MUTS - Crown - Unhappy

The best idea would be to drop MUTS completely. There are a good many passengers who hate the whole idea of movies at sea. I have often thought that if I could get away with tossing a sledge hammer at the screen (think Apple commercial), I would.

DON

No, that's nutty. We love MUTS.

On Crown - times for MUTS in evenings are 6.30 and 9.30pm. Not happy as on 2nd sitting which begins @ 8.15 p. and the films are appox 2hours long so effectively we have to choose between film or dinner in MDR. Spoke to CD. She said it was to give more choice for entertainment. But all it does is restrict choice for passengers on 2nd sitting. Not happy.

But apart from that - great cruise!!

Understand your opinion and agree. It seems like such an easy thing to fix! 6:00 and 9:00 or 7:30 and 10:30. What do you think?

We do early seating, so it works for us, but we will add this in our "comments" when we cruise and hope enough others do the same.

It seems like all the entertainment is arranged around first seating and for that reason, we have always stuck with that.

Boy that's for sure...I guess they figure that since there's such a demand for early seating, they should schedule that way... I think the new entertainment scheduling is pretty bad - hopefully the new fleet entertainment director can fix it.

I agree that everything seems to be arranged around first seating. Even the Platinum/Elite lounge is scheduled for early diners.

As for the movies, I haven't watched a movie (or tried to) on MUTS in many years. It started to rain, the sound was awful and it wasn't a pleasant experience. If I want to watch the movie, I just wait for the next day when it'll be shown on the cabin TV. Even then, I rarely even turn on the TV.

On our last two cruises (the only two we've had MUTS), the later show started at 10pm. As someone who's a night owl (which is troublesome during the school year as I have to get my daughter to a 7am class:eek:), I wouldn't mind being able to watch a late night movie outside. Unfortunately, our last cruise had a lot of rainy days and the time before, it was windy much of the time. I was going to drag my hubby out to see The Hunger Games on MUTS (it was listed as a MUTS movie on the first day Patters) as he hadn't seen it, but never saw it posted in the Patters on any night. Then my daughter said it was shown on MUTS at midnight one night for the teens. Later on, it was shown in the Princess theater, but my hubby was not to be found when I saw it in the Patters, so I went to watch it with a fruit plate -- oh, irony.

As for anytime dining, I think I would rather miss the entertainment than to do that again.

That reminds me of a quote from Marge Simpson: "Call me a killjoy, but I think that because this is not to my taste, no one else should be able to enjoy it."

I would much rather sit up on the open deck and watch a movie than stay indoors for a show, and I'm glad they offer different options. I don't know if I would want to watch a movie in my cabin, but up on the deck at night sounds like fun. I chose anytime dining and will eat around six or seven. Shouldn't be a conflict for me, but I see that would be an issue for the traditional late diners.

We like MUTS in the evening--usually we go to the later show. So far, it's been around 10 or so, which works out well, though even that can be a little tight if we want to go to any other entertainment and eat in the MDR. We usually do Anytime dining, so that makes it easier to plan evenings, and sometimes we enjoy the buffet instead--sometimes in the evening they have some really good meals.

I would not be happy with the last showing being at 9:15 or 9:30, so I hope that is not the new standard. If it is a movie we particularly want to see, and we miss it, at least it will be on the stateroom tv the next day, and sometimes in the Princess theater.

What's that called -- cutting off your nose to spite your face?

The original poster is disappointed that they will miss what's

on MUTS because of the schedule conflict with dinner, and

your solution is to eliminate MUTS. Very helpful.

Well, we're 3 weeks away from experiencing MUTS for the first time, so I will try to keep an open mind, but I have to say that the comments I've read on MUTS in other threads have left me wondering if we're going to have to exile ourselves to our verandah to escape the noise. More specifically, what I really don't understand is that in our current world, we are all absolutely surrounded by SCREENS: our cell phones, iPods, iPads, e-readers, our workstation PC's, laptops, home computers, and those flat-screen TV's. I'm just not getting why, in the peaceful, rare and unique atmosphere of being at sea on a cruise, people want still another screen, more aural and video digital intrusion into our lives. Just sayin'.

Because being able to sit in some lounge and play bingo is not available 24x7? Pretty much no matter what anyone mentions here, there will be someone who hates it.

I love MUTS, so this would be an issue with me. Shogun mentioned this same thing in his LIVE thread and the CD explained the decision. You might want to read his thoughts on it. Here's the link to that thread:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1907471

It's up to each CD how they schedule the entertainment. For example, I've been on cruises where there was one or two movies and the rest was concerts and football. Some people want more sports. On most ships they will replay the movies in the cabin the next day. On the Coral Princess in Alaska, where it was too cold to sit out and watch a movie, they didn't replay the movies in the cabin! Why?

To the person who said they should drop MUTS: For me, they could drop production shows and it wouldn't bother me at all. I think they're cheesy and a waste of time, but some people like them. I like that I can sit outside and watch a movie at night. Many of us like it.

I agree with you. I never attend production shows. Wouldn't bother me if they disappeared. However, a movie under the stars with a cocktail is fantastic! I much prefer to be outside than inside.

Love that quote. That's why there's several formats on radio stations, why people get cable or satellite TV so they can increase their choices, why libraries have many of different categories of books available to borrow. Because not every one has the same taste or the same idea of how they want to relax. Just because bingo bores me, I'm not going to advocate for that activity to disappear off cruise ships. I can simply go elsewhere on the ship.

No big deal that is why there is different strokes for different folks.

Don't think we have ever watched a movie on MUTS. We like early dining at a large table so that is what we have always done.

Just returned Sunday from the Golden. Had a great time as always. Only went ashore once in Skagway to Haines. Also could not tell you what was on MUTS.

That is what we like to do so we do it, think everyone should do the same.:)

Food was excellent by the way. If I had a complaint, which I really don't, it would be the 30 min shows in the Princess Theater or scheduling the "most traveled" at 7PM.

My wife and I NEVER watch "regular" television. I have a couple of small antennas (turned off the cable TV maybe 12 years ago) and we could watch some things if we wanted to. I actually watched part of a football game last Sunday. In our opinion you could get rid of all the regular TV programming but that really wouldn't suit most people.

I like MUTS. On our last cruise I got sucked into Casablanca during the day. I hadn't seen that one in a very long time and, when I walked past and saw it playing, I was just totally sucked into it. As I was watching I was offered the afternoon milk and cookies. It was nice.

People complain about the noise but the only place I found it to be obnoxious (Star Princess) was on the Port side where the smokers were sitting. It was actually annoying there but then I'm not a smoker... It would suit me if they also did completely away with the smoking area but, again, that wouldn't suit everybody.

We don't patronize the casino. You could do away with that as well. I bet that would get some folks pretty upset.

I'm glad there are choices. If people don't like MUTS and find it intrusive there are a LOT of other places to go on the ship.

I think Princess could do away with the casino and convert it to a movie theater. I believe it was Regal-1 and Crown-1 that actually had dedicated movie theaters. It's so funny, but I know people who won't cruise to Hawaii because the casino closes for four days.;) Anyway, their enjoyment of the casino doesn't take away from my enjoyment of MUTS.:)

I'm glad they offer different options too - I'm not a fan of MUTS but if having it on board helps to even out the passenger load across multiple locations, then I'm all for it. Funny thing is that anytime I have ventured up on deck when MUTS was playing at night, attendance was sparse.

Day 5 and the late showing of the MUTS is for the first time at 10.30!!! At last we have the choice between eating (in the MDR) and film. BUT..... the weather has now turned much cooler!!!!!!

Cannot win!!

They provide blankets. I've watched late MUTS movies on Alaskan cruises. Yes, it's cold, but toughing it out is part of the fun. :D

I loved watching Mamma Mia while we were sailing in the Med. near Greece where the story takes place. DH is a bigger movie buff than I am, but I love curling up in a blanket and falling asleep under the stars while he enjoys the movie-- as long as he wakes me for the milk and cookies.

We're taking our first Caribbean cruise in 30 years in January, and I'm looking forward to warm nights under the stars. We usually take ta's, and its usually too cold on the sea days for MUTS.
