What did they do to this poor ship!!!

I couldn't care less about what the Island's stern looks like. We are booked midship in a corner bump-out mini, and I'm not much for spending my cruise time on a treadmill, or feeding slots in the casino either, for that matter. :p Still eagerly anticipating the Island in April '17 :D

I agree with you, I don't care what the stern looks like.:)

I'm sure most of us could live with the stern even if it is butt ugly. It's all the other nasty changes that go with it, none of which are positive.

Apparently even Princess feels the same way if they have in fact canceled the same changes for sister ship CORAL PRINCESS. Fingers crossed!

No changes for the Coral in that regard.

OMG what have they done to the Island. How can they take a really nice ship and turn it into one of the ugliest and ill thought out. Perhaps if Princess has trouble filling this wreck of a ship they will get the message to not mess with something that works. RIP Island.

The only good news is I hear plans to do the same to sister ship CORAL PRINCESS are on hold.

Does that mean that Coral Princess will not be refurbished in the same way as Island Princess?

Edit: Just browsed the Princess website, and Coral's sailing schedule!

You can choose the deck plans between NOW and May 06, 2017, or, from May 06, 2017!!

I opened both deck plans, and no newly installed aft cabins were visible.

Also, her gap in her sailing schedule has gotten shorter - she will not offer any sailings between Jan 16 and 30, 2016 - so during the two weeks drydock, she should just get routine upgrades, such as new carpets and sunloungers, nothing looking like major changes.

YEAH!!! :) :)

The Coral is going to dry dock around the 16th of January.

Taking out Sabatinis etc.

No plans to make the same changes as the Island. :)

Well what a relief that is we are on her feb.5th and I was worried about the dry doc. Refurb. but I hadn't thought about it when I excepted a move over cruise date. We were scheduled to go Dec 17 then changed to the 5th of feb.

I actually very much appreciate the positive comments on this thread. I have never sailed Princess before and booked an Alaskan cruise on Island for May, 2016 when they first became available because the date and itinerary worked best for us. That was before she sailed the Med this summer after her refit and the negative reports started pouring in. Since we've committed to sailing her, it is really nice to hear from folks who have had a good time on her recently. Thank you very much for sharing!!

Over the years I have stated that Coral is the favorite ship on which I have sailed, due in manly to its Universe Lounge, (I have never sailed on Island), I have never wished to sail on larger cruise ships.

My wife and I are nearing the end of our cruising lives, so, if Coral is altered, in the same way as Island, we may not cruise again.

We booked on the Island next June for Alaska - tried to make the Coral sailings work for our dates but didn't work out. Will miss the gym - my partner loves working out in the Gym and looking through windows to the outside makes a big difference. I haven't told him it is an enclosed room yet. Who works out in a room without windows? Very poorly thought out. 3 sea days out of 7 would have meant lots of workouts. :(

Not so keen about the delays to dining either.

Made sure our cabin is way up front to get to the front decks. And avoid the rebuild issues.

As far as the aft goes - I remember looking at NCL Epic in Rome and thinking what an ugly ship it was. I have no idea why I enjoy being in an attractive ship but I do. Oh well, will be a great cruise regardless.

Great attitude! I would sail on IP if the price and itinerary were right, but if there were other equal options I would probably pick them.

Regardless you will have a great time … and perhaps play dumb with your partner and the gym. When you get onboard you can act very surprised and appalled there are no windows! LOL

Complaints about internal changes I can understand, but external appearance??? you don't see when you are on her

Would you say the same for an actual woman? Yeah, external appearance does matter. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder...:p

1 big difference between a woman and a ship

But

2 Yes I'd much rather a woman who was beautiful on the inside.

Cruise as long as you can! I guess I would cruise in the Islsnd again if the journey was right, but really did like the old ship.

Thankyou and will do! A dream holiday.

As far as the gym goes - "oh, what a cute little gym and not crowded either - no distractions either' ;)

We will be on the Island in less than 2 weeks. It may not be very beautiful anymore, but we will still enjoy the cruise experience. Being away from work, not cooking, not cleaning, and enjoying the beautiful ports--especially the Panama Canal. Hopefully, they won't mess with the Coral, since we have a cruise planned for next summer.

If you can't understand why a ship's exterior appearance is important to people then you're not a ship person. Nothing wrong with that, but there are those of us who want the whole package...we like to look at ships – inside and out, so, yes, it's important to us that they are attractive. When my ship arrives at a port of call, I love to stand there and gawk at it. I take hundreds of photos, including pics of any other ships that are there. But I am a ship person, and I guarantee, Ernie is ship person, too.

How many people would arrive at a hideous, ugly hotel you'd booked for a dream vacation and say, "Yeah It's ugly but it's home" ?

I'm sure most would say, "I'm not staying in this dump", and drive on.

Of course online photos and reviews would likely turn you away before you ever made the reservations.

Luxury vacation cruise ships should not look like surplus auto ferries.

I looked at it on Princess website.Surrounded on the outside with cabins.

Folks are on vacation they like to have windows to the sea while they are keeping fit.

Oh well I suppose the stock holders will be pleased added cabins = more revenue:(

Several of CC members are stockholders.Don't you have a say at the stockholders meetings?
