PetitIon RCCL-On Board Alcohol Package Fleet Wide

If you buy a drink package, and then get cut off by a bartender, what happens then?

Why is the idea of a drink package associated/assumed to be synonymous with drinking yourself into a coma? If the package is an economical alternative to paying individually, why not go for it. As already illustrated on this thread or another, you don't have to over indulge to make this a cost winner. And if this means I don't have to sign that darn receipt with each drink, I'm definitely in!!!

Do we have ANY details about what we're voting for?

Not as far as I could tell... it was rather vague and brought up two completely different issues. They seemed to be referring to Carnival's Bon Voyage ordering system that lets you order bottles of alcohol for anywhere from $50-100 per bottle. They also seem to be referring to the all inclusive drink packages (which run about $60/person per day or $120 per room minimum since everyone must participate) on some of the ships with typically older demographics than the caribbean sailings.

These were posted in October...........

The Beer Package: $29 per guest / day

All beer brands are included in this package, as well as a 25% discount on cocktails and wines.

The Classic Package: $39 per guest / day

Included in this package are all beer brands, as well as frozen drinks and cocktails in the house and call brand categories. A 25% discount is offered on all premium and specialty brand liquors, as well as all wines.

The Premium Package: $49 per guest / day

The Premium-brand liquors are included in this package, as well as frozen drinks and champagne cocktails. All beer brands, and wines by the glass up to $10 are included as well. A 25% discount is offered on specialty liquor brands, as well as wines by the bottle and glasses of wine price over $10.

Not sure if they're still accurate but we would purchase the Premium Package in a heartbeat. And I have to add................. You'll never see either one of us drunk!

I'm not convinced it would curb the smuggling ... it's easy to say that it would, but I would hazard that most people who smuggle would continue to do so ... even if a drink package would "save" you money, it would still be more than the cost of 2 litres of booze in your bag.

Have to agree with here Bob. They could cut the price of drinks in half, and people will still smuggle.

The package works on X because the pax are different on both lines.

The X crowd is a bit older, and more mature, or laid back. People that purchase the package there are not on a mission to make sure they get their moneys worth, and then some.

All I see with this on RC is more drunks around more kids, and more drunk kids if you get my drift.

This package was offered last winter season on Grandeur out of Colón, Panamá.

The demographics on those cruises all season long were 1,200 Colombians, 300 Venezuelans, 200 Panamanians, 400 Mexicans and a handful of Brits and Americans -- most of whom were under 35 on each sailing.

Despite the drink package being offered, in all of my cruises with RCCL, this one had the best-behaved, and most elegant, passengers we have seen in a long time on RCCL cruises -- and we went Easter week which meant lots of families and younger people because of the time off from work and school.

Kind regards,

Gunther and Uta

I vote yes. Why not?

- You can only drink so much before you black out. It's not as if drunks are going to get drunker. A bartender should always cut you off if necessary.

Sorry, this is why I'd say no.

I don't want to interact with drunks on their way to blacking out.

And, I can imagine the nasty scenes when bartenders try to cut off these drunks

I could see it might work on a long cruise, but a 4 day Caribbean - it would get ugly.

Need everyone who reads to this to reply with a yes.

Royal Caribbean has introduced an on board alcohol package on three ships. Its not cheap but its cheaper than bar charges if you indulge more than a couple of drinks a day.

Its a good deal for those clients that would like a more reasonable costing of their drinks, and

It'sgood for Royal Caribbean as it provides a reasonable alternative to those who would otherwise breach the no bringing booze on board policies.

Carnival is very successful with their Bon Voyage Packages. And, many guests are taking the package and abandoning sneaking booze aboard.

Need to promote this idea get alcohol package options on RCCL.

Rely with a yes.

Absolutely NO!!! Too many drunks anyway.

The problem with the package is that every adult in the cabin must take it.

YES

But

I'd like it to mirror the celebrity package.

If all adults in the cabin must purchase-at least make it worth the while for those who do not drink. Specialty coffee's, smoothies, milk shakes etc.. can add up so at least include them.

Heck-I'm in the minority but I'd love the whole cruise to be AI!!

I did a poll a while ago on this. Not that it got enough votes to change anything.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1380410&highlight=drink+packages

as for the comments of the increase of a drunk fest:

My thoughts are, since I frequent AI resorts

If all is included, meaning all types of beverages, folks will drink many non-alcoholic drinks too and spread them out evenly during the entire day.

Here comes the drama post:p

Royal offers a lounge that has 3 hours of free drinks for loyalty and suite guests. Over the years I have read thread after thread of SOME folks bragging how much they can suck down in 3 hours. I've read thread after thread of folks changing dinner times to be able to sit for those hours and pound them back. Folks talking about how much they need to drink to make up for the cost of a suite. Binge drinking can be worse then spread out over a full day.

Relax folks-those that will drink to the point of no return will do it weather there is a drink package or not!!;)

No.

If you want all-inclusive cruising, choose a line which offers it. If you want all-inclusive land vacation, choose a resort which offers it. All-inclusive drinks on what is commonly described as a "family friendly" cruise line is not what I want to see. Too easily abused, IMO.

And sorry - a bunch of yes's in agreement with you on an Internet discussion board is not going to sway them.

If you don't support the petition, you do not need to sign onto this thread. If you oppose any form of alcohol purchases, please start your own thread and call for responses and solicit support.

This is Not a poll.

As a petition it is not a poll to vote yay or nay. Nor is it a debate on the morality of alcohol consumption.

This thread is not about open bar, wild drunken frat parties, or any type of over consumption. It is promoting what is offerred on other cruise lines and some RCCL ships. Fixed price for a determined amount. Such as; purchase a bottle for your cabin, purchase coupon booklet for a number of drinks at a package discount, purchase a daily package of a fixed number of drink at a discount.

The OP is not specific on these or other options as individual preferences vary.

My preference is a purchase of a bottle in cabin. That way I can enjoy my balcony, quietly, while watching the waves, chatting with my better half, while enjoying a reasonably priced cocktail or rum and coke. I much prefer this over scrounging for a lounger or deck chair or sitting in a bar. If I wanted to be out on deck amongst the crowd or in a bar, then bar prices are fine. However, I got a cabin with a balcony for a reason. An alcohol package with a bottle in my room would just seem reasonable to me.
