Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

I almost felt like living through the Wizard of Oz tornado scene.  The storm finally let up today with just a few showers lingering.  There were thousands of customers without power but we were fortunate that it didn’t go out on us.

Our son was one of those who lost power.  It went out after we had a FaceTime call with them last night, but it was back on this morning.  Lots of rain at their place, but no major damage.

Going to see the ice show in a short while.

Mark, I think that Royal has had complaints about volume issues at Hiro. Last evening it was quite OK, and not as heart throbbing as I was expecting it to be.

Good to hear they turned the volume down.

Thank goodness all three of you are all safe and didn't have any damage or outages from the storm!

A few years ago, we were on a cruise. I think it was also in February. And we came home to this:

And we said, "Oh. It must have been windy while we were gone!"

It is all fixed now. NewFence.thumb.JPG.3e4f002def626a7c39fd4333b13823e1.JPG

☺️And the creeping fig has grown back nicely, and almost covers the wall, again. It was actually much better to be home for this one and be able to keep an eye on things.

@dani negreanu Please rest assured that nothing you could share about the horrors you are experiencing would be considered “party pooping.”  This is the thread YOU started.  We all have shared highs and lows of our lives.  You were so kind to me when I was worried about Minnie’s surgery…reassuring me that it wasn’t silly for me to love a cat so much.  When you post, whether cheerful or sad, we are all so relieved to hear from you!  Since there is nothing other than prayers we have to help you, please allow us the opportunity to share in your joys and your sorrows.

Perfectly said.  Thank you for so eloquently stating what so many of us are feeling.🤗

Thanks, Arzeena.  We are fine.  I guess we missed a lot of the bad weather while we were gone last week.  It was pouring rain when we landed Saturday night and then it rained all day and night Sunday with wild gusty winds   The Atmospheric River has moved on now to Southern California where it is expected to be flooding, mudslides, power outages and record-setting rainfall totals.  You know the song that goes…

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California
But girl, don't they warn ya?
It pours, man, it pours

Remind me what ship are you sailing on?  Looks like you are having fun!

Helen, Thank you for thinking of me.  I’ve been at sea since 12/1.  I am hoping my house is still intact when I get home on 2/11. 🙀

Happy all is well for you guys.

Maybe I’ll see you and Marty in the terminal on Sunday.
Pat

Patti, I thought about you being up in the hills, if you were okay.  I’m so glad to hear from you that you didn’t sustain any damage.  Thank goodness, just a big mess all around.

Yup, when it rains, it pours.  I wonder about our friend, @Tree_skier and @taznremmy who are down in So. Cal.  I hope Dave, Sharron and Pat are okay.

We are Ok.  I'm feeling a little waterlogged though. Being from Vancouver you would think I should used to it but I think I'm getting soft. A little minor flooding through some intersection but otherwise all is well.  We lost power for 3 hours on Sunday.

I heard there were some landslides in the hills to the north of us.

I think it was worse closer to the coast.  I friend in Camarillo said he got hammered pretty good.

It just boggles my mind though how poorly everyone drives when it rains.  Folks in SoCal are the worst drivers, in the rain they get even worse.

7 days until we leave for Florida.  11 days until we get on Adventure of the Seas. 🙂

Good morning from Odyssey. This is our second sea day on our way to Aruba. We did a time change at 2AM to Atlantic time in order to be on local time tomorrow. Hopefully the time change will keep people in bed longer this morning. It didn't stop me though.😇

When I first met my cabin steward he asked if I wanted morning or evening service. This is my first sailing since the change to once a day. I told him morning and if he needs a place to start he can start with mine as he won't won't have to worry about bothering anyone as I'm out of the cabin by 5AM. He gave me an odd look and asked... Why?

I totally get that.  My home time zone is Atlantic time, so most of the time, ship time for us is an hour earlier and sometimes 2 hours earlier.  I come into work at 7am, and when on vacation, I don't change my sleep schedule very much, so it makes for some very early rising on ship.  I usually have 2 breakfasts when cruising 😉.

I can see how that would be awkward at the dinner table 😉  The waiters would constantly be coming to see what you want with that hand raised up in the air like that.

When I cruise I’m usually an early riser too. But I don’t think I could 5am, more like 6am. At least you will always see the sun rise. Good for you!

I wake up just in time to make the suite breakfast before it closes, I am willing to pay hundreds to avoid a very early flight.
Just heard Toby Keith just past away from cancer at 62, I am not a huge country fan but loved his music , he has a bar inside a casino a hour away in Oklahoma where he was born.

Good morning from Labadee.

Woke up late. Had breakfast at Johnny Rockets. Sitting on deck enjoying the cool breezes and contemplating peace.

Do I want to get off the ship? Maybe later maybe not. 🤔

For me no visit to Labadee is complete without a walk through the gauntlet, I mean Straw Market, where everyone is selling stuff made from hand by their grandmothers. Of course they don't mention that most of those grandmothers live in China. My tolerance for the activity is inversely proportional to the temperature of the day. Sometimes the Haitian heat makes this Northern Boy a bit cranky.

How fortunate you are to enjoy the suite lifestyle.

The news about Toby Keith had not made it to me yet. Sorry to hear that. I liked some of his songs. I don't like country music that has a lot of "twange" to it.

I thought last night’s Grammys was entertaining, really enjoyed new Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell singing “both sides now” , Tracy Chapman and Stevie Wonder singing tribute to one of my favorites Tony Bennett who we saw many times.

Tony Bennett was one of our favorites also, he sang or wedding song.  We saw him so many times from when he was young until he was older.  Always a great show.  After a Vegas show I ran through the casino to catch up to him for an autograph.  He was so gracious and obliging.

The CD just made some worthless announcement. I realized that one of the things about him that irritates me is he misuses the words "I" and "me". Ken, they each have their place and they are not interchangeable.

Our CD is Dennis (he was also on the Anthem). Not my favorite CD.
