Lanyard?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all. New to RCI. I know they are not the most "fashionable" thing to wear, but do people wear lanyards for their sea passes? On Disney we were given some to use, but I don't think this is the case here? I saw some cheap on eBay and was debating in getting them. Quite a few of my outfits don't have pockets, so if u don't use a lanyard, how do you carry your pass around? I also thought I read on another post that kids can get them free at the kids club? Thanks all!

People will tell you how tacky they look but if you want to wear a lanyard, go ahead and do it. We do and so do hundreds of others no matter what the snobs ... Sorry, well dressed, think.

We are wearing personalized lanyards on our cruise in two weeks. :D I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but my kids are very excited to have one with their name on them, and this way I know they won't lose their Sea Pass!

"Tachy" is a judgement call. Judgemental people can judge me as tachy all they want. I always wear one. I find them convenient. Lots of really cute ones available these days. All colors, with beads and stones, and themes. I even found a few with sport team logos on them for hubby.

We wear lanyards during the daytime. Can be put in a purse or pocket when dressed up. It isn't an either or situation. You don't have to wear the lanyard every time you're out of the cabin. It sure makes it easier to carry when you are in an outfit with no pockets which happens a lot for me.

I don't wear my room key around my neck in a hotel....so I don't do it on a ship, either. How do you carry your room key in a hotel? Well, do that on the ship, too! I carry a small purse, with my comb, lipstick, tissues, etc.....don't you need that sort of stuff?

Yes...I think it looks tacky and like you're at a convention....maybe that's the look you're going for!

I agree. I carry a small purse with my card, lipstick, and camera. I usually use a purse that has a long strap so it can go on my shoulder or cross-body.

You should be able to get one free in the casino. We did on the Grandeur and Explorer.

As for being "tacky", that's in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't consider walking around a ship carrying a purse, but those of you who want to, go for it. However, be prepared that others may think you're the tacky one. Again, eye of the beholder.

I used to think lanyards were a bit tacky and a lot dorky. So on a cruise where there were a bunch of us gal pals, I bought some "blingy" lanyards for each of us as a joke. Oh wow. They were so HANDY. I have to say, I may be a new lanyard fan!

Possibly not really what you'd be looking for, for a teenage boy in a swimsuit!!

I just got off the Explorer of the Seas on Saturday, and I can say for sure that there were PLENTY of people wearing lanyards. The gift shop on board even sold these lanyards covered in rhinestones that seemed to be a huge hit. Nobody will judge you for wearing a lanyard!

Not everyone feels that they need to create a "look" when they're on vacation! If you feel that a lanyard is tacky, by all means carry your pass elsewhere--and if you don't, then wear a lanyard! :D

If you want to bow down to pressure from the fashion police of cruising i guess then you need to dress and act like them. I will carry it around my neck as it is the most convenient way for me. I dont plan on wearing a suit and tie while sitting around the pool etc. It gets me how this question is asked alot of times and the responses from people telling you how YOU will look. WHO cares but yourself. If you are the kind of person that will get up in the morning, spend 2 hours in front of the mirror and walk around the ship in high heels then you may need to take heed of the fashion critics who will be lineing the halls and rails to laugh at you as you walk by.

my 02 as usual

I think wearing a lanyard is up to each individual. Personally, I find it easier to do a lanyard than to carry a purse everywhere, and I don't worry about people who look down on me for not being fashionable. If my wearing a lanyard makes someone feel superior to me, I wonder why they are wasting their vacation time judging me. My adult daughter had never used a lanyard until this past year and would say, "Mom!" On our last cruise, she struggled with keeping up with her sea pass, young son, and supplies she needed for him and decided to get one of the glittery lanyards. She told me later that she never realized how much freedom it gave her on the cruise. She has now decided that using the lanyard makes life easier and less stressful. As someone else said, you can always put the lanyard in a purse, etc. in the evenings. I truly recommend that you decide on what works best for you, not on someone's else's opinion that it is "tacky."

All my pants and shorts have pockets, and I don't have any without them, so I don't really understand the issue. However, perhaps someone in your party might have pockets, and you can ask them to carry your card for your? Pockets have only been around for a few thousand years, so I understand that a few manufacturers may not include them, but you might want to consider avoiding these manufacturers for your cruise attire.
