Newbie - Do you need cash for the casino or just your sign and sail card

I did a search and couldn't find my answer. Can we just use our sign and sail cards at the casino or do we use another form of payment?

 

My niece is cruising for the first time and asked me this. I rarely even walk through the casino so I have no idea.

 

Any other casino tips?

Sail and Sign or cash (paper no coin) may be used in the casino.

 

Personally I use cash. When it is gone it is gone. With the S&S I could get myself into some real trouble.

 

As Port of Tampa posted there is no charge on slots or video poker and 3% at the table.

thanks for the great responses. while my daughter and niece are in the casino I plan on spoiling my 1 year old granddaughter. she's go to be the only kid who gets a cruise for her 1st birthday. we are also celebrating 3 -30 year old birthdays, 1 - 60 year old birthday, and a 8 year wedding anniversary. Can't wait - 9 days to go

Whatever she feels is best. Everything gets converted to electronic (slots) or chips at the tables.

Everybody's strategy is different. We'll take $100 charged to our ship board account. Then immediately transfer it to the Players Bank.

Just kidding. Well, maybe. It all depends on which game she wants to play and what the minimums at those tables are.

She can either put the cash into the slot machine (kind of like a video arcade game), or can apply it to her S&S card.

 

If she applies the cash to her S&S, she can simply follow the directions on the machine "download" money into her Player's Bank. At the end, she can take her S&S card to the cashier's cage to get her money (it doesn't go back onto the S&S).

 

If she puts cash into the machine, as mentioned above, she will have to still create a Player's Bank on her S&S card to retrieve any left-over money or winnings. She will then have to take that to the cashier's cage to get the money.

Most land based casinos don't accept Washingtons or Lincolns at table games so if she plans on playing those she'll need to carry at least Hamiltons (10s). They may accept 5s at table games but it is kind of rude to the other players and the dealer to make them change a bunch of smaller denomination bills because it holds the game up. I believe they machines will take 1s and 5s.

When you 'cash out' on the machine, you don't just walk away. You have to complete the transaction by hitting the button to put the WINNINGS BACK onto your player bank which is tied to your Sail & Sign card. Instead of waiting until the end of the cruise, you can then go to the casino cage and ask them to cash out your funds. Don't forget to get the player bank money from the cage by the last day of the cruise. It won't automatically be applied to your Sail & Sign balance.

THank you for this. I have a PDF which I made for people who are new to Carnival cruising and I'm always looking to update the info when I can. I realize now that I didn't include a section about gambling in the casino so yay. Thanks!

It can be very frustrating in the beginning of the cruise when you aren't familiar with the procedure. Casino hosts are very patient on the first night ...I do wish that you could do...cash in and cash out without having to go through putting it all into your bank and dealing with PIN numbers and such...I still like the "old days" when you carried your bucket of coins to the cashier window :D
