RCCL Fan Solo on Carnival Sunshine

Recommended Posts

Wonderfully fun! Had a great time & this review made me relive the fun we had! Til next time! :D

Hey Maureen, enjoyed your review! I need to look into that MSC cruise. Would love to cruise with you again. I had a blast on the Allure.

I'm supposed to cruise Christmas week but I'm not feeling sharing a cabin! LOL!!:D I've been scoping the Allure trying to see if I can find another heck of a deal like last year's cruise.

Hey girls! Just sayin', you're both from Texas, you might be able to cruise together at some point. I can vouch for both of you! ;)

Cynthia, I have RCCL points that expire in December, so I will be looking for a good solo deal then. I still have your email if I find anything. :)

Hey Maureen and Cynthia, I am glad to see you are both still enjoying cruising. I would also like to find a deal like we had last year on the Allure. That was a great cruise.Natalie

Maureen, I do have a question for you. This will be my first time sailing Carnival just as it was yours. I have sailed Royal Caribbean almost exclusively. As someone who has sailed Royal Caribbean before, how do you think the two lines compare? Did you notice a big difference in any particular area?

Hey Nat, It's good to hear from you, I hope you enjoy your cruises.

Gary, I actually asked myself that several times. I would look around and say, If I didn't know this was Carnival, would I think I was on RCCL? And, every time, the answer was yes, the ships seemed the same, the people seemed the same. I had a few disappointments with the food, but, that is always the case, I suppose. The good news is there is plenty of food elsewhere. I cruise with a very open mind, looking for the good stuff, not looking to nitpick the bad stuff. And, when things do go wrong, I know it will be funny stuff for my review (like the flood at brunch, no sense being mad, she didn't do it on purpose). Have a great time and be sure to come back and write a review. :D

I haven't been on CC for a while, but being the insomniac that I am, I decided to check it out tonight (or this morning:D)

I'm so glad I came across your review. I'm a newbie to cruising, so your review was informative and entertaining.

I love the food Porn pics as I am a self proclaimed foodie;). Now I'm going to read your other reviews because sleep is overrated.:p

Hi Maureen, and thanks for the shout out over at the RCI board about your Carnival review!!! OMGosh, another FABULOUS Maureen cruise review:D So glad you had such a wonderful cruise (how could you not with your sense of humor) and my favorite picture was the family group picture. Of course you fit right in--you were all in blue!

I am really excited that you will be doing the MSC Divinia soon. We are seriously considering that ship after we move to FL next year. I want to try a "European experience." I can't wait for your take on it;):D

Loved your review!!! I was scared of trying the Sunshine because so many folks say it's crowded, but it looked anything but that in your pictures. It's back on the list, after our Conquest cruise next year :)

Now I'm going to go hunt down your other reviews... love your writing style!

Hello everybody! This is my third review here on Cruise Critic and my first on Carnival. Cruising is definitely my passion. When I'm not cruising, I'm planning and reading reviews and gathering information. That is why I decided to start writing reviews, to pay it forward for all the people that helped me learn more.

First, a little about me, I began cruising in 1991 and have tried to do 3 or 4 cruises every year since then. I mostly sail with RCCL, but, I have tried HAL, Celebrity, Premier, Norwegian, etc. I have only sailed Carnival one other time, in 1993, the Carnivale, if anyone remembers her.

I don't remember much about that sailing, except the CD was Scottish and we hit a rogue wave one night, which caused all the glasses on the tables to crash to the floor and the lights to go out. Hmmm, maybe that's why I never sailed CCL again. :p

Anyway, after my last cruise in December, I booked my dream cruise to Alaska this summer on the Radiance of the Seas. Two days after I booked it, I found out the independent pharmacy I worked for had been bought out by a large, national chain. You know the one, it's right there, at the corner. It was a very difficult time for me as I didn't know what was going to happen to me or my clients. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my friend, Dale, MrFunInTheSun, for talking me off the ledge during this horrible time. I did end up getting hired by the chain, but, at much less money. So, I made the difficult decision to cancel the Alaska trip. My heart just was not into all the planning and expense that an Alaska cruise entails. But, I knew I needed to get away and started looking for a good deal to the Caribbean.

I found out from the solo board that Carnival was doing several cruises with no solo supplement. I had been wanting to try CCL again, especially since they sail out of Baltimore and Charleston, 2 nearby ports. Combine that with the never ending winter we just had and the decision was made, a 5 nighter on the Sunshine. :) Now, this cruise was advertised as an Eastern Caribbean cruise. I'm not sure how that could be, since our ports were Key West, Nassau and Freeport. Never one to quibble, (yeah, right), I signed up for an inside guarantee.

What a great review ...we are on the Sunshine in August 2014 .. you gave us a great insight to the Ship...

Thanks again

Danny

Hmmmm, You may be onto something. A lot of the plates only allow 6 letters, but, wrk2crz is available and oh, so true! I tried to post a pic of it here, but, I couldn't. The DMV website wouldn't let me copy it.

I have ONACCRZ in NH

:D:D GREAT review!! :D:D

Thanks so much for the fun lighthearted review! You seem like a wonderful person and I would love to be on a ship with you! We are sailing on the Sunshine in Dec 2014 and after sailing the Breeze the past 2 yrs I am a tad worried it just wont compare, so I'm reading every review I can find...yours truly has set my mind at ease! Going to read your review for the Allure next (we hope to sail Allure or Oasis next yr).:)

See all that luggage? See how heavy it is? And, now, I had added 2 bags from the drugstore that dares not speak its name.

 Where is the purple suitcase? Did it do something wrong to be left in the hall closet at home? :(

I have just read all of your reviews & although I am not planning any cruises on the ships that you were on, I got sucked in by your awesome Attitude & witty sense of humor. Thank you, now I know that I can sail alone & not have to worry about having a cruise partner. I am headed to Alaska next month with a friend but did not cruise for a while because I had no one to go with me. I will be on the lookout for decent solo fares leaving out of my homeport Galveston.
