Muster Drill on Summit

Can someone tell me the experience of the Muster Drill on Summit to Bermuda. If it helps I am on deck 2 borderline forward/mid ship area.

I have been on other cruises from other lines and have gone from standing for almost an hour in Miami heat to sitting the entire time in the Theater.

I do not do well standing in one place for a prolonged period of time, but I'm too stubborn to go to any special needs location.

At least if I get an idea what I can expect then I can plan ahead if needed

Muster drill is conducted inside the ship. You will go to assigned station. Might be MDR, Theater, Casino, Lounge. You don't take a life jacket. You give your cabin number as you enter, see a brief film and receive some instructions. Hardest thing is fighting the crowd when it ends.

Depending on the location, go early, if you want a seat.--- The Casino and Lounges may have limited seating.

I don't do well walking distances or standing either and the crew always lets me take elevator (we're usually on deck 10 or 11) plus they always find me a seat without making a fuss and it's not in a handicapped section. It takes no more than 30 minutes. But I wouldn't go early unless you know where your muster station is, because you don't want to go to the wrong station.

Our muster drill location on the Summit was in the photo lounge and there was no where to sit and it lasted quite a while - some situation they apologized for. I now head down early and find a place to sit even if it's on a window ledge. I stay away from the chairs if they are limited as once I was asked to move for a person with a cane. Ok, I moved, but when I stand in one place my left leg goes numb - no fun at all as then it's not only hard to stand, it's hard to walk when it's time to leave. I'm sure if I asked they would find a place for me to sit but it's that vanity thing and not wanting to actually be "old" that keeps me from asking. So, like I said, I just head down early and camp out. Take a book or use your phone (you're still using land service) and text all of your friends to "remind" them you are on the ship getting ready for a great vacation! :D

Expect an incredibly cheesy muster drill video and an equally inane clip about washing your hands. I'm not kidding. I'd rather be standing on deck with a life jacket than sit through that nonsense, again--LOL

Unless you are in the photo gallery (where no one sits), the key is to get there early. Continually amazed by those who show up seconds before the scheduled drill (or late) and then cry and moan about nowhere to sit. We arrive around 15 minutes early and never have had a problem in 65+ muster drills.

Look on the back of your stateroom door. You'll find directions and instructions regarding your muster station. Go early. Bring lots of patience. Don't try to walk out early... they'll make you sit back down.

I wear a brace on my leg that I like to keep hidden (I am considered young still…) Our muster drill area was on the promenade deck inside on RCCL. No seating anywhere. I asked one of the attendants for someplace to sit or a chair. She looked at me sarcastically and said, it's only 20 -25 minutes. I pulled up my pant leg and said that's about 24 minutes too long! She ran and got me a chair and apologized. No problems if they understand! (just discount the sorry looks from other passengers……)

Usually, 45 minutes to an hour before departure. :)

Muster stations are indicated on the inside of your cabin door.

Never mind the useless mustard dill, I would think its more important to learn your 2 closest fire exits and count the doors between your room and the exits.

We had that horrible location on Infinity,..few seats, overcrowded,  stuffy, way too long! The security  person in charge threatened to confiscate cell phones if we did not pay attention,  Really???

 

Inside Michaels  is  much better but need to go early for a seat,  they crowd folks in and let them sit on the tables where drinks will later be served ugh!

Don't remember what cabin we were in (this post is a couple years old) but they do sometimes switch muster stations so might not even be the same.  And besides, there is nothing you can do about the station they assign you. 😊

Didn’t have the video in May on the Summit.  I think we were in the wine cellar for muster.  It went quickly.
