Are you able to request a child-like table with YTD?

Recommended Posts

This will be our first time using YTD. I know for assigned dining Carnival usually does a good job of matching up cruisers based on age and what not. We enjoy sitting with others and getting to know fellow cruisers but have no interest in other people's children, if I'm being honest. When we check in can we request a table with no children? I understand that might entail a wait but I'd rather wait then have to pretend I care how Timmy's soccer team did this year.

you can request a child free table. of course, that doesn't stop people from talking about their children that may be in the ocean club or fully grown. even grandparents might discuss their children, so you might not be totally free of their influence.

We also don't want to eat with kids around so always get a table for two. Don't want a large table even if there aren't any kids seated there as we have found many adults can only manage to talk about their kids and grand kids.and nothing else.:(:(

That is another benefit of late dining, there are far fewer kids in the MDR than there are at early dining. Or you could do what was already mentioned and eat late using YTD. Keep in mind even if you are at a kid free table doesn’t mean there won’t be kids at a table next to you. If you are looking to avoid kids on a cruise, you shouldn’t be cruising on Carnival.

Nonsense! There are plenty of kid free venues on Carnival.

I have been on 22 cruises on Carnival and I have yet to be on a cruise without seeing kids frequently every day, even though I spend a lot of time at Serenity and various bars. If you sail on Carmival a lot you know they are a very kid friendly cruiseline. My point was and still is, if you don’t want to be around kids, Carnival is not the best choice. I guess you could spend all your time in the casino when it is open to avoid kids, but that won’t work if you don’t like smoke.

OP here... Um, I know kids will be on the cruise and have zero issue with that. I think it's great how Carnival caters to all ages. I just want my dinner companions to be adults. I've never done YTD before, didn't know how specific requests could be.

we did YTD for the fist time on my last cruise. there were 4 of us and (one of us was a 2 1/2 year old :p) ...but, we were able to request a table just for the 4 of us. we went basically at the same time every night and with the exception of 1 night, we had the exact same table, same wait staff and same section. there was one night where we were too late to get it. it was really nice how they tried to accommodate us, even with YTD, to give us the same location (even though we did NOT ask for it) so the waiters still got to know us, had apple juice ready for the toddler (who was really well behaved) . it's something I thought we would lose with YTD, but we didn't. looking forward to doing it again on my next cruise .

OP, it's the luck of the draw. When you walk up to the host stand advise them of your preference for joining other adults only for dinner. There usually is an open " community " table at YTD that you can join. Whether our not there are kids seated there is the luck of the draw part. Good luck.

Do you have an age limit you don't want to sit with? For example, our sons are 14 and 20 and have been cruising since they were 2 and 8 respectively and are now Platinum. No phones at our table except to take food porn. The youngest is an athlete but if we are talking sport, it is NFL, MLB etc. The older is an extremely intelligent college biology major who is looking to study abroad for his masters. Would they be too young? How about people in their 20's? I am not questioning your choice, just wondering if you need to be specific about who you wish to sit with and when.

We avoid the issue at dinner by doing YTD and requesting a table for 4. Once we find a good wait staff, we request them each night. We do eat breakfast/brunch with others (those are the tables with the good window views) so we find a nice balance of meeting and chatting with others (usually travel related) and having a private dinner.

I've been on over 40 Carnival cruises and I have always been able to find a quiet place when I want. I do not do the Casino.

I go to the adult comedian shows and use the adult only pool area and I NEVER sail on holidays or the summer time.

Do I see kids? Of course.

But as I said, if you want a kid free zone, they are there.

I used to mostly sail on Princess, but I find Carnival a more relaxed and fun atmosphere and kids have not been an issue for me.

This is what I was thinking...Before we had kids we would have preferred to eat with adults, if eating in a group. However middle school and above is not the same thing as eating with a 4 year old, and probably never would have had an issue eating with older children.

We are traveling with our 5 year old, and my sister's family that has a 5 and 7 year old the week after next... Doing My Time Dining for sure this time, because we do not want to subject anyone else to that mess.

SILLYJILLY, understand your point that with a little effort you can avoid kids for the most part. However, there are a lot of things I like to do like trivia, shows, piano bar, PG comedy shiows, etc. where kids will be present. Personally I have never had an issue with any kids on a cruise, but the OP might feel differently. Speaking of comedy, the best comedy show I have attended on Carnival was a PG show by Jodi White. Frequently the PG shows are better than the R rated shows in my opinion.
