Princess cruise Ship Captains

Hi,

I have just been reading your postings for the various captains for the Princess Line, I had never really thought about knowing who the captain was on my ship, I was a little concerned at not having noticed a Captain being listed for the Golden Princess, I thought they must have left him back in Drydock when she received her last upgrade.

I notice that a Captain Bommardo?? is listed for the Golden Princess between Sept. and Dec.2015, my concern is that she is sailing into unkown waters. The Golden Princess as far as I know has never ventured down under before and we have a few little hazzards along the way. ie sailing into Milford Sound in New Zealand is very narrow upon entering, I have been on 2 cruises so far that have had to bypass the Milford Sound due to bad weather, the weather can be a little bit wild and woolly down there.

We had a really nice Italian Captain on the Carnival Spirit when she first sailed down under, he was like clockwork, every 12 Noon he gave his daily report about the ship's location, even when we had 2 very seriously ill passengers that delayed sailing from Hobart he always maintained that he had never been late arriving at port the next day.

Does anyone know anything about Captain Bommardo??? thanks.

You do realise a Pilot comes on board for every arrival and departure into a port.

It's Commodore Romano on the Ruby Princess....he has been a commodore for a while...we enjoyed him immensely on our Mediterranean cruise on the Ruby about 3 years ago. He is the BEST !!! And we are thrilled to be sailing with him again in August on the Ruby to Alaska.

We love Comm. Romano. Our last trip with him was the fall Ruby ta last year. On a Wake Show interview he said that he will be retiring and starting a fishing charter co. called Capt. Joe's. I hope we get to sail with him again before he retires.

Nice piece of work Cruiser. I like the revised format.

 

I see Capt. Rikard Lorentzen has left the Ocean Princess as of 4 July. I don't see him anywhere else on the list.

 

I'm hoping he's on vacation and will be back. He was our captain for a month last year on the Ocean Princess. He is one of the most visible and personable captains we've experienced. He even allowed himself to be thrown in the pool wearing full dress uniform when we crossed the equator in the Indian Ocean.

I have just returned from a Baltic Heritage Cruise where Giorgio Pomato was Captain for the first week, before Captain Nick Nash took over for the final week.

I have sailed with Capt Pomato before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - it was my first cruise and he was partly the reason for booking a further cruise with Princess. I was therefore really pleased when I embarked and found he was at the helm.

Then, upon leaving Helsinki...a new voice from the Bridge - Captain Nick Nash. After coming to terms with the "loss" of Giorgio, it soon became apparent that we had been given an excellent replacement.

Capt Nash was absolutely brilliant, his regular updates were informative, interesting and delivered with a fabulous sense of humour. He kept us informed about the navigational course, points of interest along the way (inc times we would reach them), passing Merchant ships for those ship-spotters amongst us, and of course the shipping forecast (we had force 9 conditions). I understand from reading about him on various sites that he was given an unfortunate nickname a few years ago following an incident, however I would have no hesitation in sailing with him again & indeed may even select a cruise based on him being in charge.

This list will be a useful tool for future choices.

I understand from reading about him on various sites that he was given an unfortunate nickname a few years ago following an incident, however I would have no hesitation in sailing with him again & indeed may even select a cruise based on him being in charge.

Captain Roger Bilton is currently on Pacific Jewel. His name was mentioned in yesterday cruise weekly in Australia. It does seem that quite often the captains from the Princess Fleet command the P&O Australia Fleet.

Our personalizer for the Ocean Princess' last season lists "John Paul Bryant" as the captain. He doesn't seem to show up in the current list anywhere.

 

Anyone know more about him?

 

Edit: Got the spelling of the first name wrong. It is "Jon".

Given that, add him to the OP's list from as January 3rd through the OP's last day, March 7, 2016. He might take over from the previous captain but I can't tell.
