popular event on both the Inspiration and Imagination over the six cruises I sailed on those ships between 2014 - 2016. The sliced strawberry fiesta shortcake with whipped cream was amazingly delicious. Sad to hear this is no longer on the events schedule across the fleet. This is one more Carnival loss for me to add to column B on my ledger of pro's and con's.

Ok, all of this sounds amazing but I haven't seen it (either in person or listed anywhere). The only thing I can usually get that late is standing in line for 30 mins for a slice of pizza at pizza pirate! Roving food in the casino would be the bee's knee's!

They did this twice on our Premier cruise in October on the Fantasy but I don't remember if they were elegant nights or not. I've been on 8 cruises over the past 3 years. Only saw late night casino munchies that one time.

Just another reason to take off the blinders and see what else is available.....such as O'Sheehan's Pub, open 24 hours a day on the NCL Escape. https://entrepreneursodyssey.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/OSheehans-Bar-Grill-menu-on-NCL-Escape.jpg

Oh lordy lordy! If I had that kind of selection all night I would be unable to fit through the doors to get off and would be stuck on the ship forever!

It's a limited menu, but it covers the bases after midnight real well between nachos, wings, burgers, dogs and even a shepherd's pie.

we had the Mexican fiesta last night on the spirit and they had a nacho bar set up. 4 different types of nacho chip sour cream salsa and a spicy red sauce. As for midnight buffets they are reserved for the journeys cruise.

Those lines are really long for the fiesta.

Surprised it wasn't as crowded for us... I guess cause they didn't announce it or people didn't want nachos at midnight (I find that hard to believe because nachos are a great drinking food! Lol)

We were on the Fascination recently and they had both the midnight Mexican buffet and Late Night Eats (burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries, etc.) available in addition to pizza. Worth noting, Fascination does not have Blue Iguana.

Is there a charge for eating there? That menu looks yummy!
