Just off Ruby......

We are going to book the Ruby to Alaska. Could someone tell me if we would feel more motion in a mid-aft cabin or a mid-forward cabin. We are looking at a minisuite. Thanks.

Jaylie, the ship moves up and down more the farther you are from midship. As the front of the ship is moving up, the after section is moving down and vice versa. Similarly, the ship will roll (righ-left) around a mid-point--the higher you are, the more you will feel the roll. So, if you want to feel less motion, you want to pick a cabin amid-ship and fairly low. If you want to feel more motion, you want to pick a cabin that is more forward or more aft and you want to pick one of the higher decks.

Now, the fact of the matter is that the stabilizers on the ship do a pretty good job of minimizing this, but if you encounter big swells, you're going to feel it no matter what. Also, some people are more sensitive than others.

I hope this helps.

We just got off the Ruby last Thursday after 25 nights on those HEAVENLY beds!! We are super picky about mattresses, and hubby has serious back issues. He brings inflatable pillows to use so he has an "adjustable bed" set-up when he sleeps. We both slept like we were at home.

The bedding is great, too. Soft sheets, great pillows, and a wonderful comforter. It, however, was too much sailing in Hawaii and Mexico.

Honestly we were all surprised how much motion we were feeling on this little cruise. Seas were a bit rough when we got into open water out of San Diego and all day at sea on Saturday into the evening. Rear of ship in Skywalkers or down in Fusion was pretty bad. Met some new cruisers having a rough time.

The Ruby, Crown and sister ships tend to heel over in turns and wind. They are tall and narrow. We were on Crown last month. The ships officers told us they constantly move ballast (fresh water, gray water, etc), from tank to tank to try and offset the movement. It's part of the basic ship design.

West Coast sailing is almost always 'rough' when compared to the Caribbean, especially going north, especially more so when there are storms as we've had. The Pacific is a misnomer. Simply more peaceful than what Magellan encountered under South America.

They showed The Revenant and Inside Out a Pixar movie was cute.....dining room had good offerings, Italian night one time....prime rib, surf and turf (shrimp) no lobster on short sailings.....deserts in Salty Dog we thought were the best.......

The Ruby was in dry dock in December. The ship is a great shape and the new beds are in.

Two completely independent sentences. Beds can and are exchanged while in port all the time. There's no need to take the ship out of the water to replace the beds.

Hey Julie - Barb from the April 18,cruise. My friend Helen checked with Princess and they said you swipe your card in a machine and get tokens to then use them in the washing machines and dryers. Hopefully someone will confirm that info on this site.

You can do this but when we were on the ship in December (going to Hawaii) the machines were either broken or out of tokens. Several times had to go to 3-4 laundry rooms to get tokens.

Wonder how Share is doing? It was just introduced in December and several people we spoke to were not impressed.

Salty Dog seems better.

Overall food was very good including international cafe

Do you know if the laundry machines take tokens, or can you swipe your ship's card?

Swipe your S&S card, then you get tokens to insert into the machines. We packed our own detergent and fabric softener sheets - one less thing to purchase on the ship. The Tide pods work good.

I can confirm this, and we were on the Ruby for 25 nights, getting off last Thursday. I used the laundry on Deck 8.
