We are Saturday.  I will try to post pictures.  That is not my wrong suit.  I get so busy looking around I forget to take them.

Best wishes for a fabulous cruise starting Saturday.

I can't decide what to do about the shingles vaccine. I'm 50, so I could take it now, but it doesn't last very long (5-10 years?), and there's no booster later. So do I take it now, and then find myself at risk again when I'm older and possibly in worse health? Or wait a few years so that I'm protected when I'm older? My doctor doesn't seem concerned either way when I've asked him.

Talking about parents who have passed away , my mother's story as a child is terrible sad.  Her farm worker father died when she was about five and the family with three under 5's lost their tied farm cottage. Her mother married again in haste to a wrong'un and sadly took her own life when mum was 9.  There was no social services or government help in the '30s. It was either the workhouse or farmed out to other relatives.  She was lucky she was taken in by an aunt but didn't see her siblings again until she was an adult.  At 14 she had to earn her own living.  But she never complained and was the sweetest most loving mum anyone could wish for.

At 48 she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.

She inspires me so much and I miss her every day.

This is her wedding day in 1955

Wow what a story.  Amazing what many of our ancestors have gone through in their lives and come out the other end great people.

I know when I started my book on our family tree, there were several things I found that I wish I could have asked my parents, or that Susan could have asked hers.  It seems that no one in the family was aware of certain things.  One, was that my one grandfather had a marriage prior to my grandmother.  If my mother, or her sister knew, it was never shared.

Another was a prior marriage of Susan’s grandfather, and the son he had from that marriage.  And it seems like some things are closely held secrets, for what ever reason.  After discovering this, and asking one of Susan’s aunts, she was aware but never shared, even though she kept asking what I had found.

My self imposed timeline to finish my book has passed, but it is nearly finalized.  I have reached a point to where I am conflicted about what I should include about a few of the living relatives.  Since the book will be primarily for my kids and grandkids, do I include things about prior marriages and/or children of those relatives?  There are things that are not talked about, and my kids are probably not aware of them.

Thank goodness that neither Susan or I have any deep dark secrets about us.  At least that’s what she claims.

I have many old family photos, always surprised at the people that are missing from them.  It used to be to keep things secret and pretend they never happened.  With all the ancestry info out there now a quick search will bring it all out.

My daughter did some research recently and found my great grandfather was a pirate in the Bahamas with multiple wives, my great grandmother being the last.  Knew there was an interesting history but nobody talked about it and you didn't ask.

Pauline had shingles in her 50s and me in my 60s.

We spotted the rash quickly and got a viral medication within 2 days which helped enormously.

Liz was quite ridiculous with her outburst.  How does one even decide to go on this show when you have so many food allergies??

Venus is another story.....

This is true about the blindsides.  I would've liked to have the other person sent home, though.  I'm so done with that one.

Exactly. Way too much drama too. Venus is now flying under the radar. Watchout.

Agree. Q should have gone home. Two tribals ago.  But he is a player and he is blindsiding them all. He's an easy target as he sucks as physical challenges. But I do like it when those that believe they are running the show finally get blindsided. 🤣

Just read on another site that Harmony had to make an emergency medical stop in Cozumel to drop off Captain James.  The cruise is continuing on to Roatan with the staff captains in charge.  Hopefully he is okay.

There is a thread on a Harmony page with video.  The video is disturbing.  Several people onboard and ashore confirmed the emergency stop and an ambulance before the video was posted.

You can see in this photo.

Our conservatory is the first building and our Summer house around the corner.

They are both attached to our house.

We can access the conservatory from inside and outside but the summer house ( Garden room) is accessed from outside only.

You really have a lovely home and grounds. It know it will look even more beautiful when summer gets into full swing. I am a big fan of natural light as well and the summer house looks gorgeous.

That looks like a 68’ Absolute Navetta.  You can pick one up for around $3.3 million.

Here is one that shows some photos inside.

I'm in luck, I think this is the yacht and it's for sale, just up the coast from Southport, NC  in Wilmington, NC. about 30 miles from here.

....Lottery purchase should we hit the Power Ball or Mega Million....

Might be fate it has a Volvo 2000 hp engine, The Volvo Truck Plant where all the Mack trucks in North America are made in Virginia at Dublin, Va is about 10 miles from our house.

I'm gone for 2 days & I feel like I missed 2 months worth of postings. So while I scroll back a few pages, enjoy some pictures of the Absecon Light House in Atlantic City.

Walking up the boardwalk - The World Famous Atlantic City Boardwalk according to all the signs - with the Atlantic Ocean to my right and looking to my left, it looks like the lighthouse was seriously misplaced.  Weird to put a lighthouse in the middle of the city.😂

Just kidding. Pretty sure when it was built in 1857, there was nothing but sand around. Slightly better angle. After walking 10-15 minutes, the boardwalk curves to the left & parallels the inlet from the ocean to the bay. You can see the ramp from the street to the boardwalk with the inlet right behind me. Much closer to the water.

I scoured the internet for a whole 3 or 4 minutes trying to find an old picture of what it looked like before anything of the surrounding area built-up but couldn't find anything. But here is a stock picture I stole, er, downloaded showing how close it is to the water and not standing n the middle of a city as the first picture would indicate.

Pick me up on your way!

LOL, saw this a little too late. Sorry. However, Hard Rock Casino wasted no time sending me an offer for 2 more "free" nights so there will be a next time. Hopefully you and your husband will be there returning soon!

I know you are very happy this morning

Yes! Well, mixed emotions. Happy with the sweep but I had tickets to Game 5. But I just got my money refunded so that will more than offset the money I lost in AC

Don’t forget to take a wheelbarrow for your winnings

Actually, I rented a trailer. I like to think big. You gotta "think big to win big" 😁

In reality, all I needed was a Dixie up to bring home the spare change I had left.

When we first got it, I wasn't really in to it, and several months went by before I picked it up and began writing.  Once I did, I began to totally enjoy doing it.  The bound book arrived a day or two after we got home from Florida.

I did one also.  My mom did one a d we couldn’t believe some of the things that happened to her but she wa a child of the Depression.

Hi CC friends!  It has been a rough 10 days.  As some already know from that other site that shall remain nameless, I lost my dear father very unexpectedly on April 18th.  He was in good health up to the very end and would have been 88 this August.  I returned home today after a week down in North Carolina, where he lived, to help my sister take care of all the "things".  My sister moved down there from NJ last summer.  While I am still a little bit in shock that he is gone (my mother died in 2014), I am so thankful he was living life to the fullest up to the very end and we were all together the first weekend of April for a fun filled time.  My father had moved into a lovely independent living community in the fall of 2022 so he had downsized quite a bit which was very helpful this past week as were emptying his apartment.  I also urge everyone to have all their important papers organized in a file for your loved ones, should anything happen unexpectedly as did for us.  Even though we knew where all the "stuff" was he still had little post it notes all over his desk of passwords for his computer.  😃  We will be having a Celebration of Life in the summer down in NC for him.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I’ve already told Linda if it gets bad I will leave early and come home.

@Sea Dog

You're probably well on your way to Hilton Head by now so have a fabulous time but please don't cut your trip short.  There are a few different ways to handle a situation like this.  One way is to ignore the person, let them finish their "rant" and once they are done unloading their feelings and thoughts, resume having fun.  Hopefully it'll be a short rant and not an all-nighter.

Another way is to make a pact with the group about what topics are off-limits. If someone breaks the pact, the have to buy a round of drinks or make dinner or clean up the after dinner mess.

Lastly, if you have the patience, ask them why they think the way they do. And then just listen and not debate/argue the point. After all, neither one of you are going to convince the other to switch viewpoints. But sometimes understanding why a person thinks a certain way makes their "rants" much more.....tolerable, for lack of a better word.

Have fun .
