On our April Transatlantic on the Regal, no one got name tags by their cabin doors. Princess decided to try that to see how people liked it. Everyone complained so I presume that they gave up that idea. Everyone said that if we don't want our name tag by the cabin door ----- just remove it!!!!

Princess has also cut out Bridge lessons on long cruises which many of us loved.

Now they want to cut out the Patter on port days???? How the heck will we know what is happening at night???? I also take photos of the Patter every evening. Then I know what day my photos are taken!!!! How will we know when the tour desk, etc. are open????

I'm on vacation. I don't want to carry around my phone everyday all day to keep track.

I'm with everyone else - Princess can save money by NOT printing all the junk that we don't look at anyway. I don't need another piece of art or jewelry!!!! But that is how they make money from the newer cruisers!

And I can do this leisurely walk multiple times if when I get to the purser's desk I find the Patter is not available yet.

You could probably reduce the multiple trips to one per port day

by simply inquiring 'after what time will tomorrow's patters be available?'

Or, and I know this uses technology so it won't be acceptable, call the desk before departing on your walk, to ensure success.

Having a tablet or ipad is only useful if you're in a cabin that is connected to wifi. All of the cabins are supposed to be, but we all know that's not the case. Two out of five times this past year I've been able to get wifi in the cabin, but the other three, I haven't.

You are correct about not always having wifi in your room. In fact, most of the time we cannot get wifi in our room, or it fluctuates. I could get on for a while, then it disappeared and I could not sign off to stop the wifi charges!!

I was going to use my tablet (Kindle Fire) to read my downloaded books, because I like the backlight.

We have watched the implementation of numerous "cutbacks" over the years, but this one is really silly. Can you imagine 3,560 passengers gathering at the front desk waiting for their nightly Patters? Maybe this is their way to get more people out and about late in the evening. Give us our Patters and Log Of The Cruise!!!:mad::mad:

Pablo222 - I agree with you! IF they decide to NOT give us Patters on Port Days, we should remind all the Cruise Critic people at the Get-together to CALL the front desk before walking down there to make sure the Patters are available!!! My husband gets back from Texas Hold'em late at night or early in the AM. He has already given Princess money at the poker table. Why can't he read his Patter - like he always does - when he gets into bed????!!!!

Oh - people are going to complain, complain about this idea just like they did with the lack of Cabin door names on the Regal! What if people only want to cruise and NOT get off the ship on Port Days????? What if people don't bring their cell phones on the cruise???? My husband doesn't have one!!!! Some people do NOT want to be bothered with technology when they're on vacation!!!! And give me back my Bridge Lessons on long cruises!!!! Now I'm mad. I REALLY REALLY miss my Bridge Lessons - but I think that Princess stopped them because they don't want more people learning Bridge - that keeps them out of the casino & shops!!!

You haven't been devoting enough of your time to this Board :p.

That was May's big brouhaha: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2353318&

Princess must have received the message because it changed back on the Regal but it didn't keep folks from weighing in on the topic in June: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2369597&

Somewhere in this thread, one poster suggest that cruise critic was

an important survey source for princess decision makers.

From reading this thread, they should conclude:

1) stop spending money setting up and maintaining shipboard intranet,

because no one uses it.

2) stop providing gyms on all ships, because passengers don't even walk.

Personally, I found it very handy to check my folio frequently on my

smart phone. Within a few minutes of it being made, I caught a

$50 crab shack charge that wasn't mine.

It was easy to spy, because it was the newest charge when I checked.

BTW, on cruises I use an android phone that I bought for $10 on black friday.

It has no service, so I can't get any surprise charges; the boss isn't going

to mail/message me on it; and if it decides it

wants to enjoy the hot-tub with me, I don't have to cry.

How about calling the PSD & requesting someone to bring a copy to the cabin. :p:rolleyes:

I'm sure that would go over big.

I'm going to ask pablo to pick up a copy for me when he walks down to get his and to swing by my cabin to drop it off. ;) I'm sure he won't mind. :)

Oh great now all of us must conform to what pablo222 wants us to do. What about audible alerts on the @sea app so we know when some one gets a message. We should all invest in a $10 phone in order to get our information that Princess wants us to have. We should all stay up each night, call the desk to find out when the Patter is going to be available, then all go to the PSD to get one in the hopes they are there. All 2,000+ passengers going to the atrium at the same tme. Guess what happens if the Patters are not there?

And because so many are against it then all sorts of items should also be taken away from passengers. Talk about an alternate reality. I wonder who is one of the 2 who are for this idea. Yet they keep trying to convince people it is a good one and everyone else is wrong.

I don't recall this thread containing surveys on whether Princess should retire its intranet or if Princess should abandon its gyms. I'm pretty sure (as are you) that if those two hypotheses were tested, the overwhelming response would be to keep both. I don't think anyone here has suggested that inclusion of Patter information on the intranet was a bad idea. The bad idea is making it the exclusive domain for said information. At least for now. Someday, perhaps, your cruise card will come equipped with a micro-thin LED screen on the back that will allow for all sorts of data transmission including ship's schedules. When this happens, the resistance to e-delivery of information will subside. It will also subside when the people who are currently between the ages of 0-30 comprise the majority of cruise ship passengers. Google assumed that by now we would all be wearing Google Glasses and our Patter would appear in a "heads up" display holographically before our very eyes. That didn't happen. Some technology cannot be rushed. And the current cruise ship demographic is the very worst sub-group upon which to force technological change. I think the poll results here pretty much make that point.

I really hope this is just a momentary minute of insanity on Princess' part... I love the Patter. I have saved every Patter from every cruise. They provide a wonderful point of reference.

I hope you are right. I am all for improvements to the cruise experience but everything has it's limits. Remember a few months back the problem with BUTTER not available on the tables in the MDR. Again, Folks were very upset. Hopefully, Princess gets the message regarding this "Matter with the Patter" Also many others are not happy the Share/ C. Stone.

If you have followed these posts, people are worried about

all sorts of things -- if princess gives them a card with port

information for emergencies, what will happen when they

lose the card.

Your super-cruise-card should probably be a semi-permanent

wrist band that the hyper-careless can't lose.

The screen would be too small. But it probably could count the steps that people have to take to navigate the new ships without center staircases. That would give people something concrete to complan about. :D

The way this probably cam about was a couple of people commented on their post-cruise survey that they thought the Patter was a waste of paper. The rest of us saw no reason to say keep all the things we assumed wouldn't change so now Princess has feedback saying it's not needed (apply same logic to butter and name signs). So now clearly, every survey we need to enumerate every little thing we think should not be eliminated because you don't know what they'll think of next (who knows, after a one-night cruise, someone might say beds are unneeded and the next thing we know, beds are gone because no one was saying they were wanted [emoji3]).

Just talked to a customer service representative about 5 minutes ago. I had sent them a request to keep the patters and sent them a link to this discussion. She informed me that the Patters would remain being distributed to the rooms each night as they are now. I also asked about getting rid of all the useless ads that are put in each room and she said they were looking into it but no change to that as of now. So 97% are going to show that Princess does listen when they are given the desires of their customers.

Agree with all of the above...

Regarding the Patter, we sometimes wish we had TWO as each of us would like to have one when we go opposite directions!!! LOL

We are on our second Princess cruise (many other cruises but not Princess) and the PATTER is a definite need to plan the next day for ship activities and whatever else is going on. We do not need all that advertising but YES to the Patter delivered to our room. Who is going to run down to the desk each morning........no one!

What a cheapy outfit to do that. Erik & Pat (For Sugar):(

I used to take the Patters home and cut out relevant bits for my scrapbook. Now I take scissors and and do that daily to save weight and space (we take long cruises).

One could live without the ships log and huge amounts of daily advertising - which no doubt is passed onto the end price.

The Princess@ Sea app is great, but I only read that once a day along with my statements in the IC.

I mentioned what I like to do. I did not mention what anyone else, including

you, should do.

Here is the quote:

Perhaps you can be so kind as to point out where there is a suggestion

of what anyone should do.

Thank your for your courtesy.

Great response! Love it!

Now, after reading the issue about the butter, patters and name slips on the entry way to the cabin, I have come the to conclusion that perhaps, just maybe, its the stewards that are saying these things are just too time consuming (well not the butter part) in their list of job responsibilities?
