Muster - Can you request alternate location?

For our sailing on the Horizon, our muster station is the casino.  My daughter is allergic to smoke - I called and emailed Carnival.  Their response was for me to  talk to Guest Services when we board.

 

Has anyone been able to request a different muster location?  If yes, can you please share how?

Unlikely since they will tell you there is no smoking during muster.

while there is no smoking, the effects of any smoking still lingers in the air and on the machine making the area feel very musky and horrible.

It is doubtful even if you produce a Dr.'s note that they will let the cabin your daughter is in change muster stations. The best you can hope for is to attend the mobility and comprehension impaired muster. The only drawback here is now her cabin will be as a special needs cabin and still need to report to the casino case of a real emergency. Just to note my experience from having to do muster in the casino is they will have the passengers assigned there either standing by the tables, along the pathway through the area, or at the bar (in other words no sitting at the machines) so there is an unobstructed (yeah right when your 3-4 people deep) of the crew member leading the drill.

Many on here have said that they did what Carnival told you to do.  Go to Guest Services when you board.  They will  tell you where to meet.  If I remember correctly, only your daughter and one other person will be able to change though.  Anyone else in your party will have to go to the casino where  they were assigned.

FYI, you don't have to have your card scanned at the Muster Station you are assigned - - we meet at the special needs area because of my mobility issues and our cards are scanned there. We do not go to the assigned muster area first to have our cards scanned and then go to the special needs area. I'm just clarifying what someone posted earlier. I am not saying the OP should go to another Muster Station to get their cards scanned and not go to the casino. That is something they need to work out with Guest Services. The life boats hold just so many people and people are assigned to specific life boats based on their cabin location.

And you can't believe this question Why? Granted, the time involved for the muster drill is short. However her daughter may be allergic to the residual smoke that she may have a reaction to it. I don't have children and I am an ex-smoker and even I can understand her requesting information from the "experts" on the board.

Mithutri, I hope you get an answer from Carnival as to how to handle this.

I wish they would note the muster station when you choose your cabin. I have 2 cabins book on the 7th floor 5 doors apart. One for my husband and I and one for by boys (19 and 16). On the booking I am listed with our 16yr old and My husband is listed with our 19 yr old. Paid off cruise and printed boarding passes and only then did I find out that we are in different muster areas. I am not concerned with the muster drill but what if there is a real emergency? My little family will be separated! I would not have chosen these rooms if I had known and now there is no availability to move. I called and was told the same thing...."check with guest services after you board"

 I've always heard that "in the case of a real emergency", families will board lifeboats together.  Let Guest Services know you were assigned different muster stations, I know it's PITA.  The other alternative is to keep phoning Carnival until you get an agent (or supervisor) who can link the cabins together.  You may want to check if your MDR dining table if that's what dinner option you picked is the same for both cabins as well.  Good Luck!

 

And I wouldn't worry about a "real emergency".  Be prepared for it sure, but don't worry about it.  Chances are so negligible, it's just wasted energy.  Relax, you're on a cruise!

You and 100 other guests. Guest services is a zoo the first few hours because of situations like this. Try to get this resolved prior to sailing.

We do have FTTF and I have to go to guest services to get additional keys for our rooms so i figure i will just ask then. I do understand that they probably won't be able to do anything about it but I just think this is info that should be available when you choose your cabin.

If you are reassigned to the special needs area, that becomes your muster and that is were you scan in. You just can't stop any any muster and be scanned.

That is strange. When i emailed the special needs department about my mobility issues for my upcoming cruise, they said that my card needs to be scanned at the assigned muster. station Maybe the special needs  department is like the carnival call center where you always get a different answer whenever you talk to someone

It's really no different than talking to the general CS call center #, or emailing the excursions office or other land based corp office for the cruise. They know their "specialty area" responses and how it should be handled on board backwards and forward, but when it comes to how related but adjacent procedures and other things actually work on board it's a supposition unless the person answering has personally experienced the same on a Carnival cruise.
