Up next....the Grandeur

Recommended Posts

Okay then. So you joined CC just to write a negative review???? Really?

The Grandeur is in no way, shape or form "dirty, unkept and in need of refurbishment". She has a great, friendly staff and you will constantly see that staff cleaning, painting and keeping up the ship.

You will definitely be able to relax and unwind. The solarium is wonderful and adult only.

I was merely reporting MY experience. No need to be so RUDE. I can see why u liked it so much.

We have sailed Grandeur several times and have always enjoyed it. The crew is the best!

It does, however show its age in places. The Solarium pool shows has some rust. There is no live music there but there is low volume easy listening.

We always choose interior cabins and those could use some updates; e.g., carpet is worn as well as bathroom shower curtains.

Are you saying there's no live orchestra for the shows? No Schooner Bar perfomer? No other venues with live music around the ship in the evening?

In the Solarium yes, there is no live music.

But plenty of live music on board. From steel drum band by the outside pool. To a house band playing in various venues. Last year and due of violin and guitar.

Were you on the July 13th Bermuda/Bahamas 9 night last year? I think I sailed with you.

Anyways, there are plenty of quiet places. The Solarium is usually quiet and I've never seen music played in there. The ONLY time I've ever seen the place partying was New Years Eve and it was kind of treacherous dancing to music with a wet deck.

Viking Crown Lounge is usually quiet too. Outdoors, if you look Fore or Aft, you'll be far enough away from the music of the mid-deck that it shouldn't be a problem, especially if you go a deck up to deck where you'll have a floor between you and the source of music.

The atrium is hit or miss unfortunately as well as the Seven Seas lounge. The Schooner lounge area is usually quiet during the day, but they have trivia there sometimes when not in the Atrium.

So, yeah, there are plenty of quiet areas.

South Pacific Lounge.

We will be taking our 4th cruise on the Grandeur in October. I find this ship to be the perfect size for us. Easy to navigate with a phenomenal crew. Sure she is aging, but aren't we all? :-) Some of my favorite "quiet" places are:

Card Room - Deck 4

South Pacific Lounge - Deck 6

Observatory - Deck 10.

Are you sure you were on the same Grandeur as the rest of us.?

As I said in a previous post, we were on her in February and there wasn't a loose piece of paper anywhere. Yes, she sure isn't a new ship and several things needed some work, but in no way was she 'dirty, unkempt' or in severe need of refurbishing'.

PLUS, we are as far from 'party animals' as one can get. We ALWAYS opt for the quietness of the promenade deck and on the Grandeur there were many, many seats and lounges on that deck where you couldn't hear anything except the ship cruising thru the waters. There is absolute no music, no noise, no yelling, NOTHING, so I really doubt you were even on the same ship as everyone else.

Your post is baloney and anyone considering the Grandeur should just ignore it as whimsical nonsense.

Cheers

Len

Thanks for your input. I am going to believe the experienced long time members of CC however. Dirty ship? Have never been on a dirty ship in all of my many cruises. That statement alone tells me you’re full of baloney.

FYI I have been on 65 cruises so i would say that I am an experienced cruiser. Obviously i just have higher standards then u! I guess that is why they make coach class.

Whoa!

Nice culture-war insult.

So, please tell us about those 65 cruises. On which cruise lines?

My husband and I would like to take my nephew, 14, on a cruise. I just don't know which cruise line or ship to take him on. He has been through a very rough time and I want him to have the time of his life. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A whole different perspective under FAMILY CRUISES:

I copied and pasted to show

Originally posted by stretchcruz: Ariesknowbest you've been on 65 cruises. I'm surprised that you are asking for advice. Is it because you specifically don't know which cruise lines cater to teens?

Me: You took the words right out of my mouth. If you read all the threads by this poster (even has posts on CARNIVAL). Really? Aren't you upper crust as you stated on my thread?

Ariesknowbest: You also posted this in February:

I feel the same way about cruising the Mass Market cruise lines. I call them WalMart on Water. I am a Diamond Plus Member and will probably never cruise on RCCL again.....subpar food, service and experience. Not worth my vacation time.

Hmmmmm...Kinda of strange you just booked the Anthem.

AND...THIS IS WHAT YOU POSTED ON YOUR ROLL CALL:

My hubby and I will be on this sailing. As Diamond Plus Members we love cruising with Royal Caribbean.

Everything you write is a lie...just not sure which one's are the lies, as everything contradicts everything you say. I'm OUT.

One more BIG thank you to all of the dedicated CC's here, that have been so helpful to me.

We were on the Granduer for our first cruise with RCL a couple of years ago. We were on it again in January 2018 and will be back again in January 2019. The crew are great, the ship is Grand(uer), the food was fine, the casino was friendly and the entertainment was talented. The March cruise that was mentioned could have been due to a spring break crowd. We did not see any of the conditions mentioned 2 months prior.

Each cruise is its own unique animal. You know what my worst cruise ever was? Jewel of the Seas. This was also my first Royal Caribbean cruise, so it soured me for a couple of years. You know what the BEST overall cruise for me was? Grandeur of the Seas. I've sailed across 5 lines so far and its not really the cruise line, though they prioritize certain experience.

I did a live thread with pictures and photos about 3 months ago, I can find my thread if you want more insight to it.

Personally, I think the Vision class and Radiance class are icons of more traditional cruising. Shows set against traditional dining times, that sort of thing. In some ways, I prefer them to the super large ships like the Freedom class and above. I have not done the Voyager class (That's in November), nor have i tried to Oasis class (that's next year).

Sorry to hear your worst cruise was on the Jewel as the Jewel was our best and got us addicted to cruising. Our next RCI sailing will be on the Grandeur in March. Really looking forward to it.

Soooo, we recently returned from the Carnival Victory. I actually wrote a short review for the first time. We have NEVER had a bad cruise until now. Even the other four Carnival cruises we have been on were pretty good.

Anyway, not much written about the Grandeur. I know it is an old, smaller ship than we are used to. (yes we love the mega ships..Oasis, Allure, Breakaway, Anthem). This will be a 12 day cruise and we are very much looking forward to it, but we are hoping it is a mostly relaxing cruise. My question is: Is the atmosphere more laid back, romantic, calm and generally friendly? Not looking for bells and whistles this time. Does this "fit the bill"? Any tips or opinions? Greatly appreciated.

We have been cruising since 1973 .The Grandeur has the nicest staff, very receptive to the needs of the passenhers. g

The Grandeur of the Seas is one of our favourite ships. We sailed on her in Nov. 2009 (11 days out of Baltimore) and we cannot say enough how wonderful and relaxing of a cruise this was. Although....Hurricane Ida delayed our return to Baltimore by nearly a day, RCL, the captain and the crew were outstanding in their support. We are still hoping to sail on her again.... soon ;)
