Totally agree with you each person is unique and we all like different things. Just being on a cruise is all I need and then go with the punches. Too bad this site got ridiculed big time again over on fb which claims this site is not to be mentioned because of all its false information. Too bad people can't get along better.

Overrated- WCMC, Balcony cabins, new thin crust pizza, desserts, your time dining, Tipping and Cozumel Mexico port.

Underrated- Ship tour, Fantasy class ships, ocean view rooms, room service and of course San Juan port. I like Nassau Bahamas too.

Underrated:

  • Pizza Pirate (the new, upgraded version, not the horrid, soggy, undercooked, doughy old version)
  • MDR Indian vegetarian entrée - sometimes the ONLY saving grace in the MDR
  • FTTF - For me, it's not about getting on the ship "first," but the ability to drop off carry-ons in the cabin (I sail solo, and juggling a backpack, rolling carry-on, drink, silverware, and plate in the buffet is a pain in the rear).
  • Made-to-order omelets on the Lido
  • Serenity area (when it's aft and has some shaded areas)

Overrated:

  • Mongolian Wok - absolutely terrible, tasted worse than the "Chinese" food that I would get at the buffet in college, and it never improved on any of the ships I tried it on. I don't see why people stand in line for the stuff.
  • C-side BBQ - I love BBQ, but what was being served was absolutely mediocre
  • the soft-serve ice cream

I been a CC member a LONG time maybe one of the best threads I have read in long time. Even a long time cruiser like myself is finding this one very interesting.

Under Rated

Deli -Tuna On Rye Love their Tuna best I Have ever had , Last cruise I think I ate one almost everyday for lunch:D

My husband would agree with you totally. He ate one or two every night on the Freedom via room service!

OVER RATED:

•WCMC

•The New American Table menu and dining setup

•All the shops onboard and their "deals"

•"Sail Away Party!" (Simply a "come spend your $$ on booze party and let us blast music so loud you can't talk)

•art auction!!!

•Grand Turk (aka 'Grand Turd' because there's nothing there)

UNDER-RATED:

•Wine pairing (you learn a LOT)

•Comedy Club (largest crowds onboard)

•The Steakhouse!!

•Karaoke with a LIVE BAND!

•Less expensive Coffee Cocktails at the coffee shop (only about $3 for an Irish coffee over there---shhhh!)

•Piano Bar

•Live bands that have been put out in the breeze ways by the casino to play. They gather larger crowds and dancing happy cruisers than the theater!

•St. Kitts

•St. Lucia

•Puerto Rico (soooo much history!)

•Scenic OV rooms (the straight on views are amazing)

•Eggplant arugula mozzarella panini!!

I sailed on Liberty earlier this month, and was so looking forward to the famed Guys Burger. When I finally got one, I was disappointed. It was good, but not great, and definitely did not live up to the CC hype.

So, what do you things do you think that CC over hypes and underrates? My list is below

Overhyped:

Guys Burger

The famed desserts (WCMC, Grand Marnier Soufflé, Bitter N Blanc)

Tea Time

Shows on Liberty

Underrated:

Fish N Chips

Blue Igauna (I could eat my body weight in watermelon jicama salsa)

Mongolian Wok

The brass band

San Juan (I have never been to a more beautiful place)

I LOVE the Bitter and Blanc and tea time

I have always thought the upcharge restaurants were Overhyped and the MDR underrated.

Thank you. Correct. I agree. Thanks.

Not trying the escargot though. Can't do it. :D But it's o.k. if YOU want to!

Overrated: Warm chocolate melting cake (slightly cooked batter - yuck)

C-side bar-b-que - it was too windy, too many people in line, not that great

FTTF - what a waste of money- I can wait 20 minutes and carry my small bag around until 1:30 or so.

Dinner "beef" meals - they all taste the same, kind of like roast

Deli - dry sandwiches, too chewy :p

Underrated: Sea day brunch - very fun, nice food

San Juan - I was dreading this port, but I found it to be lovely and interesting.

Trivia and games - these are so much fun, especially when the crowd is large and people have fun while playing.

Port Canaveral - easy drive, less traffic, easy parking, helpful attendants

Overrated:

Grand Cayman - have been there four times, and have no desire to return due to tender, high prices, and not much new to do.

Lobster - small and often over-done

Underrated:

Key Lime Pie on Lido lunch - best dessert all week

Chicken tenders - but no longer available on Guy's ships:(

I love this thread. I'm going on my first Carnival cruise this Sunday (Freedom). I've cruised on RCL, NCL and Princess so it will be interesting to compare. Based on these comments, I can't wait to try Blue Iguana, esp. for breakfast and Fish & Chips. And although I plan to try both Guys and the melting cake thing, my expectations for both will be a bit lower. Who knows? Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll try (most) anything once.

LOL this is why we always order TWO lobster tails! Mine have never been dry, and the steak house one was perfect. Not like fresh at home, but close. I suspect portions are smaller to decrease waste just as much as to decrease overhead.

You know, I have to agree with the lack of chicken tenders. I mean I love guys burgers. But this is why I wouldn't book a ship just for one. At times I do really miss the regular grill because it offers other stuff other than just burgers. Like chicken strips at the grill by the pool at lunch time. I mean how many friggin burgers can a person eat?!? Last cruise on the Liberty I went hunting for chicken strips and never did find them :(

My last cruise was also on The Liberty, and not only did they not have them on the Lido, they were also absent from the appetizer sections of The American Table.

Been far to long since I cruised, but just started shopping, so hoping to have a countdown clock rolling soon. :)

Anyway, great thread and interesting to see all the diverse opinions. Was really surprised to see all of the WCMC in the overrated column. Used to be one of my favorites, so I hope I still like it. THe other thing I was surprised no one mentioned was the piano bar (hope they still have those too). My wife and I always had a lot of fun there, and found it a nice place to have a drink. I will also echo those that love the fish and chips. Only had it on the cruise I took the cruise on the GLory, and it was great. Wish more boats had it.

I do want to comment on balconies too. THese are really overrated, unless you spend a bunch of time in the room. For my last few cruises I had young children and it was great to sit on while they napped and got to bed too early for my taste. ALso, my wife gets ready kind of slow, so I enjoy having a drink on it. IF it weren't for the children issue though, I'm not so sure I would really need one, as we just don't spend much time there.

I'm floored to hear that there are no chicken tenders on ships with Guy's. Seriously, what will I feed my children!!! (insert sarcasm) But still, we really liked the tenders. Are they seriously no where to be found?? We are sailing the Sunshine in February.
