Rare lyndarra Posted January 16, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2020 https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/carnival-australia-cruise-pornographic-entertainment-passengers-claim/349187ff-0425-4d74-95fe-8ba8993b0e27 I saw this on ACA last night. To me it looked like a pretty poor attempt by the CD passed as "entertainment". Another media "beat up" or did they get it right for a change? From what I saw it appeared to be, at the least, poor taste. Anyone on here witness this?
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 16, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2020 It was a beat-up from what I've been reading elsewhere. The show was the Quest, an adults late night show and the people taking part were passengers who volunteered. From the snippet I saw you'd see nothing that you wouldn't see around the pool every day. The couple also claimed they were charged $20 for bottled water ... and omitted to say that was for four large bottles, which are usually $6.50 each. peter1956 Posted January 16, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2020 Agree, just a beat up. Hate to think what these people would have thought of the "Love Riot" show on Pacific Explorer.
Aus Traveller Posted January 17, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2020 I saw the item on A Current Affair and was surprised it was on Princess. Young male passengers were on stage dress only in their underpants and bras. Some of them were dancing suggestively. The people who complained also said the host of the show asked women to kiss women and men to kiss men. I suggest that this segment we saw filmed was only part of the show and it might might have been really funny as part of a show when everyone was relaxed. However, just this segment beaming into a person's living room appeared to be in bad taste. Certainly not pornographic as has been suggested. I understand that it was a late night show that would have been advertised as for adults only. For adult shows, I have always heard the CD suggest "If you are easily offended it might be better if you stay away".
Mr&MrsCookie Posted January 17, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2020 I think its a case of someone looking for some compensation plus of course the media love to bag (and make up stories) about cruiselines. The idiots apparently were told it was an adults show so if they were easily offended why did they go. A couple of ports were missed - due to weather - but apparently it was the cruise from hell!. gbenjo Posted January 17, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Probably not to everyone’s taste but no one was forced to watch, so get up and walk out ,simple.

I don't think the couple who complained would have any hope of getting compensation and I don't think they were after any. It appeared that they wanted their 15 minutes of fame on TV. To be fair to them, they had both been badly injured in a car accident and apparently had a terrible year. The cruise was to relax and get away from all the bad stuff that had happened. Then there were problems on the cruise.

Oh, and horror of horrors, they complained it was Frantelle, and not even good water like Mt Franklin or Fiji Water 😮 The 'show' that they were outraged over showed footage that looked typical of similar late night adult shows held on other ships/lines. Not everyone's cup of tea, but hardly worthy of being on TV. Ports missed - ship happens. Imagine being related to them, or having to work at the next desk to them 🙂
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 17, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Just a thought ... at most(all?) of the shows I've been to on Princess they clearly announce that video and flash photography is not permitted. With a show like that, involving passengers, it may even be possible that they stated that no photography is allowed. Princess might be within their rights to sue that couple for breaching the conditions of attending the show! 🤣
SinbadThePorter Posted January 17, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 17, 2020 The point of the Quest is that it is in bad taste. How could you run a "tasteful" Quest. Why would anyone expect to see a tasteful Quest? I don't expect anything better from ACA, which is tripe, but I'm finding whinging cruisers tiresome.

At the crew show, I have heard it announced that video is allowed because they are not professional entertainers.

Why even buy bottled water to begin with if they don't value it? Then have a whinge about that as well. As for the overall topic, as with others that's the subjective thing about comedy/entertainment. Some things you like, some you don't. I don't see what the big offence is there; if it doesn't appeal, move on.
NSWP Posted January 17, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 17, 2020 (edited) Unusual for Princess to put on such poor entertainment, but at the end of the day no body was forced to patronise the 'show.' Perhaps it was a trial run for when Golden Princess goes to P&O Straya, sort of show they might like.😮 Edited January 17, 2020 by NSWP

It's almost a nautical tradition. I've been on P&O several times, but I can't recall seeing the Quest featured anywhere. Maybe they leave it to the professionals of Love Riot. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted January 17, 2020 #15 Share Posted January 17, 2020 (edited) I wonder what their reaction would have been to some of the antics in the cruise classic "If I were not upon the sea" which can get a bit naughty at times. 😮😂 Edited January 17, 2020 by OzKiwiJJ
Bubbeh Posted January 17, 2020 #16 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Not everyone is suited to cruising and cruising is not suited to everyone. Possibly cruising is not for this unfortunate couple. It was terrible that they've had such an awful year but, honestly, I'm somewhat amazed that a 13 night cruise to NZ could be anybody's 'cruise of a lifetime'. NZ is lovely and cruising is lovely but it's not that special and I mean no disrespect at all by saying this. Maybe, I'm being harsh but I tend to think of a 'cruise of a lifetime' as being a WC or similar event based cruise. Whereas, an NZ cruise is a great way to relax see our closest neighbour, experience new places and cultures and enjoy a couple of weeks at sea. Would I have gone to see this show? Absolutely not, but then I know what does and doesn't sit well with me. If I'd accidentally turned up at the show, thinking it was something different, I'd make a hasty retreat.
Aus Traveller Posted January 17, 2020 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Maybe the "cruise of a lifetime" were words written by the producer from A Current Affair. 😁

Docker123 Posted January 17, 2020 #21 Share Posted January 17, 2020 If I was a participant in the strip show they would most certainly have something to complain about.
Brisbane41 Posted January 17, 2020 #22 Share Posted January 17, 2020 They need to get over it and move on. The cruise lines put on shows for everyone. Some may be cheap and tacky and for adult audiences but there are people who like that sort of stuff. You got to look at it this way. If those people are entertained they are not in anyone else's way. As Princess said it was advertised for a adult audience. If they don't like that sort of thing then don't go plain and simple. No one to blame but themselves. After 39 cruises now I know what to expect and what to do. I don't go to events I wont like.

NSWP Posted January 17, 2020 #24 Share Posted January 17, 2020 Carnival Corp should put the 'strip show' on their Cunard ships, imagine the uproar on QM2 ? The old codgers would be choking on their G&T's and canapes.🤣
