sagosto63 Posted February 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2018 I have 2 adjoining ocean view balconies on the Dec 9th 2018 Allure Sailing with the infamous non-refundable fare. Some close friends want to go with us but can only go the Jan 6th 2019 sailing. RCCL is charging us $100 per cabin (or person?) for a total of $400. The Jan 6th sailing is another $800 more so it's a net loss of $1200. We got the 30% off 3rd and 4th guests deal. I am hesitant to make the change given the $1,200 is just thrown away. Any guesses on whether or not it's worth waiting it out for a better sale to offset the $1,200? My TA said RCCL won't budge on any change fees. Blah. It's only thrown away if you really really really want to sail with those close friends. They are not going to "budge". You knew the terms when you booked. $100 of your deposit is NON REFUNDABLE. When you change cruises, they keep $100 per person. Period. The fact that the January 6 cruise is more expensive than the December 9 cruise is happenstance. It could have turned out to be cheaper. Your money; your choice.
Merion_Mom Posted February 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2018 If you switch now, and the price drops on the January 6 sailing, you can get the price drop until final payment date.
Merion_Mom Posted February 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Without discounts (I don't know if you are entitled to a balcony discount), you can get a Central Park balcony for $1955 with $225 OBC. Sounds like a good price to me. ($2142 for ocean view balcony)
Merion_Mom Posted February 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Go on the Oasis for the same week for $1906 for a CP balcony; $2091 for an ocean view balcony.

Even if booked through the TA? The price I got even before the $175 X 2 OBC was lower than RCCL website. ($2142 for ocean view balcony) Dec 9 was $175 OBC per cabin. Jan 6th is $225 OBC per cabin but the base rate goes from $1762.70 per cabin to $2141 per cabin. If the price drops before final payment date, just have your agent call RC and get the lower price. It's policy. (looks like a net loss of $656 plus $400 = $1056). See? I've already reduced the $1200. Don't you feel better now? And you can save more if you are willing to try a Central Park balcony. There are some nice perks that come with a CP balcony: complimentary lunch for two, bottle of red wine and a learn-to-play lesson at Casino RoyaleSM. I don't blame her. I'll let her decide but hate throwing it away. I wish I waited a bit.

parrotfeathers Posted February 13, 2018 #19 Share Posted February 13, 2018 They'd better be good friends to ask that... I was thinking maybe it was the friends' decision to change the date after they agreed to the original sailing date....
nelblu Posted February 13, 2018 #20 Share Posted February 13, 2018 JR meal is for up to 4 in the stateroom. Bob, that is what I thought. When I attended a future cruise seminar, the head of "on board booking" mentioned that the BB promo (JR) was only good for 2 people. After the session was over, I mentioned to her that it was for all, but she insisted on 2 only. Guess even the people that should know are confused with all their promos.:D
Jasukkie Posted February 13, 2018 #21 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Are your friends aware of how much more this cruise would cost you? It's not so much the deposits but the price difference on the cruise itself. It all depends on what draws you to book a particular date over another. If you are a price-driven cruiser, you should stick with your original plan. If you think the value of sailing with your friends outweighs that, and that's certainly a valid point of view for some, then change your plans. I would caution to consider the friendship, will you feel a little resentful about the money, what if they change their plans and don't sail? A lot can happen in 11 months. RocketMan275 Posted February 13, 2018 #22 Share Posted February 13, 2018 They'd better be good friends to ask that... If they were "good friends" they wouldn't be asking OP to spend another $1200 to cruise with them.
Jimbo Posted February 13, 2018 #23 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Since the point of cancellation seems to be to cruise with their friends, your suggestion is hardly helpful. Don't see why you are saying that, the point is to find a better deal. If it's not on RCCL, cruise on another cruiseline. No one is forceing them to stay on the same cruiseline.
