Sorry to hear Pat.

Pauline had a basal cell skin cancer on her chest removed.

It just looked like a spot from an insect bite which wouldn't disappear

She has fair skin and used to have a couple of sunbed sessions to get a bit of colour before we went on holiday.

We were sun worshippers then but not since she had the BCSC about 7 years ago.

Yup, no fun.  😞  Happy for Pauline they caught it early.

Luckily all of mine were basal....it's the Melanoma possibility that has me scared each time I go to the Derm.  Doc annual appointment.  😮

I'm blonde with blue eyes.  I tan very easy.  Most people cannot believe how tan I get since I'm fair skin in winter.   As I have been on beaches since I was born and love outdoor activities I had some spots if concern on my chest and shoulders.  My Dermo prescribed

http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/drug-info/fluorouracil-cream.aspx

Omg I could gross everyone out with pictures of my raw red skin that I have for 4 to 6 weeks of using this cream.

When all done and healed I have baby soft skin in places I applied.

After I was done, doc told me most people dont make it passed 2 weeks of the treatment he was proud I made it and said my skin will be good for another 50 years in those locations.

Just last week I asked by phone if he could prescribe another tube as I figure I'm working from home I'll put some on my forehead and nose.  It will get all scabby and oozy by week 2,  then around week 3 or 4 top 2 or 3 layers of skin will peel off, its gross and very painful, but well worth the torture so I can continue to enjoy my beach and outdoor activities.

We know the Fluorouracil cream treatment very well...or at least Bucky does.  He has never had the deep cuts like I have, and since I have been staying out of the sun as much as I can for years now, have not needed it myself.

Bucky has already gone through 3 of the treatments.  Face, neck, arms, chest.  Agree the face one was pretty bad.  It also made him moody and feeling like he had a mild case of the flu.  Not fun to be around when he was doing that therapy....he is a bit of a baby when not feeling good.  😮 o

For me the worst part was the chest and shoulders and lower neck area.  I had Tough time turning my head as skin tightened.   Was very difficult to put clothes on, definitely no bra straps, but hopefully Bucky doesnt wear one. Lol!

I definitely felt yucky for a while between being all gooey with ointment and the chemo cream I was miserable then.

The arms were easy.  I just started the face...only doing forehead and nose for now.

Doc said maybe someday I will want to try the treatment for upper back.  Not sure as I sleep on my back.

Oh...I should probably ask about that small oddly placed mole, same location. My last dermatologist was terrible (and lazy) I will have to inquire about one, when new insurance kicks in Feb. Thanks for mentioning that.

That was where mine was.  Upper side of my nose, near corner of my eye. Was not a mole, but like a tiny bug bite.  Got black and blue pretty bad after treatment.  Neighbor was teasing Bucky that he was beating up on me.  😮  Got a lot of strange looks at the grocery store, etc.  😖

That was the tough part for Bucky as well.  Could not get comfortable sleeping.  Many times he gave up and slept in the recliner.

And yup...no bra for him...thankfully I don't see him digging in my lingerie drawers.  😄

Wow...disappear for a day and this place turns into a dermatologist's waiting room.  Might as well join in.  Put me in the fair skin and freckles category.  Had a basil cell spot removed from my thigh about 15 years ago.  Not much else other than an occasional freeze of an Actinic Keratoses, aka pre-cancerous spot (had to look that one up to remember what it was called).  Sun and fair skin definitely do not mix.

My mother was a big sun worshipper growing up and had many spots removed from her face.  She eventually did the full facial peel.  I still recall the tomato pizza like picture of her face from 2-3 days after the procedure.  Yuck.  Once healed, she looked at least 10 years younger.  There are better ways though to look younger.

LOL...yeah, that's typical on these boards now...certainly can't talk about our recent cruise experience.  😞

At least pretty much anything goes on this thread...from weather, scenery, sunset/sunrises, food porn, grilling, new furniture, remodeling, cats, dogs, Foxes, etc.    It's all fun.  😉   Day in the life of.  🤭

Well I might as well jump in LOL I'm going back to the Dermatologist Thursday for the second procedure on this "thing" (for lack of better term) on my back.  It wasn't cancer but had gotten very large and painful.  Will be happy to be rid of it.  Also having a skin scan.  I'm overdue and am concerned as a couple spots look suspicious.  All those Florida beach vacations in the 70's and 80's before everyone wore sunscreen are to blame.  I avoid the sun like the plague now.

Most of mine came from too many days in the dunes of Lake Michigan in my youth.  Hardly ever any sunscreen, got sun burned all the time and thought it was "cool" as it would make me tan.  😮 Little did I know. 😞

I grew up spending every summer day at beach house at Spray Beach NJ.  My Mom was a school teacher so as soon as school was out we lived at shore house and my Dad would come down on weekends and his vacation time.   I was on the beach for hours everyday.

No sunscreen then.  In fact in the 80s when I was a teenager I used baby oil when sunbathing on the beach.

Nowadays I use good tanning oil with sunscreen.  I always apply #30 to my face.

The fake tan Pauline puts on now looks better than the burning sun of our youth.

For us it was mainly 2-3 weeks in Spain 9 hours a day in scorching sun because we didn't get a lot of sunny days in England.

I go to the dermatologist this week and I'm going to ask about the cream for my chest and shoulders. Thanks!

Another thanks for Dani.

Marietta, every time I see your "handle", I have to make a "mental switch", since many "centuries" ago, when I first saw it, I was sure that you're Dani (like me), short from Danielle....

I'm actually a Dani[ela], which in French is Danielle😁.

My mother wanted to name me "Davida", after her late father David, but decided to be realistic and practical -- being named "Davida" in a Communist and quite Anti-Semitic country like Romania, was not "recommended"....

I like my shortened name (and my uncle, who was already living in Israel had a boy who was properly named David).

Mike and his family belonged to Barnegat Light Yacht Club and were always sailing on the water. They also lived on the water so sun was a constant thing for him. He has had 3 mohs surgeries. One time they had to go in 7 times to make sure they got it all and then fixed it with plastic surgery.

When you all are finished talking about skin cancers you can start on cataracts from all the past ultraviolet light exposure. Years ago the need for protective sunglasses wasn't much known any more than the dangers of baby oil with iodine mixed in.

Charlie has had two moths a d a bunch of freezing pre-cancerous things.  No fun.

Dani, when I first joined CC I had to change my screen name quickly and that was the first thing to come to mind.  Danielle is one of my granddaughters and we call her DaniDanielle.  When I was a young back in the Dark Ages, one of my best friends was Danielle.  Back then there was no one named Marietta or Danielle.  We always knew when We were in trouble and heard our names, no one else to blame!!!

My eye doctor always told me to wear sunglasses and I did.  Don’t know if that helped but have not had to deal with cataracts, yet anyway.  Charlie had both eyes done two years ago and all went well.

I always wore sunglasses in the sun.

My eye surgeon said I have a mild cataract which he said he would remove before doing my vitrectomy operation.
