The airport was a zoo. The queue for passport control was crazy. People were trying to cut the line, and other passengers were yelling at them. They only had two booths open for non-EU passports. Didn't expect it to be this busy on Easter Sunday. We're now at the gate awaiting our flight to Montreal where we connect to Toronto. 33dd3c401f4561fa3d64b24c57ed3846.jpg

Try getting off a ship in LA if you aren't a US citizen if you want a zoo. LAX was calm compared to the port. Bad enough that we won't take a cruise arriving in LA again.

me too! i usually have a change of clothes with me but now i am going to stuff my carry-on full when i cruise! they even flew in a day early.

Several years ago we were taking a LONG (35 day!!!) New Zealand/Australia cruise and our luggage got lost on the way there.

Thank goodness we had planned 4 days pre-cruise in Auckland because that's how long it took for them to find it.

By then I was having nightmares (and I DO mean stay up all night nightmares!) about spending a month in the slacks and tshirts I had in my carry on.

This is cool: instead of filling out the breakfast card and hanging it on the door, you can order room service breakfast from your phone. I'll let you know tomorrow how it went. 363c9f8637c4ee664c7e681b3471643a.jpg

Pardon the dumb question but I note your screen shot shows your phone is on 'Airplane Mode' as in No cell connection and no WiFi.

OR are you connected to the ship's WiFi and using your 150 free internet minutes?

Also the TapTalk Forum app you are using to post...is that 'free' as in no cell or data or internet minutes somehow?

We sail on the Royal next week and am I wrestling with which devices to take and use...so far I have my iPhone and Netbook but I had planned to take the cell phone with a International plan from home just in case of 'emergencies'.

thanks in advance for your answer.

Airplane Mode is so the phone won't pick up foreign cell towers (or some ships' sat cell signal). You can turn wifi back on after setting airplane mode. You can see the wifi indicator next to the airplane indicator in the screen shot. When you connect to the ship's wifi, you can see the Patter, check your stateroom account, message other guests, and access princess.com all free of charge. No internet package required.

Posting to CC (by whatever method) requires internet minutes, either free with status, or purchased.

iMessage on your iPhone works fine with internet minutes for staying in touch with home. For realtime communications, FaceTime Audio sometimes works, but forget video. If your cell plan has an international option, you can turn airplane mode off in port, but beware, depending on carrier and plan, you could really get dinged for roaming. Double check with your cell provider.

A note for Platinum/Elite guests on internet minutes:

When you first log on, you can purchase 100 extra minutes in addition to your free 150 for $25, and 200 extra for $40. This option is only presented once, and is the cheapest you'll find extra minutes.

On this cruise, I used my 150, my wife's 150, and about 150 more...

Thanks fellow Canuck..

.my 'International Easy Roam' from Telus (you may have the same) for $10/24 hrs WHEN and only WHEN I make/receive phone calls or use data.

SMS text messages unlimited free

BUT iMessage uses 'data' Telus says thus not free even tho their ads say 'FREE TEXT MESSAGES'.

I just came back from the US having put on the US Easy Roam at $7/24 hrs and honest to gosh swore I was hooked up to Wifi all the time when I texted iMessages but somehow, my data got dinged and I was charged. Telus couldn't explain it either so credited my account --now I am very leery about even turning the darn thing ON.

Good reminder about the one time offer of extra minutes. I am trying to get away and be unplugged on this trip other than let the kids know how I'm doing so I may just have to deal with the 150 me +150 hubby = 300 min or 5 hrs....I hope.

I note from my roll call that there is 1000 elite and 1200 platinum on our cruise so the internet may be crawling at snails pace with that many users.

I'm sorry for your daughter's bad luck, but thankful for the warning to make sure I have both a warm and a cool weather outfit with a toning top in my carry on bag. I already know to carry medication and valuables with me.

Hello CCers! Welcome to another of my photo-rich LIVE From instalments.

It's still a few days till we cruise, but I thought I'd start with our trip and adventures in Rome before we board.

I'll be concentrating on pics aboard the ship so people can see what she's like, rather than the ports.

This is our first Med cruise, and we're super excited. Although some of the changes aboard the Majestic aren't to our liking (RIP Crooners!) I'm sure we'll still have a great time.

Stay tuned!

Steve.

Hi CanadianBurger! I was just on the Majestic 7-Day from Rome as well, and saw you quite a few times on the ship. I recognized you from your pictures on the boards but didn't want to bother you :) My husband and I were on our honeymoon and also began with several days in Rome, plus an extra day in Barcelona on the other end.

I experienced many of the same issues as you, particularly with the service at dinner the first night (it really improved quickly) and some of the bartenders who were unfamiliar with drinks that in my opinion are very common and basic. Bellini's was our pre-dinner/evening spot. My husband ordered a White Russian and the bartender had no idea what it was and asked several times if he wanted an Old Fashioned until finally I began to tell him what was in it and Joana swooped in to save the day.

We were also confused and disappointed at the lack of horn sounding upon the first sailaway. We were up on deck with drinks ready to celebrate the exciting first horn and then nothing- my husband, who has only cruised one other time, was confused why I was complaining that it was anti-climactic, but for me it's always the best feeling to hear it and know my journey is beginning

In addition to the mistake in the patter about Harmony, they originally had Alfredo's listed on Deck 7 instead of 6, and corrected it on the 2nd or 3rd day- they had listed it wrong on the paper with available places to eat that we were given upon embarkation as well.

Overall a beautiful ship, the biggest and newest I have ever been on, but I agree that I would not sail on it again. I chose it mainly for the itinerary and timing but I would definitely prefer a ship that has more European or Caribbean themes, more bars and lounges, fewer gaming and shopping spots, and a walking track.

Thank you so much for your review, it was great to read about your experiences which were very similar to ours.

I did a couple of time lapse videos from three sailaways by having my GoPro suction-cupped to the balcony glass, and also video from the bar flair show. I'll try and post them by this weekend. Back at work already, and feeling the jet lag...

Hi everyone. I was on the 4th April sailing.

There are noise restrictions at Rome port which unfortunately did not allow the Love Boat to be played.

We had a very low key sailaway where I felt the CD could have got the crowd going more .

We discovered the VIP Casino bar while walking from the theatre to Bellini Bar . The bar tender was standing with no one to serve as the place was empty

When Bellini was really busy on Champagne Waterfall night , we popped back to get him to make us a drink. He was a lovey guy and experienced in mixing drinks, so we often stopped for a drink to take through to where we wanted to go to if everywhere was busy .
