Refund of Refundable OBC

It has been over 6 weeks since I returned from my Sapphire Princess cruise.  I have not received the check yet.  It states on my Stateroom Account "...forwarded to you by mail within 4-6 weeks".  On two previous Princess cruises this year, I received the checks within 3 weeks.

I sent an email a few days ago and called today.  The agent told me to give it another 2 weeks and if it doesn't show up call back.

Have anyone else had this long delay?

As you know those envelopes are pretty well disguised. We waited over six weeks one time, so now we get our cash before we leave the ship.

Yes, I am familiar with how the envelopes look.

My statement stated "Please visit the Passenger Services Desk to collect any refundable credit balance under $25.00 prior to disembarking".  I didn't realize that you could get the cash on the ship if the refundable credit was more than $25.00.  That's nice to know.

I have never quite understood the difference between refundable on board credit and non-refundable on board credit.  I would very much appreciate an explanation of the difference.

Refundable OBC's are Loyalty OBC, Military OBC, any OBC that you purchase. Others are non-refundable. The system automatically uses non-refundable OBC first, then refundable. Any credit balance remaining that is refundable is refunded.

Thank you for your information!

On my upcoming Royal Princess cruise, I have an on board credit from Princess which was a perk of my booking, a Carnival Corporation Shareholder on board credit, and an on board credit as a gift from my Travel Agency.

Using the information in your post, I assume that the only refundable credit would be the gift from my travel agent.  Do you agree?

Look in the Personalizer for your cruise. Under "Payments & Credits" scroll down to "Credits". It will tell you which are refundable and which are not.

Often, the credit from your TA won't show until you board.

On our trans-Atlantic cruise, we had a refund of port fees. That's another type of refundable OBC. We also received goodwill OBC for a change in the itinerary. That was also refundable.

It took seven weeks for us to get the check for the refundable OBC we did not spend on our cruise. It was a nice chunk of change.

Don't count on it. As you read that is not the policy.

Call back and escalate.   We had a refund a couple years ago - I had prepurchased OBC because the exchange rate that we booked our cruise at was very favourable as compared to the current rate.  We added extra OBC with the intention of booking shore excursions for all 4 of us.   Well things turned out that we didn't book Princess excursions after all, so we had a good chunk of OBC left to refund us.   I waited the 6 weeks then started calling.   It took forever.  Long story short, the Princess folks could see what I was owed but they had trouble getting in touch with their 3 party cheque cutting company representatives - quite a few calls later finally they figured out that for some reason that they never fully explained to me, our refund was "suspended" or put on "hold" and it took them quite the effort to issue the refund.   Princess staff apologized a lot, the cheque company not so much.

Call.  Call again.  Get the names of the people you talk to.

I dealt with:   Princess' customer relations dept:

Or

Colo Cruiser: How can you say it's "not the policy" when the Patter and the final folio statement say that is what to do.

I've collected <$25.00 a couple of times. Other times I got to the casino, play a little & cash out. Or I wait for the check. Depends on my mood.

I said it is NOT the policy to give cash back over $25!   🙄

And to say that they will is wrong.

(did you see the red text in the post I quoted?)

Wow, the military OBC is refundable? That is great news to hear although it usually gets sucked up by excursions. At what Captain Circle level do you get loyalty OBC? I don't see it listed in any of the benefit descriptions listed on the Princess website.

It is not listed (at least not obviously) anywhere on the Princess web site.

It starts with your 21st cruise at $25/cabin.

T.A. OBC may or may not be refundable. Depends on how the T.A. purchased it. Sometimes T.A. OBC can actually be part of a group promotion and that is not refundable. Other times it is purchased by T.A.'s using their points. Check the cruise personlizer under payments and credits.

Thanks!  I looked at my account.   I am relatively sure that my TA on board credit will be refundable, even as it is not shown on my account until I embark.  None of the other $400 total on board credits will be refundable.  In addition, I have a specialty restaurant dinner freebie as part of my booking.  I have booked the Crown Grill for one evening and have had that charged to my credit card.  Will that charge be erased automatically?

I am interested in booking The Enclave for the cruise.  But, I need to see what it offers first.  I do plan on booking Sabitini's and the Seafood Restaurant once on board.  No interest in booking shore excursions:  been there and done that for those ports.  I will have a "bar bill", but it is almost embarrassing to have this amount of on board credit.  I don't want to waste it.

Usually I get the  refund in 2 weeks.  No later than 3 weeks tops.

Keep on it with Princess.

Good luck.

It isn't Captain Circle level per se. Although by the time you qualify for it you'll be Elite.

It goes by the number of cruises.

 20 to 31 = $25 OBC

 32 to 41 = $50 OBC

 42 to 51 = $75 OBC

 52 and over = $100 OBC

You can cancel now (I think) OR wait till you're on board and ask the person at whatever specialty restaurant is open on embarkation day to change your CG booking to Sabatini's.

The sea food "restaurant" (Crab Shack) is less expensive than CG or Sabatini's, so use OBC to book that one. There will be a sign up table in front of the entrance to the buffet the day of or the day before it's held. It's held in the aft section of the buffet.
