Put the Royal Australian Navy in there as a Fleet base and use the Garden Island RAN base as a cruise terminal.   They could put a Harry's at White Bay for the sailors.

As far as I can tell, there are only two ships (regularly based in Australia) capable of operating from White Elephant Bay - Pacific Explorer and MS Oosterdam.  Looking at Pacific Explorer's cruise schedule, I can see cruises departing from Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle - everywhere except Sydney.  Oosterdam is only based here for a few months of the year.

 

Time to shut this White Elephant down, once and for all.

 

** EDIT - Coral Princess is a no.  She's 62m tall, height under the Coathanger is 49m.

I agree, however before Sydney Ports cruise schedule was taken off the web, I did notice that Pacific Adventure had a few departures from there. Not sure how it would fit under the Harbour Bridge.

Some of the smaller luxury line ships dock at White Bay but they only stop there once or twice a year.

That’s a very good point gut.

By the time all this is over and the slump it the economy a lot of the smaller older ships won’t be viable and will go to scrap.

With that there’s going to be demand for larger births.

I was about to say it will be more the luxury line ships, that would be using White Bay.

I don’t know what the white bay site would be worth. Botany was estimated $750m.

 I sure there would  be money left over .

White Bay could be developed into a world class Fisherman’s Wharf area , with fishing boats landing their catch direct to the restaurants.

Because the visiting ships here, one day, will be the big cruise ships, 3000 plus pax.

White Bay for cruise ships was a quick fix for the NSW Govt. Awful looking place and as you say lack of public transport.

It’s supposed to have a passenger rail service ,there’s a existing dual fright line to the container terminal.

There’s talk of the eastern suburbs metro that goes from green square(airport area) to Bondi but that’s years away.

I don't imagine it would have been finalised.  Perhaps some deposit would have been paid.  I understand that Carnival were one of the biggest creditors of CMV along with Macquarie Bank.  

 

Pacific Dawn is interesting at the moment.  Each day she goes out for quite a run whereas the others just hang around the anchorage or move on to other places.  Aria is still there.  Looks as if Dawn is doing some sort of sea trials.  Pacific Princess is still tied up in Italy.

White Bay is a great terminal in a very poor location and the OPT is the opposite. I could foresee a long drawn out battle with the local NIMBY group if it ever were to be sold off for redevelopment and they probably would be harder to toss than the Botany Bay mob.The smaller high end cruise ships are ideal for WB but once again it’s location is a problem and I think, short term, with the possible COVID restrictions, the bigger ships will be preferred as they will take more passengers and will have larger open areas etc so the OPT will be the only option. Botany Bay is at least two years( seasons) away so WB will be around for at least that long.

Graham if white bay was gone ,do you think the small  high end ships Could overnight or to two or there at Barangaroo?  Right near the casino.
