sharonlacey Posted April 6, 2012 #626 Share Posted April 6, 2012 There is a Sandels on Dickerson Beach, went last year (on excursion thru the ship) the beach is great! But would take a cab instead of excursion. Beach is so close and you can stay a bit longer plus the money you save can buy lunch.;)
denamo Posted April 6, 2012 #627 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Radio, Absolutely great pictures of St. Maartin. So much better than last summer when it poured down rain the entire day we were in port! No too many happy sailors for that port. So glad you've got a great weather day. Have a great time in St. Maartin. :)
The Big Booper Posted April 6, 2012 #628 Share Posted April 6, 2012 It looks like the Silhouette is the only ship in today and that they are docked at the original pier. When we were in SXM in December 2011 with the Silhouette we had a total of six ships including the Epic. 18,000 people! Radio shouldn't have any trouble getting a car with five rental agency booths at the pier. Daily break over, back to tax season.

Welcome....we are definitely cruise junkies, even though we've only been on 3...it doesn't take much when you love to cruise.

RiciRicardo Posted April 6, 2012 #631 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Thanks for all the great posts and photos Radio. We are heading out for a B2B Transatlantic and Med in a couple of weeks and your photos have us really whipped up!!!!! St. Maarten is one of my personal favs, especially the Americas Cup Sailing excursion. Also you have us thinking about a beach holiday at Sandals in Antiqua, your photos did a real number on us. The beach looks so nice!!!!! How is the entertainment on board? I hear there is a great jazz band on board, the Manny Kelough All Stars. Will make sure we see the comedian too. FANTASTIC JOB RADIO, you have a real following, Radioheads all. PS. My wife is taking me out today to look at a new camera, one like yours. Rare Germancruiser Posted April 6, 2012 #640 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Radio your pictures are just amazing, I am soooo ready for our Transatlantic in about two weeks time. Anyway I am in Antigua early next year on board Eclispe- I so liked them pic´s of Sandals Grande, so I think we might try it and go there by cab. My question is- how much is it to stay there and use their facilities?? Did you book that day in advance?? Thanks and have a great time- take good care of Silli.... Rare Radio Posted April 6, 2012 Author #641 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Hello everyone. . . I had a wonderful day, with beautiful weather. Many of the Shops were closed as was advised to us from Celebrity. The Casinos were open, but about half of the shops at the Terminal were closed down. . . Since many of the shops were closed, as were most Government offices. . .There was no traffic. There was no traffic heading over to the Airport Maho Beach. . .and no traffic coming back. This is the first I have not sat through rough traffic while in transit to the Airport area. There were a ton of people over at Maho Beach. . .many were at the Sunset Bar and Grill. . .I saw a lot of Celebrity Towels over there. . .There were 2 heavy’s landing and a few Regional Jets while I was there. It was crazy busy with many observers. . . I took a drive over to Orient beach. . .(I stayed in the family side) By this time it was getting a little hot, and I wanted to take a dip. The water was beautiful, and warm. There may have been 30-40 vendors with beach bars, rentals, food and grill items. The parking was free on the Orient Village side, and many of the bars and beach restaurants have rest rooms, and changing facilities. You could buy many types of souvenirs there as well. . .just make sure to bring some cash with you. After I left Orient beach I was planning on going back to the Pier, but I decided to check out the Front Street shopping area. . This is where all of the big name shopping is that Celebrity is promoting. . .I would say about 80 % of the shops were closed, but there was still a lot of Cruise Ship passengers filling up the stores who remained open for business. . . I made it back to the ship in one piece by about 3:30. Celebrity Silhouette left the pier by about 4:45PM, and we will have 1467nm to get to Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, NJ. I have been real sleepy lately. . .I miss not being able to watch the news in the afternoon. . . I need to find out more about Silhouette, and I really need to re read the whole post because I think I may have missed a few questions. . .so I will try to answer as many as I can during the next 4 Nights. . .There are still many areas of the ship that I have not taken photos of. . . I will also try to see more of the entertainment. . .After 5 days in port. . .There was no way I could have stayed up longer. Here are a few pics from today. . . Thanks for tuning in ! Radio Ok, this is the last time I will see this friendly reminder I love the Sunset View Cabins. . . The Taxis are not metered and the Rates are very clear. I drove up to Pointe Blanche to get a photo of the beautiful Celebrity Silhouette. Around every turn the sights are better and better It look like a development might be in the works here. . . The View will be spectacular. .
Rare Radio Posted April 6, 2012 Author #642 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Here are a few more. . . Radio Lets be very careful. . . People were waiting for the jets. . . The Sunset Bar and Grill had much of the flight info listed There were many of the small regional jets and turboprops. There were a couple of big jets too. . . It was very fun to watch. . . ( I have more that I will post when I get home) .
Rare Radio Posted April 6, 2012 Author #643 Share Posted April 6, 2012 Here are just a few more for tonight. . .More pics tomorrow morning ! I have many more of the French side, and I will try to get a few more up beofre the Tuesday. . . Radio I drive over another hill, and had to pull over to take a photo. . . This feels like Hawaii ! I arrive to Orient Beach. . .and I can see why this is so very popular. The water was beautiful, and the sand was very soft. As I head back to the Ship. . .I cross the French / Dutch border. . . This will be the last time I can view Silhouette before my return to Cape Liberty. Ahh. . .this feels like an oasis ! Ice cold wet towels, and Ice cold water or punch. .
