Guest Ticket Booklet/Smoking Regulations

Recommended Posts

Exactly yoglmax. You don't know how I feel when I come into contact with cigarette smoke or a cigar. Unless your the one with the allergy then please don't say its an overreaction. I do my best to remove myself but if someone is in a non-smoking area and starts to smoke then it should be the responsibility of the smoker to move to the designated area not mine. If I am in a smoking area by mistake I do my best to remove myself as quickly as possible to the non smoking area.

This is the reason I would go to a crew member so as not to get into a fight with the smoker so the crew member can enforce the policy.

Excellent post!! I'm also really sensitive to cigarette smoke. Growing up with a chain smoker didn't help. I also avoid smoking areas and respected the old policy. On our next RCCL cruise I will report smokers not following the rules, if necessary. BTW, my dislike and hatred towards cigarettes (not smokers) is really strong, my wonderful dad died from a smoke related cancer. This issue its just too personal.:mad:

IF you have been on an RCI cruise that embarked Jan 1 or after what did you actually observe?

please do not post what you wish, what it was, what you heard from a friend of a friend or what you read on CC.

Off Oasis, yesterday, Jan 11th

Many smokers jammed together on one side of pool deck

maybe 5 tables/chairs with ashtrays.

Did smell smoke from balconies. Not overwhelming.

Casino heavy to moderate smoke in air, and you could smell it in hallways entering casino.

I am not a smoker, but have family members that like to smoke on ship.

I feel they changed the rules after people booked. Fair ?

I feel I stated the facts, as I saw them.

Thank you for this post. I think this is what some of us smoker's with upcoming cruises are looking for. Details like "maybe 5 tables" help us to set our expectations.

I'm sure it will take some time for the individual ships to address those who smoke on their balconies.

We call the smoking part of the deck "cigarette city" and try to avoid it at all costs. The smell there is disgusting.

I have noticed that the non-smoking areas have increased, and the smoking areas decreased. I used to smoke and noticed that most of the ship was non-smoking. If I did not have a balcony before when I smoked, I had a long haul to a designated area for a puff. I think smokers become angry because while smoking is not healthy, is not illegal. Give them a good area to smoke, just like a non-smoker has a good area free of smoke, and there will be no problem. Keep shrinking the smoking areas, and you will see more people breaking rules.

can't have a smoking post without all the sky is falling people with severe allergies. (mostly a physiological problem) I tried to have thread to determine reality of how the smoking policy was actually being enforced but the anti's jumped in.

as far as I can tell there is no 'rule' about taking a crap on my balcony and letting it age in the sun.

Well yes, yes it is most definitely a physiological problem.

By the clearly intended sarcasm and vexatiousness of your post however I take it you meant to say psychological problem?

This is the problem. The smoke does not stay in the smoking area.

Thanks for your report. Like a couple of the PPs, I am a smoker (who made the mistake of booking our cruise just before they announced the new policy) who is just looking for the facts, not unsolicited snide remarks and nastiness.

So according to this report, RCCI's promises of easy access to designated smoking areas with sufficient tables, chairs and ashtrays was just another big fat lie. About what I expected. It would seem that this will, indeed, be our last cruise on RC.

I would see how it evolves. The policy just changed, they need to see how crowded these areas are going to be and hopefully, will adjust. If they don't, I wouldn't stay with a cruise line that doesn't meet my needs either.

Royal has a policy that kids must be potty trained to use the pool. If you don't follow the policy and your caught then your in for the consequences.

My point is a policy can be like a law. If you abide by the policies then everyone will have a great time.

Another rule that Royal is lax in enforcing, I have seen diapered children in the main pool, reported it and it is like talking to deaf ears.

If you happened to be next to me on the balcony smoking and I paid for the balcony under the impression that their new rule went into effect on January 1st,2014 you would be hearing it from me. I have a severe allergy to tobacco and can go into a wheezing attack. I booked the balcony because they were deemed non-smoking.

I would be sure you would be thrown off the ship for violating the rule. I hope you know the rules and follow them. I know to stay away from smoking areas. How dare you do this because there could be someone with a severe allergy to tobacco who can get very sick from the smoke.

Let's just see how far you want to take this. I emailed Mr.Goldstein telling him how happy I am about the new non smoking policy. If I find out that people are smoking in areas that are deemed non-smoking I will be speaking with the Hotel Director and take it up to the captain if need be.

Not to be rude but as someone with an allergy to tobacco who in good faith booked a balcony knowing it was non smoking only to find someone like you trying to break the law. If I found out that the room attendant provided you with an ashtray to use on your balcony and its against the policies I would be sure your room attendant also gets into trouble for breaking the law.

I'm sorry to come off as rude but as a non-smoker smokers need to know that there is a true allergy to smoke. When I inhale tobacco I go into a wheezing fit, my eyes burn and start to water and my throat gets dry. I know what areas to avoid on the ship and I do my best to avoid them.

This is like a peanut allergy if you were told by the flight crew not to eat nuts then you would follow that order and not question it for fear the passenger can die from inhaling peanuts.

How would you feel if you told me please don't eat peanuts out on my deck because I have a severe allergy to nuts and I continued to eat them and you almost died? I would stop eating my peanuts and apologize because I know you could almost die. The same goes for smoking I would hope you would be kind and follow the rules.

Quite the tirade.

I would like to offer you a word of caution. I would be very, very careful about your actions. If you are going to confront and harass a fellow cruiser about their alleged smoking, or harangue a steward or other hotel staff into doing it for you, I would be very, very sure of their guilt before doing so. Unless you actually visually see the person smoking, you cannot know that the smoke is coming from the balcony directly beside you. Smoke drifts. It could be from several cabins down or even above you. When a ship is sailing at 20+ knots, there is no telling where that smoke could be coming from.

If I had someone banging on my cabin door waking me at 2 in the morning and some wild woman having a fit at me (or a steward doing it for her) you can absolutely bet that I would be calling security and demanding that SHE be the one thrown off the ship. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

In my guest ticket booklet it says no smoking in the vicinity of the jogging tract. I think all of 5 is the track, so I'm guessing no smoking period.

...as far as I can tell there is no 'rule' about taking a crap on my balcony and letting it age in the sun.

RCI's Guest Conduct Policy forbids:

Inappropriate or Abusive Behavior

Inappropriate or abusive behavior is not permitted. This includes: uninvited physical contact, solicitation, harassment, vandalism, theft, violence, use of fake/false identification, underage drinking (see alcohol section below), providing alcohol to those under the allowed age (see alcohol section below), possession of illegal substances/items, placing materials (including signs, banners, decorations, etc.) anywhere on the exterior of the ship, placing materials anywhere on the interior of the ship (including stateroom doors, along corridors, etc.) which may be deemed by ship management as inappropriate, or any other illegal or offensive conduct.

I think what you cited would be covered under "placing materials...on the exterior of the ship...which may be deemed by ship management as inappropriate"

To anyone who's been on Independence since the changes, is the smoking side of deck 4 and pool deck the starboard side? We would like to book a balcony and want to avoid the smoking side altogether.

I read somewhere that the smoking sections were on the port side . . . hope this helps

You will see alot of people violating it and smoking on their balconies in Europe and Asia. GUARANTEED.
How can you guarantee that? Please explain and back up with facts. On all European sailings I have taken, I have not experienced one person breaking the rules for where they can smoke. Many European countries have strict non smoking rules now and have for a number of years like the UK.

Your post is without fact and an insult to Europeans.

It was rampant on my Azamara cruise. That is a fact. So that's how.

Now..... Good Day Sir!
