If I was on the ship I wouldn’t be leaving my cabin, voluntarily. There will be some stuck in inside cabins .. no fresh air .. no daylight... and someone posted they preferred that to being at home and doing chores!!! koolforkatz Posted February 5, 2020 #227 Share Posted February 5, 2020 But if they're confined to their cabins, which you would assume, who is feeding them? I mean, if everyone is under quarantine. Unless health professionals from ashore are looking after them? I can't even imagine.

dog Posted February 5, 2020 #231 Share Posted February 5, 2020 A good lesson to be prepared with an extra supply of your medications. It sounds like Princess is trying their best and from being in Japan, it is one of the best places to deal with this...IMHO.

They have tested those that they identify as close contact, roughly 230 according to another article. The 10 identified came from the 31 completed tests, they are awaiting the results from others. A negative test does not mean that someone is clear of the virus according to the CDC. Testing those that have not developed symptoms would not say for sure that they are clear. Thus the waiting through the incubation period. Edited February 5, 2020 by npcl

That's pretty unfortunate then.
Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted February 5, 2020 #235 Share Posted February 5, 2020 What is super alarming to me is that 1/3 of the rest reports that have been returned are positive (10 of 31). There are still 200 tests we are waiting kn results for. How many does diamond princess hold? They have only ran 230 tests - there must be 1,000s on that ship that haven’t even been tested. The numbers are mind boggling.

I did read something somewhere saying that the Coronavirus test did sometimes show false positives and false negatives. 1

This is why we don't cruise unless we have a balcony. No one is getting off that ship until they've been quarantined. I swear the crud I caught on the Star Princess to Hawaii laid me out for almost a month. I'm going out on a limb here, but this virus is far worse than anything we have seen in our life time. Some of us who have upcoming cruises may not make it on the ship. There's no stopping this coronovirus. A vaccine is many months away.

You are a carrier and can spread the virus thinking you don't have the coronovirus. Kinda like a Typhoid Mary.

Buffet touching spoons, handrails, elevator (droplets in the air), shows, casino, on and on spreading it. It's not only paying passengers who are in trouble, but the whole crew! I don't believe the ship's doctor and his/her crew are equipped to handle this kind of contagious outbreak that are killing people on land and fast.

The numbers are mind boggling. The ship had 3,711 passengers and crew. Probably the first people tested were those who had been in contact with the infected passenger. The worrying thing is that he had been on the previous cruise and didn't show symptoms until 6 days after he disembarked. I don't know if it will be announced, but maybe the 10 infected people are crew who came into contact with him.
Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted February 5, 2020 #242 Share Posted February 5, 2020 And the additional 10 who have tested positive potentially been in contact with all. Such high density populations on cruise ships. Alarming to me.
qqwer123 Posted February 5, 2020 #243 Share Posted February 5, 2020 Ok so I’m in contact with friends on this ship. They are going to be on this ship for another 14 days. They were supposed to get off and they are now in quarantine. They are ok and not sick but have unpacked their suitcases and are trying to make the best of this situation.

Such high density populations on cruise ships. Alarming to me. Think about it. If this virus is now a R0-4 (possibly higher), that means for every 4 people the 1 infected comes into contact with they have infected them. Do the math. It multiplies rapidly, that's why so many are infected and dropping. I read where a family of 5 who were quarantined in their home were ALL found dead.

AlanF65 Posted February 5, 2020 #248 Share Posted February 5, 2020 I would go stir crazy not being able to leave my room for 14 days, pretty tough to get a decent walk in. These poor people being stuck where they are, there are only so many movies and TV shows and books you can read. I wonder if those with balconies are allowed out on the balconies or they are closed off.

You aren't in contact with anyone else but whoever is in your cabin. Maybe Princess will open up the internet for everyone to use. I suppose room service would be delivering all the food to cabins. What a mess! I always pack laundry soap, so I guess I would be doing DH and my undies in the sink and hang them out on the balcony to dry. Heh, improvise.
