Has anyone been on a sailing where there was a HUGE group for a private event???

A couple of years back, we were on a cruise with a large group of 15 year old girls and all of their extended families celebrating their quint-cie celebration. I recall there were nearly 200 individuals in this group. Each day, the girls had different activities, clothes, presentations, etc. We saw them all over the ship but rarely at the pool. Every evening at dinner (late seating) they had some sort of presentation/demonstration before the "showtime" of the waiters. One evening, they were presented to the captain and head staff outside of the casino area.

Although I was aware of their presence, they were not a bother. Actually, we found them quite entertaining with all the clothes and drama of 15 year olds.

That said, having taken a chartered cruise with bands, activities, etc. and knowing what all can be scheduled and arranged, I can imagine that having to share a cruise with 700 folks in one group might be a bit intimidating. I have seen small groups of folks take over areas as well and make it less than pleasant to be in their company.

I strongly suspect that since this is a radio station, they will be providing their own entertainment. I also suspect that they will use the available venues but at times that do not compete with Carnival and their productions. Remember, Carnival wants to make money and please the other 1300 guests.

Go with an open mind. You will probably know they are there but your enjoyment of your trip will not be impacted.

Yes, on the website for the cruise itself it says that they will have entertainment, comedians special parties in the lounges. I guess Pitbull is supposed to be on it too.

As some have pointed out, with that many people it might be lighter in other areas of the ship. I am hopeful. I want to continue relaxing and not be listening to loud music as they broadcast from the ship or something. I guess we will see. I have a porthole so maybe there will not be much action up that way?

Don't count on Pitbull performing. I won a bud light cruise a couple years ago and he was one of the headliners He skipped out of his performance 2 years in a row.

In 2008 & 2010 I went with a large (300) group of Red Hatters... If you think drag queens were tough, try being overrun by a whole gaggle of peri- and menopausal women with hot flashes!

We tried to not impact anyone's cruise but I did hear complaints from other passengers about some of our group being pushy and obnoxious... Someone else defended us (not knowing I was with the Red Hat group) by saying we weren't so bad, we were just more obvious since we were all wearing purple dresses and bid gaudy red hats!

In 2012 we were cruising with a large group of Elvis fans. Like most folks here, we were not displaced, forgotten by staff, or put out because of the Elvis group. I as hoping to see the Elvis impersonators perform. But, the she's we're only for the group....:o

On one of my NY-Canada cruises there was a very large Indian group which was large enough to have the lower level of the midship dining room. I was upstairs and noticed that they had special foods served which I would have loved to have had. I actually have ordered meals from the Indian menu (Don't know if they still offer that on Carnival above and beyond on the nightly vegetarian Indian offerings and the Tandoor for lunch). The group did have special events which meant certain venues were closed to the other passengers but I don't remember throwing a hissy fit so it couldn't have ruined my cruise. I remember they had some sort of competition, like "Mrs. India" and the saris I saw on some of the women were spectacular.

I'm loving this thread and all of your responses! Giggled out loud a few times.

I found out one leg of my back to back next year will have a very large singles group on board. Just so happens they are in my age group and I'm single. Bonus. I know I can't attend their official functions but I'm excited to know that there will be some other singles on board :D.

A few years ago I was on a cruise with RCL and our first port was St. Martin. We got to Orient beach and were soon asked to move down to the end of the beach because they were expecting a large group. Soon, the group began arriving, two at a time. All guys. All with our ship's towels. Turns out a gay travel agency had booked their customers on our cruise. I checked their website when we got home and they had nearly 500 cruisers on the ship.

Our first cruise was on the Destiny in 1999 when she was first in Miami. There was a huge group of workers and their families from a computer outfit. All of the women had big blue bags with the computer logo on them. Every place we went, those bags were sitting out in the walkways.

We got to St. Croix, got off the ship and the lady that was their ring leader (*see next paragraph) had comandeered all of the taxis for her group. Back on the ship, there were lots of areas roped off for them.

*By the end of the cruise, just about everybody that wasn't in that group was ready to deck their ring leader. She was the most obnoxious person we had ever met. If you even walked past one of their roped off areas, you had to deal with her.

Once went on a cruise with 500 female secretaries from Wall Street....it was fun

Always be careful about pre judging a large group based upon their affiliation....the ones you think would be objectional to you, might in fact be the nicest fellow cruisers you will ever encounter...the ones you think would be very acceptable, could be the biggest buttheads in the history of cruising

Your group on your cruise will probably peacefully coexist

It is actually not Pitbull, but Pitbull Toddler, the radio hosts rock cover band.

weve been on several cruises with large groups

The worst one was on the Triumph a couple years ago, when there was a big cheerleader group (Probably 12 y/o)

They took over both pools and hot tubs.

Its one thing to cruise with a bunch of kids but when they all know each other, they are obnoxious

I was on a cruise with a quincetaro group out of Puerto Rico and I found them to be rude pushy and a horror to be around. These girls and their families cut in every line after all it's their birthday! Everyday time and time again all I heard was a group of 20 or 30 yelling at the top of their lungs Puerto Rico at the top of their lungs. I did not let it ruin my cruise but I changed many things I do on board to avoid these groups. I will never cruise with a large group again.

Sounds like the Brazilian tour groups at Walt Disney World for the entire month of July, except with a much smaller amount of guests.

How do you know if there is a large booking on your ship. Sailing on the fantasy in october

You can try searching the ship name and sail date on Google and see if any group has formed a website. You can also try searching on some social media websites and see if any groups have been created for that cruise.

I just found out that my second leg of the cruise will have a radio station on with around 700 guests. So if my ship holds 2000 passengers thats almost 1/3 the ship. I have heard that they are having special guests, bands and that some of the bars will be closed as well as special comedians.

That to me seems like I will be limited with what I will be able to do on the ship! Has anyone been on a sailing like this. What have your expiriences been?

I think had I known I would have not booked these sailings as I am doing b2b.

Do you know what radio station? If it's XL 106.7 out of Orlando, FL you are gonna have so much fun. You won't be able to go to the special engagements but they hang out on deck a lot and it's one big party. Either way you're gonna be on a B2B...no way you won't have a good time!

My first cruise was an annual LGBT cruise during Halloween. I don't have anything to compare it to but it never felt like my choices were limited because of the special engagements. Happy cruising!!!

We once cruised with a large bunch of some group (dont remember which one) and they pretty much took over the back lounge and we thought we lost out on entertainment choices as a result.

I had this happen on one cruise also. It seemed that many public areas of the ship (not just meeting rooms) were taken over by the group. I guess I wouldn't have minded if we had been in a balcony cabin, but that trip IIRC we were in an inside, so wanted to be out and about as much as possible.

It didn't ruin our cruise, but I did feel a bit like a second-class passenger that trip.

The most I have noticed is that they reserve some of the club spaces and rooms. Even the main theatre at times. But nothing disruptive.

Getting group photos taken sometimes blocked the stairs in the main lobby -- theyall went the the slides at the same time -- or sat together by the pools, but there's so many places to be, I just found something else.

Elvises are kind of noticeable. Tshirts are like brands they wear. But I have a wonderful cruise all the same!!!

A couple of years back...

ncbeachteacher,

I realize this is off topic, but if you are still reading this thread, I have a quick question. Are you still on the Miracle sailing to Hawaii?

If yes, please confirm on that roll call.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Cruised with a teen beauty pageant group. They took over the Paris lounge on the Inspiration for several hours a day every day. Then they'd take over the dance club at night for a private party.

Cruised with a gospel group that was some of the best entertainment ever! Two ladies ended up in the Legends show and brought the house down.

The poker tournament folks were everywhere on one cruise but if you didn't know who they were you'd never know it.

At embarkation on one trip, over 350 people boarded all wearing shirts that said "Bob's Family". I figured, wow, big family reunion until I saw too many different ethnic groups and saw almost none of them spoke to one another....Finally I asked one of them and was told, "Oh no, we don't know each other. Bob's is a travel agency."

I was co-hosting a CC Group Cruise on the Glory, that ended up being a John Heald Blogger's Cruise.

We were able to join in on all the events and it was pretty cool.

We also were on the Freedom, while Samantha Brown and the Travel Channel filmed a Cruise for her TV show.

  • 4 weeks later...

I just heard that the Vision on 31Jan2015 from Tampa has a large group coming. Some on the roll call have already cancelled. We cannot cancel or change the date because we are sailing with lots of friends, so I will find out if I notice the group or not. They will have some separate entertainment so we shall see about the venues. Last week 9bus loads of folks from the same community were on board but I couldn't tell, probably because there were no special events for them, just more retired folks from Florida!
