First RCI cruise....No burgers, no hots, no fries, & pizza is worse than Tombstone

(y) and get out right fired with alcohol in the system. Definately a bad thing getting fired, but more so having alcohol in the body while working.

Well, I’m my own boss, so I won’t get fired in that sense, but I might not get done for my clients what needs to get done . . .

And since you live in my ‘hood you probably wouldn’t want me driving down your street . . . But when I’m on the ship I’m not driving anywhere. . .unless I go on NCL and try the go karts, but I’ll try and do that early so it doesn’t interfere w/my day drinking. . .

My opinion of food on Carnival VS RCI :

MDR - Equal

Pay Restaurants - Equal

Buffet - Carnival is pretty bad (worst of any cruise line), RCI is pretty good

Burgers and Fries - Carnival by a long shot (free and good)

Indian at Tandori - Carnival by a long shot, some of the best Indian ever

Pizza - Carnival by a long shot, excellent pizza

Blue Iguana Mexican on Carnival - Just OK, but at least they have it

Soft Serve - Carnival by a long shot, open 24 hours, or darn close

Room service - Carnival is still free, and food is good, RCI is good too, but fees are involved

First run movies - Free on Carnival, $12.99 on RCI

Food hours of availability - Carnival by a long shot

Love the Alchemy bar on Carnival, Schooners is a close second place on RCI

Carnival usually runs a better Casino too

RCI does a lot of things well, but they have room for improvement in the fast food department.

And what is so hard about keeping the Ice Cream machines open a little longer RCI? Seems like they are closed a lot.

We are Platinum on Carnival and will be Diamond on RCI after our upcoming Baltics cruise!

Carnival also has the Cucina for lunch (made to order pasta, etc), Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ, mongolian wok and the deli all included.

RCCL has deli food available too so that’s a wash but I did forget about the BBQ place and I don’t know anything about Cucina? Either we missed that place or it wasn’t on our ship. I love pasta and would have liked to try it. The Mongolian wok is part of the buffet, right? I’ve only been on one CCL Cruise so I’m still a newbie there! One thing I loved on Carnival was breakfast at the Blue Iguana. The breakfast burritos were amazing but way too big to finish for me.

I agree about the ice cream. My husband loves soft serve and rarely eats it unless he is treating himself on vacation so it stinks that it isn’t available for longer periods of time. As for the room service, Carnival charges for many items and it is per item, not an individual service charge for unlimited items. But I really enjoyed a first run movie in my comfy clothes with a beverage by the pool on Carnival. I haven’t done that on RCCL but when we once went to watch one (changed our minds) there was no charge. Are these in-room movies that cost on RCCL? And can we watch first run movies for free in our stateroom on Carnival? That would be good info to have.

On our last Carnival Owned Cruises (Princess, HAL and Carnival) the movies were free in the room! We watched many movies late at night! RCI wants $12.99 per movie, not worth it. We don't watch movies on RCI ships.

I thought they were for fee in the room on our Carnival cruise but I could have been mistaken. We will have to try it if we go on another Carnival cruise. Thanks for the reply!

Maybe they make you pay on Carnival, its been about two years since our last Carnival Cruise. We did Princess and HAL in the last two years and they were free.

It's true, Royal's pizza is the worst at sea

That makes me nervous! I've only had Carnival pizza and it was disgusting. Ever since then, I stay far away from the pizza on any cruise, but am planning on trying it on the next one.

Sounds like you should cancel as soon as possible.

Lunch is rarely served on RCI. People hoard toast from breakfast to keep from starving.

Does everyone eat lunch at Guy's or the Blue Iguana on your Carnival cruises? On my four Carnival cruises, the ships had the dining room and the Lido available for lunch, also.

:') If all you're eating is burgers, hot dogs, and pizzas, I think it might be time to expand your appetite anyway. But whatever. I have a cousin who is 18 and still orders off the kids menu. It is what it is.

Carnival uses Antimo Caputo Pizzeria Flour, generally considered very good in the pizza business. They make their own dough, and cook the pizzas fresh. RCI uses frozen pizza that has been warmed up. We like thin crust pizza, and enjoy Carnival's pizza over RCI. RCI pizza reminds us of the pizza you get at Sweet Tomatoes. (My wife is the foodie, she told me about the dough. I think I got it right, but whatever it was, it impressed her!)

Love those pizzas at midnight!

Pizza is often a go to for us when we're home so when we are on a cruise, we're fine with choosing other foods. As for the room service being $7.95, it's a flat fee and less than one drink or same as one beer. We've ordered a LOT of food from room service from the menu if we want something different from pizza. We've gotten some great sandwiches, dips, really good burgers, fries, dhips, desserts and salads...all for $7.95. It was nice to have all the options from the menu for $7.95 no matter how much you order and quite the bargain. We've had made from scratch pasta...made and served in front of us in the MDR for lunch on sea days. The Tutti salad is fabulous in the MDR. The burgers on the menu in the MDR are really good. If we are in port, we have lunch there, not back on the ship.

I only sail Carnival when going with a group that the majority want to sail that line. I do not like carnival anymore but gotta give them credit, the free Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana menu items are really good. The free lunchtime pasta bar and wok bar up in the specialty restaurants is good too. Free tasty lunch is about all that Carnival has going for it in my opinion.

Do people really cruise to eat fast food? That has never entered into our reasoning for selecting a cruise. Ship - yes, stops - yes, fast food - no.

I suppose choices are what make the world go round.

I think what people like are options. When on a 7 day+ cruise, it's not always feasible to eat in the MDR for every meal. It's nice to have those "quick service" choices to be there when, and if, you need them. Carnival happens to do them well...Royal not so much.

But I agree with you, I don't cruise for a burger and fries either. But while outside of "traditional" dining hours, it sure would be nice to have the ability to grab something of higher quality than the crap served at the WO cafe or Sorrentos.

Isn't that all the rave with Carnival? All their outstanding fast food options?

Do we cruise for fast food? No. But I don't each much of that type of food at home so going nuts on junk food is part of the fun of cruising for me, for sure. I mean, they don't exactly offer Michelin restaurants and the banquet style dinners are nice but nothing spectacular. I don't sail for fine dining, either.

Dear all,

First RCI cruise......so from my understanding....there is no fresh grilled burgers and fries (like Guy's joint).....cafeteria style burgers and hots probably in some big metal container of "juice" on the buffet and soggy fries......No Blue Iguana or anything comparable to that on RCI.....

What great "FREE" food items does RCI have?!?! What is there to eat for lunch?!?!!? What am I missing here?!?!

Perhaps an ellipsis or two and a few more punctuation marks?

I do not think anyone is saying they cruse to eat fast food. But many people do enjoy eating fast food while cruising. Huge difference.

While that may be the pizza you've received, I think this is more common on what kind of pizza you see (Freedom of the Seas February 2017) - basically cardboard with a bit of red sauce, substandard cheese, and a topping.

Why do you people who feel your so entitled feel everything has to meet your standards of your life and comment on a pizza. If it wasn't pizza it would be something else. I'm so tired of you people and you know who you are, who feel that they must make a comment on everything that they don't like and put it on social media. Do everyone a big favor and enjoy your cruise and keep your opinions to yourself or to your husband or wife. We don't want to hear about every little thing in your life. What did you do before social media. I'll tell you what you did. You shut your pie hole and just kept living and the world was a better place.

Give us all a break and if you don't like something do what we did before social media, nothing. yes i know CC is a forum for all opinions but for once i'm going to tell all of you my opinion. You're on a cruise and this is something that maybe 98% of the population can't do but you're doing it and sure there might be some minor things that go wrong but that's life. Live with it. roll with the punches. Enjoy your cruise and bite your lip when you feel that urge to complain about something so profound like the pizza you feel was made so wrong and just shut up! This is my opinion only but I'm sure you or another social media binge writer will say something negative about what I said so go ahead and make my day.
