tipping guide (for all of you who want good service with the purchase of a suite)

Recommended Posts

1- tip about $20 pp on the first day, this will get him going

2- then tip about $7pp/day (adds up, 5 suffices)

3- if he is helping with luggage for disembarkation, an extra $15pp will make sure he is known for what he has done. Best service you can get usually.

more econominal, near as effective

15/3/10 will get him good service also, even though it will be nothing big.

Tested on Norwegian Gem, and Norwegian Breakaway.

I tip the Butler $20 as soon as I get to the room for taking care of my precruise incidentals & I bring a couple of hundred in singles (drink servers though my favorite servers will get 5's) & 5's (coffee/Breakfast) as I tip everyone as I am served and then I tip big at the end.

I do find that by tipping in O'Sheean's does get me faster service, I always stop by for a Pepsi (using soda card) before bed and there will be 20 people at the bar and my Pepsi will be in my hand in under a minute, it does make a big difference in service (though not necessarily in the Haven where the service is already exceptional) but in the bars, casino, yes the servers will seek out the tippers before the non-tippers, it's just a fact of life.

In the off chance that this thread is supposed to be serious, I want to say that I have ALWAYS had fantastic suite experiences, and I have NEVER tipped the first day, the second day...

My thoughts exactly.

And what the heck does "this will get him going" mean?? Is the OP implying that tipping on the first day is the only way to get "good service"? Ridiculous.

Did you also test giving the butler $70 at the end of the trip? Saying tested, would imply that you did different scenarios to come to your conclusion. Edited by NLH Arizona

Seems like this is a thread just for people to show off they have money to throw around.

It has nothing to do with that, 1 of my first jobs was a waitress job and I can relate to the people in the service industry, they work very hard on their feet for long hours and getting paid crap by the employer, so yes I tip well because of it and yes I believe I get better service because I do.

But do you tip before or after service? I was a waitress also. I would roll my eyes if someone thought tipping first would get them better service than the next table...

So does the DSC, and an envelope to the butler & concierge at the end of the cruise (the contents of which they may not even realize until you've left the ship).

It works for me.

I have tipped my steward $20 upfront a couple of time as I had special request.

Move the beds, bar soap , Elemis lotion etc. And more at towards the end of the cruise if I'm happy with services .

I have always been happy so far. :D

Hmmm, quite possible, but could also be a money hungry cabin steward that was up late trying to find a way to make more money and these are the ships "he" will be working the next several months???

Good try to the OP cabin steward in disguise, so here is your tip: when driving through the country side in the fall at 1:02 a.m. please use your bright headlights, this could save your life :D

Now can someone pass me the popcorn please?

As I get my things, when I order room service I tip when they bring me my food/coffee, after I get a drink I tip, when I go to sign my check for the precruise items I tip. I don't just hand out money to random people as I walk by them if that is what your thinking

Bet you if we were standing together during the week and I tipped before and you had not they walk over to me first.

I agree. IMO the advice is ridiculous. Simply tip on the last day, the amount dependent on service and your budget.
