Anniversary Sale !

The Anniversary sale doesn't work for me. A couple cruises I am looking at are within the final payment date and now have Mariner member "special rates" which are $800+ less than the rates available to the general public, unfortunately the Anniversary sale isn't available if you choose the Mariner rate.

Oh well, my only complaint it's it's not clear when you log in and choose a cabin that you are not getting the Anniversary rate perks. You have to actually NOT login to the website to see what your cost is with the Anniversary sale.

This happened to me to. I got an email for a private sale and when I called to get the lower pricing they then told me it wasn't compatible. I told them that no where in the email did it say it wasn't a compatible program. Still no go. The pricing was better overall including losing the perks so I went with the lower price.

Hi... I bit off topic, but what are the "mariner rates" and do you receive the info by email? Is this only for USA clients? I am a mariner also, but never received an offer by email (maybe this does not apply in europe).

I don't get any e-mail but when I log in to the HAL website (make sure you're recognized as a Mariner Member) on some cruises you'll see the Standard Price and right above it the Special Price. It's not always there and sometimes it's just a hundred dollars or so but if you are past the final payment date there can be significant savings. Not sure if it applies to Europe or not.

Hi RickT,

Thanks for the clarification. No, I have not seen that in the HAL website. Most of the times I browse without logging, but I have just logged in as a mariner and I still only see the regular pricing (in Euros, so it means that HAL is tracking my location and maybe that affects the offers).

I received a private sale email. I think I got it because I live close to Seattle and it was for Alaska cruises. It was substantially lower than the advertised rates. Overall, I saved about $1500.

I like in Kentucky and was able to take advantage of it. I had signed for special offers and got an email about it. I have never cruised with HAL so I signed up for a Mariner ID to see if that got me access to the special prices. It didn't work and I gave up. Then I got a call from a cruise consultant She got me the private sale fair and I also saved about $1500 on a quad inside cabin. Mine was a new booking. So it seems that the travel consultants have access to the pricing when it isn't automatically applied online

I have signed up several times for the special sales e-mail which is offered every time I browse through the website and have never received even a single one. I have also never received the Mariner's magazine or annual cruise planner - wake up Holland America - we're always interested in booking another cruise!!!!

I recently had the same problem -- signed up for specials email and never received anything. Finally I contacted the mariner society and they said if you had a cruise booked, they don't send you the offers no matter how many times you sign up. They lifted the hold on my account for a year so maybe now I'll finally get offers.

Nice! I'm happy to hear they are sending it out to others who are not close to the port. [emoji4]

We are in New Zealand, have never received a mariner magazine, when I e-mailed asking if they would please mail it out to us, was told to read the on-line version, which we never do.

The only cruise planner we see is when I collect a Cruise Atlas during a cruise.

But, as 4 star mariners they do mail to us the "Travel and Leisure" magazine.

On Saturday we received a sale brochure that had our mariner numbers printed on the back cover. The sale is for all 2017 Europe cruises and includes the $50 pp/day beverage card, free gratuities, up to $400 OBC and up to $1600 if use their air. We have until 6/30/16 to book for this special offer.

That's a strange policy!!! We have two more cruises booked in 2016, but are quite willing to book more if the price is right and if there is an interesting special.

Same thing about the annual cruise planner - browsing through that gives many more ideas - unfortunately for the bank account  - and is an addition through using the website.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Right now I have only two cruises booked, both of them fairly short. I haven't had so few cruises/days booked in more years than I can count.

But HAL doesn't send e-mails to tempt me. When cruising I check the FCC's desk for brochures, but those are few and far between. HAL's policy is just look on-line.

Well, how am I supposed to know what to look for if I don't know what's offered? I don't know where I want to go, or when, or for how long, yet those are exactly the parameters I have to enter for the website to show me what's available!

I expect I'll start getting mail from HAL when I don't have any cruises booked, and that will be because I can't cruise anymore.

Stupid policy.

I've found that one of the best ways to see what I might like to take is to peruse the Future Cruisers List on this site. Sometimes I see a cruise that sounds interesting, then I can look that up.

In the last few months we have gotten two "special offer" e-mails. We checked destinations we were interested in cruising to on the HAL website. We have several existing HAL cruises booked.

Call your HAL PCC or HAL Customer Service and ask if there's a "Marketing Hold" on your account. The system often places these "Holds" when you have cruise(s) booked. As soon as my PCC removed the hold, I started getting mailings etc., offering sales and promos.

That's not a solution to the problem when the problem is the HAL policy.

Sure, I can take the initiative, and I'll even get an overture or two. And then it stops. Again. And becomes incumbent on me to reach out to HAL. Again.

If HAL wants me to spend money, they should be the ones reaching out to me, letting me know what they have for sale. Not the other way around.

Good morning Ruth. I don't like the policy either, but I've been receiving mailings consistently since having the marketing hold removed almost a year ago, and I've had as many as three cruises booked during that time frame. If they stop sending me sale flyers, I'll drop an email to my PCC and have him remove it again. That brings me less brain damage than beating my head against the wall of HAL policy.

Thought I'd bump this up, as it's still relevant!:) Called our PCC yesterday for the second time to ask about this (the first time she said we weren't eligible), and she finally said she would try to "force" our Prinsendam cruise into the sale, and of course it was there, well before final payment. We got $1500 off the 28 days, each, and DD, who is sailing as a single got $2400 off - she was thrilled!

Also, one of the perks is pre-paid gratuities. DD was rather peeved about that, as she says she needs all the on-board expenditures she can get to get her to 4 star, hopefully on the cruise. Does anyone know if she will still get the credit for the HSC, even if it is pre-paid?

I cannot say for certain, as it depends on how HAL handles it on your account. Most perks they give you a credit on your account upfront and then they deduct it as you use it. If they do it this way you should get credit.

One time we got free massages. They added $240 in credits to our account and then deducted it when we used it. As I recall, we ended with with an extra day that way.

When we get just OBC, we always end up with it being applied to the $300 Mariner calculation. I do not think HAL has enough information to handle it any other way.

I always book through my TA (she always beats HAL's price or has extra OBC), but I do dummy bookings to see what cabins are available before I contact her. I don't sign in. I never run across mariner discounts. It's easier to poke around in the system if I'm not signed in.

This time around, I noticed that the little box that says "SALE" and "click for details" on the itinerary page doesn't always appear. If I got to the cruise from the sale "banner" on the website, the sale seemed to be in effect. If I got to the same cruise from the search system, I didn't see the "SALE" box.

Also, check out the find print on the OBC for this promotion. You can't use it in the casino. So I guess they got wise to this way of "laundering" your OBC into cash.

(bold is mine) Yeah, remember the OBC that was supposed to be used for tours? It turned out to be ordinary OBC that we could use for anything.

Thanks, Dave. I guess she will just have to up her expenditures on board to cover that little bit extra, in case it doesn't show on her account. It's a hard life!:D

HAL has been saying for awhile that you cannot use it in the casino. However, a number of people on this board report still being able to. Again, I doubt that HAL really has the ability to monitor this, given the number of passengers on each sailing.
