The 2nd series of The Cruise with Royal Princess sailing the Med starts again on Thursday night at 8:30pm on ITV.

This will be the second time Royal Princess has featured in a "documentary" on TV, They also did one on Regal Princess aswell.

I thought maybe people that had not sailed on Britannia would maybe enjoy this programme as Royal & Regal are very similiar to Britannia.

Similar in some ways but far more glamorous and glitzy than Britannia, Royal and Regal can be considered Broadway whilst Britannia is more Rochdale Hippodrome.

Totally agree.

We were on Royal Princess when filming took place last August. I may have been caught on camera in one of the dance classes held in the atrium!

Watching the last series I couldn't believe the Atrium on Princess' ship could possibly be the same size as Britannia's as it looked huge and very impressive. Lots of brass for them to keep clean.

Took me a while, but I got there.

The Royal and Regal are Flash Trash, whilst Britannia is Modern Class :D

Yes, I'd agree with that .

It should be remembered that Britannia was designed almost exclusively for the UK market by people who had little or no previous experience in cruise ships. I believe one company more or less designed every aspect under P&O's approval. I assume the thinking behind this was a more sudued holistic design finish.

Royal and Regal Princesses were designed for a mainly US market with a global market passenger base. The emphasis seems to be more on wow factor with decks overhanging side with a glass floor etc. They seem to be less on traditional design with features that are not as outlandish as the RCI new builds.

Totally agree, but my preference is to be wowed when I cruise. 'Subdued holistic' isn't the theme I would get excited about.

The comment about Rochdale made me laugh out loud. Now we loved our cruise on Britannia but she was a little 'plain' compared to her Princess sisters. It makes me smile that when P&O have an advert they always seem to use the exterior of some of the new P&O ships but always use photos of Oceana with her lovely atrium (another former Princess ship)

Oceana's atrium is stunning, especially the staircase.

I was a little disappointed with Britannia's atrium especially the spiral staircase.

I wonder if I am the type of English customer that P and O are aiming for? Simply because I thought that the atrium on Oceana was a bit too flash for me, and I can't explain why.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ventura looks like in a couple of months.

Why would you settle for Britannia's Ikea when you can have proper cruise ship bling with Princess and RCI.

P&O are aiming for all UK customers. Perhaps that is the problem. Family and Adults only. Very large to small ships. Traditional to modern lifestyle. Cub, freedom and Select dining. Not helped by many of the ships being designed for Cunard, Princess or whoever. It is difficult to know which ship I would enjoy. I hope Aurora will fit with me.

Best wishes, Stephen.

A tad unfair. Britannia is hardly Ikea designed ( and I'm not a Britannia fan). However I think the Princess versions meet my expectations of being wowed by a cruise ship in terms of decor, design and personnel. I think about our P&O cruises and struggle to think how a camera crew following a P&O crew member would improve the brand or increase bookings.

Oh dear, We had non cruising friends and family round and someone said "theres a cruise programme on,turn on the tv.! The sheer gluttony, self importance of spending four or five cruises a year self indulging (and it showed)being cosseted by third world staff..This showed people living in a bubble and in many ways apart from reality as most of us know.....A discussion followed and my wife and I who have only done three cruises,(No4 next month) found ourselves defending ourselves! After a lifetime of world travel..... backpacking (the pleasures of( Nairobi backpackers at aged 72!) ,fly drive, rail,we chose a cruise after I had an op on a detached retina. We enjoyed that cruise with Fred Olsen, choosing Norway a place where being on a ship may be the best way to see things.....We had to agree however that by and large cruising is dumbed down tourism and we have now joined that particular group.....In our own defence we pointed out that we do it our way.... use the gym, seldom take the lift, walk when we can and skip lunch on shore days. Whats more we have found many like us. We do the formal nights, comfortable in a dark suit, my wife likes to dress up a bit though. As for cruising more often? We like to try other travel adventures too so one a year is good for us. Also have to take into account Grandchildren getting on and in to University,Babysitting,Bank of Mum and Dad and spending a little of our time on charity work. We hope its a decent balance.

How awful is this series, it's just a rehash of the first one:

1. Lost luggage in first episode

2. Staff member trying to get another job (this one failing however - although the one who was promoted last time appears to back in his original job!

3. Award for the most travelled cruiser! How many days?!

The only thing new in this series is the somewhat more interesting work of the new second officer.

I dont think its doing a lot for the cruise industry at all as they are trying to attract a new generation of cruisers but the programme makes it look like only the elderly rich can go on a cruise ship - thats not how it has been on the ships I've been on so maybe for series 3 they should look at a different cruise line with real people on board.

I don't suppose the aim of the makers is to encourage people to try cruising, and if Princess thought it would be when they agreed to the series then they were being naive. I imagine that the intention was just to make a programme that would entertain the greatest number of people, and they probably thought that showing cruisers who matched most people's ideas of the stereotype cruiser - i.e. elderly and rich - would be the best way of doing that.

Perhaps Princess are trying to attract the richer, older passengers.

They must have seen P&O attracting the younger passengers from the UK who generally like to party and don't like to pay tips and Princess may want to be seen as a more upmarket line.

We have decided to give Princess another try, if we can find an itinerary that we want to do, because we are getting tired of P&O's dumbing down.

Maybe because this is the P&O board it is to be expected that there won't be many positive comments regarding a TV program featuring a competitor cruise line with many defending their favourite line in P&O.

For those of us who enjoy cruising, I would have thought it would be interesting to see another cruise line and its ship.

Some of the comments on here have made me laugh

"The Royal and Regal are Flash Trash, whilst Britannia is Modern Class" - that's some expensive 'trash'

"Subdued holistic" - P&O is mass market so I can't see it's specialist offering

"not really selling the concept of cruising..." - I disagree

"it's just a rehash of the first one" - winning formula

"dreadful looking food being served at The Captain's Table (or whatever it was called)" - food is a very subjective topic and I thought it looked good - Chef's Table btw

As a cruise line fanatic and not frightened to try other cruise lines (RCI, Celebrity, MSC, very possibly Cunard and yes, 2 more P&O booked) this program has piqued my interest in Princess.

It's 30 minutes of light entertainment, I doubt it's meant to lead to cerebral stimulation.:D

No doubt this will enrage the P&O loyalist, but some of the comments appear to be just petty jealousy to me because it's featuring Princess and not P&O.

I wouldn't pick holes in the program just because it's not about my favourite line Celebrity and strong contender for that award in my book MSC, I take it as feeding my cruise addiction which will be satisfied for real in just 4 weeks time. :D

Mind you at least there are more educated comments on here, good and bad, than on the Princess board! Seems to me that as it isn't featuring US passengers and isn't sailing the Caribbean the majority of US commentators hate it, but most of them can't watch it as it's on ITV!

Pete, I have not commented as I had not watched to program. I have now. It just seems to me badly made, the program not the ship. The idea that anyone would be on tenterhooks to see if they the most traveled passengers is just plain silly. They build up dramas when they are not there. The chef knew he was getting more staff and who they would be.

The problem with this and the first series is that they are not actually about the cruise experience. Especially when they concentrate on the bad things that happen. Lost cases, lost money, cases dropped in the water etc.

My comments are not cruise company specific, I would say the same if it had been P&O or Celebrity or any other line.

And of course it will not spoil my next cruise on errrr. Crown Princess which I will fully enjoy. I have no intention of doing anything else.
