Has anyone realised that the starting prices of £449 on Britannia and £779 on Iona are for Early Saver prices so if you want to pick your cabin location then you will have to pay extra for a Select price. So basically they are charging £150pppn and putting you in a cabin that suits them not you.

I think you'll find that your views are very much in the minority in the UK.

Well that may be since I am not expert on the UK. I do have a pretty good feel for the US state of mind and I am pretty sure I am closer to the truth here than not. So...a line like PO that is UK centric MAY be fine...the ones geared toward the US? This is not going to work...in my opinion of course.

Not sure I understand why it would be organised tours only, when the UK has totally opened up and there are no restrictions?

I agree. They should just let folk wander around Liverpool at night alone.

No, it's not going to work for a lot of us.  Sailing around English waters with no ports is not my idea of fun at all, but I think things will change come the autumn.

But Vaccruiser was talking about masks and social distancing, not port stops.

Wait...as an American I thought Liverpool was the jewel of the UK...say it ain't so!

As you haven't used any emojis, it's difficult to know whether you are being serious or sarcastic 🤔😄. Liverpool is a nice small City that is particularly interesting if you are into The Beatles. It has two Cathedrals, at least one interesting museum and a couple of good art galleries. The ships do currently dock right in the city centre. Not sure I would say it is the jewel in the crown however. Like many countries, we have many jewels in our UK crown - and a few that are only paste... 😊

But was that in a balcony cabin?

No, select outside, but at £72 pppn for a19 night Med cruise plus obc, I'm satisfied. It also costs £100 pp return Eavesway coach travel too. Add that to the price of a 3 day pootle around Britain and you can understand why I think I have the better deal. I booked at launch too so that helps😉

Fair enough....it was tongue in cheek as many of us Americans don't know anything about the UK other than Londo is the capital and the Beetles were from Liverpool. 😎  I like the UK...and have spent quite a bit of time in Glasgow Scotland...which has it's own charm...aside from the "Glasgow kiss" of course!

Whilst I also agree that the new cruises are expensive, I think that comparing the price of an inside cabin on a cruise booked some time ago, on a full ship, to a balcony cabin on a half full ship, is neither here nor there.

Agree and if anyone starts on seeking legal advice about kids forget it. Cruise lines can designate certain cruises as adults only and do

But why not come out and say that. The answers given is that it's open to all ages but realistically it's not.

My partner was from Glasgow and I met him when I was working there, so got to know the place well. Glasgow is a real city with personality and character, whereas Edinburgh is just impossibly pretty.

I would recommend that you not believe almost anything you hear in the US media these days that even remotely touches o politics...our current political environment in the US is truly poisoned...there is really very little "truth" that percolates up these days if it touches on politics.

Yeah...that's not jingoistic stereotyping at all...golf clap.

I have a close American friend who uses sarcasm, irony and a very dry sense of humour better than most Brits... and he doesn't even live in the UK.

In my younger days we had some epic pub crawls in Glasgow...usually ending at a kebab or fish and chips truck...ah to be young and bulletproof again.

Not inside wowzz, outside,  and I think we all have our own likes, dislikes and preferences.  We will just have to agree to disagree.

Bill Bryson springs to mind as well. He's also jolly good at moaning, just like us.:classic_rolleyes:

I hope so Jean, otherwise no cruising for me.

I'll be there with bells on! It sounds like they're taking all the precautions they can and are easing back into it all with caution. It's not going to be like a 'normal' cruise but then it might never be normal again.

I've worn masks, kept to social distancing and jumped at the chance of a vaccine. I suspect I'll have far less chance of coming into contact with someone unknowingly infected with Covid on board than going to the shops or into work or staying in hotels where they don't have the ability to screen people.

I have no problem with wearing a mask on board and social distancing. The reduced number of people will make for a nicer cruise. Plus a guaranteed balcony cabin - bliss! Yes, it's looking expensive, but all the short cruises are expensive pppn, especially as I do short cruises solo. I also rarely get off the ship on short cruises so it'll be nice to be at sea rather than in an industrial port. This is exactly what I need right now. So if you want me on Monday morning at 8:30 I'll be booking my cruise!

Probably because the ships they are using for the british waters cruises are advertised as 'Family Friendly' ships, so stating outright than they're only accepting adults could potentially open up a whole can of worms. Saying 'vaccinated passengers only' is safer I would assume.
