My dad is a proud member of the local Ulysses Motorcycle Club. He rides a Suzuki GS1100, with a sidecar engineered and built by he and his best friend. He calls it glamping now, he has just bought a car fridge that fits in the sidecar and has also just recently added a camp stretcher to his gear, as getting down on the ground into a swag was just getting too hard!

He is finding the longer rides a bit tough now, so sometimes takes his four wheel drive and caravan instead, but still manages one or two trips a year up to station country in northern South Australia.

Dad will be 91 next month.

Good on him, sounds like a legend, still riding those iron horses at 91.👍

One was in the Powerhouse.

Very vague memory of some being auctioned, but lots of Olympic stuff was sold off after the games.

As was much of the stuff from the 2006 Commonwealth Games. All the furniture from the athletes village was sold. We went along to a furniture place in Bay Road, Highett which was filled with all sorts of stuff from the village. We really didn't intend to buy anything, just went for a look but did buy a coffee table which quite useful.

Someting different, shot of the new and old Batemans Bay bridges. New one is supposed to be opened on Saturday by Premier Auntie Gladys B and our local State MP, Andrew Constance who is also the Minister for Transport. Hope the recent rains have not delayed the finish. Big public walkover too on Saturday.

There you Lyle, if you are on Princes Hwy, next Jan/Feb, you will get to drive on it, just stay left old son.

Oh  was hoping to see the top of the Bridge.  At least it is well above water.  Did you see the new Windsor Bridge, which the locals didn't want, went under?

Are you going to walk over on Saturday and/or attend opening.

As kids we walked over the Bribie Island bridge before it was opened.

4 lanes, such luxury.

The approaches from Kings Hwy with the new signallised roundabout and the southern approaches will really improve traffic flows Mic. You Canberra people will like it, no toll either.

Thanks Les, looks a lovely thing. You got way more for the money with that bridge, than we did with ours.

What are the plans for the old bridge? Retain or demolish? Is someone running a sausage sizzle when they allow walkers across?

Demolish. Apparently a Chinese company has bought it, maybe for scrap metal. It's a shame in a way. I don't know how many of that style of bridge are left in Australia.

For many years in Newcastle we had the two lane Tourle St bridge. It was a bottleneck for traffic going to and from Port Stephens. It was replaced with a new - wait for it - two lane bridge! There was an outcry over that from the motoring pubic. Very soon after that a second two lane bridge was built after the old one was demolished. What a waste of public money when TPTB  could have built a four lane in the first place.

Or even did like they did at Hexham and kept them both, one each direction,

Demolishing it in a couple of weeks, canot lift high enough, plus rust. Old bridge was built in 1954.  Yes Rotary is doing the bbq etc and shuttle buses taking the people to and from.

"The sky is falling!"🐥🐥

This week Aldi have Budweiser and Bud Light on special(?). $10.99 4 pack 473ml.

For balance they also have Steinhauser Lager $18.99 12 pack 330ml. I know what I would prefer.
