Ovation did have some problems with staff when she first came to Australia.  Even my 12 yp noticed. She thought it was because the cruise was the cruiseco charter and that royal staff would get on after that cruise.  The staff were not trained abd therefore not prepared.  They didn't understand the love some westerners have for bread rolls. 

 

Tbh, on that cruise from Singapore to oz, I had difficulties with staff.  Both Western and Asian.  They seemed to shout and lecture a lot.   

 

But spectrum would do just fine if she is sent anywhere else. 

 

I'm in the process of cancelling my April and May European cruises and would be thrilled if they would send spectrum to oz.  It would give royal a chance to gauge winter demand. 

I was on one of Ovations first cruises in Australia and the staff were bad,very bad.

The bar staff didn’t know what was the difference between red and white wine was.

Let alone how to make cocktails.
‘The whole food and beverage department couldn’t handle western drinking demands.

Next season they had the mobile bars full of ice and seemed to solve the problem.

 

Do you think they could do New Zealand in winter?

 Wouldn’t it be good to see fiord land covered in snow.

It would just be fantastic to have a royal ship here in oz over winter.  Possibly it could do a few circumnavigations of NZ in the winter.  It might be too rough to do the two day crossing (twice) for every cruise.  I think a lot of aussies might be tempted, even though Japan is well and truly trying to ruin the reputation of cruising as a whole.   I'm really angry at Japan, but I reckon it'll mean lower cruise prices for the next two years at least.

Similar to Chinese guests most of the Chinese crew goes anyway sooner or later and they are also not able to bring new Chinese crew on board.

They have no Norway cruises and similar on offer from Southampton in all 2020. Would be a good option for Spectrum or Quantum. I believe one ship goes there and the other one to Canada and US West Coast.

That’s a good point, a Quantum class would be great in the Fjords

Spectrum is going to Australia, and will offer complimentary cruises out of Sydney in support of Australia's First Responder Community, who worked tirelessly over many weeks of the bush fire Crisis, and Millennium is repositioning to the west coast earlier and will offer a series of cruising for heroes in support of the California firefighters, and other veterans throughout March and April.

Spectrum has to go under serious renovation to make it suitable for non-Asian markets and Royal wouldn’t remove Ovation from Alaska especially because in order to get to Europe, they would have to go all the way around the world through the Suez. My bet is that it might be Wonder pre-inaugural for TAs.

My bet is on Spectrum.

Spectrum and Millennium to be redployed to Australia and California for 2 months for Humanitarian efforts to support those affected by recent crises in both areas. They will offer complimentary sailings to volunteers and first responders community.

 

Who knows if the situation doesn't get better, Spectrum will continue her deployment in Australia

My guess should read for Anthem or Spectrum. Not Ovation she is on Alaska.

Royal Caribbean Cruises announced it will dedicate two ships to "humanitarian efforts in Australia and California" to support those affected by recent crises in both areas.

Both the Spectrum of the Seas and Celebrity Millennium, which are out of service due to the coronavirus outbreak, will redeploy for these sailings. 

 

The 2019-built Spectrum of the Seas will move Australia and be deployed on complimentary cruises sailing from Sydney in support of Australia's first responder community, according to a statement.

The ship has been out of service since mid January due to the coronavirus outbreak, with cruises cancelled through mid March.

 

"When things go wrong, this is a company that wants to find a way to help," said Richard Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises. "At Royal Caribbean, we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to use our ships in a positive way during difficult times."

 

"We are in a fortunate position to offer these brave and selfless members of the Australian community the opportunity to join us for a few days and let them relax and unwind in the company of other volunteers and first responders," added Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. "By welcoming and accommodating them aboard Spectrum of the Seas, we hope to recognize their contribution and offer them our hospitality."

 

Fain said Royal Caribbean was working with its suppliers to deliver one million N-95 protective masks into China for government distribution into affected areas.

"We admire the all-out efforts of the Chinese government and people to address this crisis, and we want to bring our resources to bear to help their efforts," Fain said.

 

In addition, the Celebrity Millennium is moving to the West Coast of the U.S. earlier than previously scheduled ahead of her Alaska program and will offer a series of "Cruising for Heroes" voyages in support of California firefighters, other first responders and veterans. 

 

These voyages will run through March and April. A variety of three-, four- and five-night sailings have been added to the brand's offerings to travel the breathtaking Pacific Coast. The sailings will leave from Los Angeles and details will be announced soon.

 

Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, said, "While the circumstances have not been what any of us would have wanted, we now have the opportunity to show the State of California our stunning Celebrity Millennium and do some good in the process by honoring and helping our everyday heroes who do so much for so many. Celebrity Millennium is a beautifully appointed ship and was recently revolutionized. It's exciting to share it with this market and to honor the men and women who come to the aid of others every single day."

 

Royal Caribbean also announced it plans to dedicate a ship in China to a series of complimentary sailings to thank first responders and medical personnel when the outbreak is under control.

I think RCI assumes things will be normal enough that by the time of the next sailing (in 19 days), they could return to normal sailings. Don't think they'll decide things for a bit.

That will have to managed by the agencies involved. 

 

Firefighters came from all over Australia to help so if an agency in Melbourne or Perth for example can spare some of their firefighters to battle fires on the East coast I'm sure they have spare them for 4 or 5 days for a complimentary cruise.
